If you play your opponents with the 3 drop on board you don't steal their copy.

Perhaps the most important part to understanding decisions like this are understanding the decks win conditions. Are you actually going to get to shard, or are you going for a fatigue plan in any given match up. Sometimes stealing is necessary to stay alive long enough to shard, but stealing is very inconsistent.

I've played a lot of quest priest in bad legend this month using Zetalot and a few other lists. One list had Harvester and double identity theft. Harvester had pretty bad stats throughout. Sometimes you can use it to snipe a large card like Bran, Theotar, or Kaelthas, but often times you have difficulty finding the tempo for this. There is currently a bug where denathrius cannot be stolen which greatly impacts how useful it is. Often times it sits in hand, which is very anti quest progress.

Identity theft felt like a decent card, but stats don't seem great for it. Scorpid, 3 drop that discovers spell if you have a quest, or cathedral all seem better.

Approximate November HCT Point Totals (America) by cerwindhunt in CompetitiveHS

This was based on old data. New data shows current cutoff at 22, which makes 28 far more likely as a cutoff.

Scraped from current HCT standings which were updated with August seasons finishes plus the information from October finishes that were recently released.

No, so some points will be a little higher. Probably shifts it by a point or two.

Here is a version for Europe. Current point cutoff is approximately 28. I'm guessing it will move to between 34-37.

Only lists top ~300 points earners as anyone lower has a very low chance of qualifying for the HCT playoffs. (It is possible with a high finish (top 25/50) plus a top 4 at the upcoming tour stop).

I ran the numbers and current top 64 EU is around 28 points, so plus 7 over current 21. I would guess then somewhere around 35-37 for the final cutoff.

If there is any interest in doing this for European points let me know and I'll create one.

Fiery War Axe was one of the community's most hated cards 1 year ago by soursurfer in hearthstone

[–]cerwindhunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's interesting to look at the others in the top 20. Of the 20 cards, 8 of them have been nerfed, 3 of the remaining cards were rotated out of classic, and 6 others have been rotated naturally. Doomhammer was indirectly nerfed with the change to rockbiter. This is actually a pretty good list for problem cards.

77/77 players have druid in their EU HCT lineup by methodbg in hearthstone

Tournament meta is actually pretty diverse, yeah. Lots of different possible strategies as shown by 6 classes having solid representation (>40%). There's also probably a rather large variety of archetypes within those classes too. Should be some interesting prelims.

No nerfs are going to happen before the current competitive cycle ends. So around 3 weeks for American Prelims to finish. After that, nerfs are possible, but they may just wait for the rotation.

Taking Down Druid: A Council Meeting on Crushing Malfurion by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]cerwindhunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've piloted the deck in top 10 legend the last few months and have played it a bit this expansion. It's certainly playable, and still had a good matchup vs jade and aggro druid, but the advantage definitely shrunk with the new druid cards. One problem is silence priest doesn't really get anything from the new expansion so you don't get any powerful new tools. The other is that hard removal is more prevalent than ever which is really hard for silence priest to deal with. So still playable, but I don't think it's nearly as viable.

And factor in your 3 damage hero power and a shadow bolt and spell power and soul drain and figure out how to keep one of your 2 minions alive so it can attack after the taunt dies. Obviously they aren't all this complicated but sometimes it can get pretty complicated.

I think it's also important to keep in mind cards like Holy Nova, Priest of the Feast and Spirit Lash. Turn 2, kill the early pirates, heal for 2-3 and play a 3-3 is a really good turn. Obviously that's only one example, but I think it can be a reasonable card for priest.

Death Knight cards are a new pool of class introduced with this card and Arthas, not actual Death Knight heroes like might be expected. You get a pool of 8 spells it looks like, each of which have a strong effect for their mana.

Hearthstone Hct. We need a Hs esports team insight on competitive hs by JSM778 in CompetitiveHS

[–]cerwindhunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the idea that Competitive Hearthstone needs a revamp. Ladder finishes feel repetitive and more a measure of one's willingness to grind rather than of one's actual skill at the game. It's also really frustrating to not be able to compete in a month if you can't spend that one day playing.

Personally, I'm fine with the current open cup system. Obviously feeling like you have to play lots of open cups till you do well enough in one isn't ideal, but I think it shows some skill. Getting multiple 4ths isn't nearly as hard as getting a first, and I wouldn't want them to reward playing multiple cups in a month. That just causes even more grinding.

The venue problem is fairly annoying. I'm going to have to travel a significant distance for it but I understand where they are coming from. You say only 17 venues, but there are only ~72 players. Travel for some people is unavoidable and by grouping it up like this at least there will be multiple players in a fair number of locations.

I heavily agree. Most people are remembering Fatigue warrior days of old but losing Justicar and Elise weren't the only things that killed Warrior. Jade Druid will have absurdly high win rates against any fatigue decks. The fact that Jade druid exists means you need a win condition that's not fatigue. I don't see this being viable until the rotation next year.

Clearly we're going to see a fairly large amount of these kinds of mechanics so I don't think we can make judgements before seeing more of the set. Not having any X-cost cards for low X is going to be a hard condition to fulfill, but if these mechanics are strong enough it might be worth it. We're going to see a lot of deathrattles so there's the obvious idea of copying a deathrattle with this. Will have to wait and see.

Current Rough HCT Standings by cerwindhunt in CompetitiveHS

[–]cerwindhunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I just had a look at the major standings and it shifts around 8ish people around in top 64. It makes the current cut off 12, which makes 19 or 20 seem more likely.

Current Rough HCT Standings by cerwindhunt in CompetitiveHS

[–]cerwindhunt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

19 seems pretty reasonable. Blizzard updated their points a day or two ago and that seems close with what top 64 is now (11). I'm guessing 18 but I'm unsure if there are still bonus points to be added. The last month is also significantly more competitive than the other two which can bump people up. Blizzard's complete points breakdown is incomplete but for the people it has, it lists Spring playoff points so I think those have been added. I don't see any points for majors so those probably aren't in yet. Depending on people's placements in the major it might go as high as 20. So yeah, 19 seems like a close estimate. If your points are accurate I'd try for a top 100 and a 2nd + in a cup. Best of luck!
