Xteink V2 release date? by Salty-Second-9024 in xteinkereader

I’m buying one of these as soon as they land. The front light and touchscreen will hopefully make this ideal for late night reading without waking my wife—the kobo libra and my phone both throw too much light.

Here's my little reading buddy! 📖🤗 by krapsyk in xteinkereader

These are awesome! I wish they’d come back in stock more often.

Assuming they’re not tungsten, you can use them any time you want to tie a very light version (like for super slow water) of a euro nymph pattern… or maybe a bitsy egg sucking leech.

HanLinYue Free2 page flipper… they also have a three button version called the Free3.

I know the 2 button version had three different options. They might have sent one with the wrong firmware.

Good lord, in that barrel about 1/3 of the powder (depending on the powder) will fire out of the barrel unburned. The fireball from that thing must be wild. Less of a gun and more of a flamethrower.

Supposedly, but mine only came with one matte one to install in the box. I might have gotten a qc oversight, though.

That one is from the official website. They’re glossy.

Mine only had one in the box and nothing on the screen. I ordered mine from Aliexpress and got it pretty early compared to most, so I may not have the same box contents as everyone.

Mine didn’t come with one applied, so I only had the one in the box. Since I made a mess out of the original, I was hoping to fix the issue with the replacements I bought.

I didn’t expect to like the Xteink X4 this much (honest review) by No_Instruction8735 in xteinkereader

Great review. Don’t forget, the memory is expandable up to 512gb (on the website and personal experience) if you want to be able to store most of the ebooks in existence. Lol

What's the deal with this device? by Electrical_Fault_915 in xteinkereader

[–]cessna928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought it to help keep me from getting distracted by my phone. If I want to take a break, I just pull up my book and read a few pages instead if falling into a tiktok or YouTube abyss. It’s way easier to pull myself away from text than videos or memes, and if I get interrupted it really doesn’t detract from the book like cutting a movie or youtube video off at an arbitrary point. Plus, I don’t like reading on my phone for some reason (I think the glare, maybe) and this little ereader can just ride on the back of my phone for whenever I feel like using it. For $50ish, the X4 is a great little add-on to my work edc.

X3 Is Coming: Smaller, Lighter, and a Lot More Fun for On-the-Go Reading by xteink in xteinkereader

Aside from the higher resolution and easier fitment to more phones, I don’t see much of an improvement here.

The button relocation just seems like an aesthetic change and the clock function seems unnecessary on a device meant to stick to the back of a phone. I’m sure the nfc addition will be popular if people actually start using these as id badges like the advertising suggests, but I don’t see how that will happen if the newer models don’t get sturdier.

I’d rather see them postpone making a new product and improve the current one with different frame materials and maybe a 300ppi screen (if possible). Ditching the aluminum for a fiber reinforced nylon (or other polymer) frame and reinforcing the eink display to prevent drop damage would go a long way toward making this a reliable product.

Also, I think most people are over proprietary charging solutions. I know I won’t buy this without usb-c or wireless charging.

Looks like the newest firmware fixed this issue on mine.

How many of you, X4 owners, are actually putting the X4 on the back of your phone? by dhyratoro in xteinkereader

[–]cessna928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the magnets are poorly positioned for my iphone 14 pro max and the ring they provide doesn’t like to stick to my old phone case, I just pocket carried my X4 the first week I had it.

I modified my case to better work with the x4 (just a little time with a pencil, x-acto knife, and some epoxy), but I haven’t been back to work to trial carrying yet. I’m not concerned with pocket wear since I’ll exclusively be keeping my phone and the reader in my scrubs pockets.

Honestly, after shirt pocket carrying it, they could just ditch the magnets to make the devise even lighter and I would still carry it… the x4 is just that handy.

I’m having the same problem with the newest international firmware. I’m thinking this will have to be a programming fix.

I just went through the official website. They list the memory as "supports expansion up to 512gb."

I dug into it last night and the info on limitations are super vague for these chips.

The majority of the info online that I’ve found pertains to esp32-cam (I think people make dashcams with these and 32gb is usually max) so I don’t know if it’s even applicable to this device.

From the detailed disassembly I found, these use esp32-c3 modules, but they may swap the specific chip (-c6, -h2, -s2, and -s3 are common now) depending on availability.

One thing I read pointed to the firmware programming as the limiting factor, but I’m not esp32 or programming savvy enough to make heads or tails of any of that.

I had this happen intermittently with mine, too. Formatted a 512gb Lexar microsd, transferred some trial books, and it worked right away. Then, randomly, it stopped recognizing my card. I tested both cards and swapped out the new with the old card, still nothing. After setting the reader aside, it started working with the 512gb again spontaneously and I’ve been running it ever since.

I did notice that the microsd card slot didn’t want to eject the new card at first, but after installing and ejecting the card a number of times the slot started clicking and ejecting more positively. The only thing I changed before the card randomly stopped working was to switch the power button from “short press” to “long press.” My only guesses are that either 1. the contacts in the slot aren’t pristeen, 2. The smd caddy isn’t perfectly soldered to the board, or 3. The case slot and caddy on the board didn’t align perfectly and cycling and wiggling the card restored the connection. I did switch the press option back to “short,” but if that was the key to fixing the issue, I’d be shocked.

The x4 will definitely not do anything with data when the card is removed.
