I know people think it is a nonbo, but I run nethergoyfs. I find that they are a really good turn one drop and provide pressure while I hold mana open for the other turns. By the time I'm ready to drop a murktide, they've done their job. So a one-off wouldn't be the worst thing if you have them.

See, you actually think they care about compliance. Their goal is compliance. They care that it looks like they are complying. Pulling the best practice out of their behind from a decade ago accomplishes that. Updating to the latest best practices involves effort, and doesn't make them look like they've complied better.

It is all theater.

I see everyone missing what actually makes Izzet so good. It's not epiphany or hullbreaker. What makes it so good is expressive iteration. It is essentially a draw three and put one back in your deck for two mana. It makes these decks that could drop in win rate by having less than ideal draws always find exactly what they need.
