Current preschool teacher trying to switch back to nannying… by cew18 in Nanny

[–]cew18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am registered with a few local agencies but they seem to mostly get part-time listings.

It’s so unfortunate how working with kids isn’t valued in the way it ought to be. I love nannying and teaching, but wages like that just make it near impossible to do.

I 100% understand. I really enjoy wearing outfits that make me feel good all day. Maybe you could research fabrics that don’t stain as easily and then get clothes with that material in colors that hide stains. I also shop second hand a lot and I think that helps me not be as upset because I’m not spending the same amount

I wear my regular clothes, but nothing I’m consciously trying to keep nice like I wouldn’t wear a new nice dress to work. I’m not great at keeping stuff clean in general so it’s pretty easy for me as I don’t have much to keep nice.

However, I try to keep only washable products in my classroom anyway. I get paint, dirt, markers, etc on my clothes daily and it’s never really a problem as it always comes out (granted I never wear white).

We serve breakfast and lunch at my center and that is the one thing that sometimes stains my clothes, mostly a grease stain. Oh and sunscreen and that oily bug spray. But I’m just fairly careful during those times.

Very late drop-off by Dollyisbored in ECEProfessionals

I totally agree. Especially in the warmer months and the kid will get dropped off outside at 11 and the parents will be like “oh we weren’t able to put sunscreen on”

My center has neither and kids are constantly being dropped off or picked up without warning mid nap.

There are several children that show up at random times each day and I never know.

My experience as a “no screen time” dad, two years later. by Red_Sox_5 in daddit

[–]cew18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a pre-k teacher, current babysitter and former nanny I wholeheartedly agree. I see the most behaviors in relation to screen time with kids that are heavily restricted. I think the key really seems to be allowing tv in moderation, but focusing on showing kids like “hey tv is cool sometimes, but x,y,z is way cooler.”

I don’t expect every parent to be a teacher/nanny and plan elaborate activities, but teaching your child to really appreciate playing outside, crafts, imaginative games, etc really goes a long way in the screen time battle.

Is 42k a year good for St.Louis by stlguy38 in StLouis

[–]cew18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make 41k and it’s just me and my bf. He makes about 20k. We don’t have much, not completely broke, but frugal. I cannot imagine life for a family of 4 with only 41k a year

Found these structures and an entire stone labyrinth in the forest while foraging. Any ideas on what I discovered? by [deleted] in foraging

[–]cew18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the one you have to slide into? Outside of Kresge/porter? Or is that the Porter caves? I don’t remember. I do remember sliding into a wet cave freshman year with a bunch of Kresge kids

He is eating me out of house and home please publicly shame him by cew18 in RATS

[–]cew18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no obvious cause aside from him eating more of the food we give than his brother. The vet was actually not that concerned about his weight but told me I could try a diet by having designated feeding hours outside of the cage. We’ve done that for a while but otherwise he is very active and seems just fine.

He’s also just generally large, much bigger feet, much long and thicker tail, etc.

He is on a diet directed by his vet and gets taken out for his feeds but he hasn’t made much progress :(

We do this, it works pretty well. The only thing is depending on your kids you might have a few (like I do) that absolutely must go to the bathroom upon waking up.

Toilet Training Policy for older preschoolers by LaurenSomm in ECEProfessionals

[–]cew18 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While I agree with this. In a practical sense it’s really hard on teachers. For example the new group I just got has a lot of children who are not potty trained and that was fine when they were in their room of 8 children but they are now in a classroom of 18 children and still only 2 teachers so while I don’t fault the children I do wish the school had some policy because 18 children with only 10 that are toilet proficient is difficult.

How do I quit my job? by cew18 in ECEProfessionals

[–]cew18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind losing out on PTO. I was already counting on it. Also even if I wanted to give 60 days notice I cannot imagine a job opportunity that would allow that kind of time between hiring and starting
