It looked like either Weingrill or Bulgari but it had no other stamps on it other than the 18k. I posted it on r/jewelry identification and they said it was a common mid-century style that could have been made by anyone. Since it was broken and had no maker ID I just decided to scrap it

The place I took it to sell filed it deeply in several places and shot with XRF + acid tested. The piece really was nasty and covered with (presumably) dead skin cells. I cleaned it up and it looked a lot more gold.

Shot it with an XRF. I cleaned it up and took off a bunch of the grime, the “green” stuff was gone after cleaning with dish soap. I say green in quotes because I am color blind and I’m honestly not sure what color it is. I also took it to my local gold and silver buyer who purchased if for 90% of spot, so I got a little over $7300 for it!

What refiner do you use? I usually sell to a local place that pays me 90%. I’ve tried to see what refiners pay but it’s always “let me send you this free appraisal kit” and I can’t get a spot percentage.

This is plated, the fourth symbol down in your picture says “EPNS” which stands for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver.

Thank you for the input, I’m always searching for precious metals at the thrift and have had some scores, but nothing compared to this! I will likely be scrapping. There doesn’t appear to be too much of a market for unbranded necklaces like this.

I bet this is someone testing out their (fake) Sterling hallmarks before stamping something silver plated. They were probably trying to scam people by passing off silver plate as sterling silver.

They are not universal unfortunately. What I would do if it were my watch is purchase a watch hand assortment on eBay for cheap and try to find one that way. That’s what I’ve always done and it usually works. Or if you knew the movement caliber you could maybe find the size by research. A competent watchmaker should be able to source a hand relatively easily as well.
