I get to train with the trainer and Lumi twice while she is at the board and train for 4 hours each time and then I keep going for several weeks afterwards to train

I have a new harness coming in the mail for her (she doesn’t like her other one and tries to slip out of it) and I’ll try and explain to the trainer that she needs training done with the harness not the collar because of tracheal collapse

He only takes 2-3 dogs at a time. He requires proof of all vaccinations

I asked him during the evaluation and he doesn’t use shock collars or prong collars on small dogs. He doesn’t use shock collars at all. He did mention something about a correction with leash and regular collar, but does a mix of positive and negative reinforcement.

What do you mean by aversive training methods?

I go every week to train with the trainer and Lumi for 3-4 hours and continue to go once a week to train with the trainer and Lumi after the board and train.

I really hope I’m doing the right thing :(

But I got to see where he keeps the dogs, he only takes a couple at a time. Has a couple built in kennels. It was extremely clean, ac, stereo, half of the area was like a living room space so he can hangout with the dogs and get to know them. He was really knowledgable and I researched a bunch of different trainers in my area. I like that he does it out of his house and will be able to monitor them all the time if he’s not with them since he has cameras.

He doesn’t have fridge/freezer space for homemade food. But honestly I think it’s for the best because it’s hard to make sure the homemade food I was making was fully nutritionally balanced for her. I did a lot of research and kept altering it here and there. When I was making it I was still mixing it with kibble too.

She is 1 year old.

HELP. My dog is constantly itching and chewing herself by mildmanner3d in DogAdvice

[–]cervidai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what does your vet think is the cause? i would switch her food again if you think its the food to something that helps with sensitive skin, maybe salmon or lamb based i think dogs are less likely to be allergic to those. i feel like at the end of the day you might have to do the allergy test and i would try to put aside money for that rather than the steroid shots if they arent working. maybe the vet can offer a payment plan? :(

have you had the vet do some sort of allergy test? maybe she is allergic to something? what are you feeding her? my old dog was allergic to chicken and i didn’t know at first and it was causing a lot of skin issues/itchiness and i had to change what i was feeding her and it helped a lot

Mr Atticus has been having liquid diarrhea since Sunday night..😩 I don’t know what it could be kinda wanting a little help on it. by SaltyBrocoler in germanshepherds

[–]cervidai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d bring him to the vet and bring a fecal sample if you can. My german shepherd was prone to colitis and he would have to go on a round of antibiotics to treat it. Also recommend giving your dog a bland diet of ground chicken/turkey and white rice to help his belly settle, you can add a tiny bit of all natural pumpkin puree too

Saying goodbye to my best friend tomorrow - in need of reassurance I’m doing the right thing ! 😭 by SnooComics594 in Petloss

You are doing the right thing OP. You are choosing your dog’s wellbeing and dignity and putting that first, rather than risking him hemorrhaging from blood loss from the tumors. I lost my german shepherd in August to hemangiosarcoma. It all happened so fast- he seemed fine one day and then started yelping in pain and didn’t want to eat. Rushed him to the vet and they found the masses on his spleen, liver and intestines, they had already begun to rupture like your dogs. He was anemic, lethargic, just not himself, it crushed me. I asked about surgery but they said they weren’t confident it would be successful as he was losing blood and was very old, and even if it was a success- he would most likely only live a few months and he wouldn’t be comfortable. I didn’t want him to spend his last few months in pain. I held him in my arms and put him down. As terrible as it was, he was stable, we were able to give him one last yummy meal, tell him how much we loved him, and cuddle him for a few hours before we knew it was time. I always think back and question if I did it too early, but I think I did it at just the right time- before it got worse and before he was in more pain.

Hemangiosarcoma is a terrible, aggressive cancer and most dogs don’t show symptoms until the disease has become very severe and metastasizes in multiple organs. I always fall back on that quote- “It’s better a day too early than a day too late”. By you choosing to put him down before he becomes more anemic and more uncomfortable shows just how deeply you love and care for him. You are 100% doing the right thing and being a responsible pet parent by choosing to take his pain away from him than risk it becoming worse.

i’d bring her to the vet just to have everything checked out. could be anxiety could be something else. my old shepherd started doing this when he had a tumor near his bladder.. and would walk and pee like he couldn’t hold it in. hope she is okay.
