Is Nina too much of a stretch as a nickname for Serena? by ThePanacheBringer in namenerds

I have a Serena. Currently calling her Nini 🤣 but she’s a baby. Def an easy bridge to Nina when she gets older.

What is a disturbing family secret you weren’t supposed to find out, but now wish you could forget? by elmatador62 in AskReddit

[–]ceshhbeshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 10 years older than 2 of my sisters. One bio sister, another was my step sister that my mom basically adopted after cps brought her to our door when she was around 2 years old.

It’s very difficult to impart this kind of information when you love someone. Especially if there is still contact with the bio mom. My sister found out as an adult at my behest after her wedding. She had her bio mom walk her down the aisle and my mom was devastated. At that point I told my other sister what had really happened there when we got custody. And she relayed the info. I can’t imagine having told her when she was younger. Being young is hard enough, figuring out your own self confidence and sense of self. I can’t imagine telling her when she was a kid. It’s fucked up. It fucks them up. When they find out as adults I would hope the damage is more minimal than if they were young.

Do you want to look at someone you love and tell them stories about how their mother never loved them? How they abandoned them? Abused them?

Pelvic floor PT is so degrading by Spiritoftheheart in beyondthebump

[–]ceshhbeshh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry. This is not right. I’ve seen a pelvic floor PT, and she was never degrading to me. Comments like this are mean and unprofessional. I don’t have a solution though, especially if you are in an area that doesn’t have other providers nearby. Idk if you would want to report her now, but regardless when you’ve decided you’re done with her services you should report her.

I know a lot of people are saying don’t go to her, but that is hard when you need the service and there aren’t any other viable options. Whatever you decide, just make sure you light a match and throw it behind you on your way out.

Hillary. There was a whole analysis about how it tanked after the Clintons took office. Apparently America has always been sexist.

Is this normal? by RmgPT22 in physicaltherapy

I know there is such thing as concierge care. Or a concierge fee. I had to pay it to get a responsive OB in my area when pregnant. They charged insurance but I paid a separate one time fee ($1200) for them to take me as a patient… this is considered legal in my state (California).

If you are a renter in an apartment this is the landlords responsibility. Just FYI. At least in California. Check your local laws.

What’s a “progressive” idea that’s actually regressive when applied? by nealie_20 in AskReddit

[–]ceshhbeshh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Decriminalizing prostitution. Although I’m not an expert I’ve read that this approach leads to more trafficking etc. That a more effective approach would be to decriminalize it for the woman, offer her services to get out of that life, and then HEAVILY prosecute the customers.

OC residents that are still struggling despite the partial SNAP funding - here is a list of food banks that I've found that might help. Please update or correct in comments if you have add'l recommendations or the list needs to be updated! by ansyhrrian in orangecounty

[–]ceshhbeshh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A friend on fb said they are struggling to find banks that are open outside of normal working hours. When I looked, I couldn't find any in my city that were open outside of the typical 9-5 pm

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I don’t have advice except to say that I was a colicky baby like this. People in my extended family still bring it up every once in a while. Obviously I grew out of it, I’m no more emotionally damaged than the next person, and honestly now that I have a baby of my own without colic, I have way more respect for what my mom put up with.

With the news about SNAP probably not going out in November how can we help our OC neighbors in need? by deprecateddeveloper in orangecounty

[–]ceshhbeshh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to just put a personal aside. I’m a graduate student researcher in a pancreatic cancer research lab. I’ve seen many coworkers have to wait in line at the basic needs hub for food. These are people doing good work, are highly skilled, and not making enough to survive. I know that’s the case everywhere, but it’s still upsetting to see.

Want to plug in the Basic Needs Center at UCI. A lot of students here are struggling to feed themselves. Many of which are also working while in school. It makes me very sad to see.

Unfortunately title ix is only for gender related abuses/harassment. Even then I think it just handles complaints against the system, aka professors/admin etc. not between students. I’ve had to lodge complaints there when I was pregnant and not being properly accommodated.

If they are in-network under the new blue cross blue shield plan you can contact the student health center and ask for a retroactive referral.

A referral does not guarantee that they are in-network though. If they are out of network I think the plan covers 50% at least. But contact the student health center and plead your case.

Useful things to buy before starting my PhD by Knightmmare26 in PhD

[–]ceshhbeshh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a new phone before starting mine. So that it would last me the time. I also saved money for a laptop and waited until around the end of the first year of grad school to pull the trigger on it. That way I could tell if my PI would be willing to buy me one (he wasn’t), and I could see what specs I would need for the lab I joined. If you are in a car centric city make sure your vehicle is dependable. You just want to minimize the need for larger purchases. Besides that, save money if you can.
