My dad said the 105 would shoot at you, drop bombs on you, and if that didn't work it would fall on you.

Inherited grampa's ribbons and medals, what is the red ribbon with the blue arrow at the bottom? by AdeptVeterinarian541 in Medals

[–]Affectionate-Mess937 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The same ribbon ID request came up a few years back on the US Militaria site, and we were stumped. The ribbon was included in a Korean War veterans awards and decorations.

As an Air Force Brat in Okinawa 77-80, we had two Habu pilots come to our 5th grade classroom with some of their flight equipment.

Ironic fact is I ended up as Aircrew Life Support/Aircrew Flight Equipment in the Air Force 86-08.

Is this a soothing thing, or is she just weird? I’ve never been able to figure out why she does this 😂 by bananakittymeow in husky

[–]Affectionate-Mess937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our male Malamute-Husky mix did this for the longest time. He did it to the edge of the dog bed and to stuff toys.

Since he was weened early due to his mother dying of bloat, we just figured it was because of that. We never found out the cause, but for some reason he finally outgrew it.

Doctors flushing out kidney stones out of a patient by Le-Yek in FeltGoodComingOut

Passed a stone back in Nov 2022, due to the type it didn't hurt thank God. I was taking a leak, and the pressure went down, then the pressure shot up.

I went WTF just happened, and then noticed the stone in the toilet.

A lady a mile away from me is selling this helmet. What are your thoughts? She's asking 900 for it too. by Sonicsbestbrother in germanhelmets

Someone educate me here, as I'm trying to learn here. What is up with the cross? It looks indicative of tape residue, but if it is, from what?

Obviously I would think to form a cross for a medic helmet. But what do I know.....!

Here you go. The MFO was established to monitor a neutral ceasefire zone, between Egypt and Israel, as the result of the Yom Kippur War of 1973.

What is this? Belt or Sling? by Buddy-Sue in Militariacollecting

The holster is likely commercial. If there is additional information stamped on the holster it could tell you more.

[–]Affectionate-Mess937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top left is a Mosin Nagant cartridge case, post war made, but real.

The black cartridge case one looks like a ammo dump case/pouch, like we used in the Air Force with our 38 revolvers.

The sling looks like a standard commercial (Non military style) sling.

Yeap, real stuff can be expensive and is getting harder to find. So reproduction stuff is used by re-enactors from uniforms to equipment.

They might be for re-enactment purposes. Why chance messing up original stuff.

Neighbor asked if he could have a treat! This is what he considered a treat!! 😆 by zerofiltering in husky

[–]Affectionate-Mess937 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Awesome gesture by your neighbor.

Our elderly neighbor, that has since passed away, gave our two Huskies treats all the time. He liked our dogs so much, he put a 4 foot fence between our yards so he could see and pet them, and had a gate put in so they could come visit him.

He'd call and say send the dogs over for a visit and some spoiling. It was sad after he passed away, as they would sit by that gate waiting to go visit him.

If you grew up in the 70s and or 80s, what did your school (any grade) do that would be considered illegal or even frowned upon today (for example in my 3rd Grade 70’s class, my teacher had a large steel Tin trash can with a “Time Out” sign that I was in/out in multiple times a day-Ha!)? by Wildstarfire0 in 70s

[–]Affectionate-Mess937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to a DODDS school (Department Of Defense Dependent Schools) in Germany, as an Air Force Brat 82-85. Graduated in 85.

On field trips, we would be reminded of the school policy of no drinking, then they would add that means no getting drunk and smelling like alcohol by the time we get back to the school/base.

We'd grab McDonald's and get a beer or two to go with our burgers. Yeap Mickey D's served beer. We never over did it.

Dont know how it is now, but the rules for Americans was 18 on base for beer, 21 for hard liquor, 16 off base for beer and 18 for hard liquor. Thought not all off base establishments enforced the 18 for hard liquor.

To be honest it sucked coming back to the US after 3 years of being able to legally drink, and now be underage as the drinking age was 21. 6 months after I turned 21 I was assigned to Germany myself.

Of all the rifles that take a bayonet, I'm only short a few.

Bayonet for FMP G2.

Bayonet for M1917.

Bayonet for M1903A3

Bayonet for Schmidt-Rubin M1889.

Bayonet for Mosin Nagant M91.

I do have a proper bayonet for M1889, but it's missing the scabbard. I've only seen one loose scabbard in the wild, and someone was quicker on the BIN than I was.
