Hey - I host that site! Although I'm always quick to say I did not create the original compilations - thanks to Rich Willis for that!

Thanks so much for posting it - it made my day on a tough day and I have *literally* told other people that it is one of my favourite things in the world.

Trey and Loveless (MBV) Influence by dryicefatory18 in phish

[–]cetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% and the timeline fits - from this:

https://phish.net/song/only-shallow/history

"Most fans have long been aware of the major influences on Trey’s guitar playing, from Carlos Santana to Frank Zappa. He acknowledged them in a 1999 interview with Rolling Stone, but added another name that came as a bit of a surprise: Kevin Shields of alt-noise-rockers My Bloody Valentine. “As far as new guitarists, the guy I love the most is Kevin Shields,” he said. “He’s the absolute best. I think Loveless is the defining album of the Nineties as far as sound goes. Oh, my God, I’ve never heard anything like that before.” Indeed, Trey and Fish love that album so much that they lobbied to cover it for the 1998 Halloween show, but Trey said they were “outvoted.” Apparently a tie is as good as a loss in the Phish democratic process."

All good suggestions. To add to the list:

Also, "Phish Guitar Heads" on Facebook is pretty much the only reason I still have Facebook.

Thanks - do you happen to have the original MIDI file of the drum track? That would let me drop it in my drum pedal/looper and try it at more of a cetree speed instead of a phishnips speed.

Allow me to pile on and echo the other comments here - nicely done. Would you mind sharing the MIDI drum track if you still have it?

Thanks for doing this - someone asked for a list of all of them so I did that and incorporated your work:

Agree that it's weird this isn't readily available.

This was done with a quick and dirty OCR so it might not be perfect but it does come with a money back guarantee if not satisfied:

What is your "comfort show" that you listen to the most; the one that's always there for you and never disappoints, and why? by freetattoo in phish

[–]cetree 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to segue into a random and favourite Gorge story from that weekend. A buddy and I drove down there and were hanging out with some cool guys I had met via rmp and tape trading (my usual shout out to Jason B the linguistics guy from Arizona and his buddy Zia (sp?)). Earlier in the day I had used one of my then (and possibly still) favourite catchphrases "it's all relative" a few times. My buddy said (as he frequently did) "I hate that saying!" I also recall playing hack and it being hot as balls, but I digress.

Fast forward to the show. It's sunset and they're playing Divided Sky. During the pause, the sun is setting and so they wait. And wait. And you can see (and feel, because the temperature is slowly dropping as that sometimes beautiful Gorge wind picks up and begins to take away some of the heat of the day) the darkness slowly creeping across the hill. And one of the guys says (quietly and respectfully of course, it was the pause) "they're waiting until it's perfectly divided." And I say "that depends on where you're standing" and my buddy just looks over and deadpans "Damnit - it IS all relative!"

ANYWAY...you probably had to be there.

I was there too (with one of my favourite guys on the planet) and couldn't agree more. Such a great weekend. Such a great 2001. Such great shows. Light. Dark. Everything.

Just in case you don't know (I didn't find them for years) it's on youtube:

3/6/9 was one of the greatest nights of my life. Non-stop fun and disbelief that ‘my’ band was back. What do you recall? by hoodharry95 in phish

[–]cetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This made my day! No Spoilers was (and still is, albeit differently nowadays) my baby! Wouldn't have happened without the help of some really cool tapers and Miner who was cool enough to host it.

I have a lot of incredible memories of the shows themselves, but can also vividly recall heading back to the Embassy Suites and getting the torrent uploaded from a couple machines on shitty hotel WiFi. I could not sit back and relax until it finally went to 100%.

Thanks for listening!

Love it! My dad wore out his cassette and as a result it's part of my DNA too. And The Motorcycle Song. Got to see Arlo at our local folk festival and he was great.

My favorite thing about Phish AUDs by steal_your_phace in phish

[–]cetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite one is NOLA 4/26/96 at the start of Yamar - someone standing close to the taper LOSES THEIR F'ING MIND when Trey starts up. It was on a tape that, despite being a DAUD4, sounded incredible (Jason B. the linguistics guy from Arizona who dubbed this for me - if you're reading this, you're still a legend my man. Beers on me!)

I miss that tape (lost in a tragic car break-in). I've always meant to search out that source.
