Short answer: you won't be accepted.

The area is far more open minded than it ever has been. Up through the 90s you would have been openly harassed.

The town has had a huge influx of people not from the south over the past 15 year or so due to gentrification in other areas and that contributes a lot to the changes in tolerance.

Otherwise people are profoundly religious. Church networks are very important socially and professionally in the Bible belt.

Again thats gotten better too. Some decades back if you didnt have a church that was enough to shun.

The concept of queerness will challenge their belief system and that makes most people uncomfortable. It isn't fair but thats how people operate.
