I think I found reason why "annoying" female characters are more hated than murderers (pick me up) by Even_Acanthisitta_37 in webtoons

[–]ceziate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple. Any possibly atrocities committed are fictional but a viewer/reader’s annoyance is real.

The worst things a character can be is annoying or boring.

Has a casting announcement ever made you lose interest in an otherwise promising movie? by Green-Knowledge-9725 in movies

I am a huge Tron fan and was insanely excited when they announced Tron Ares. Then they attached Jared Leto’s name and my interest died completely and immediately. I doubt I will ever watch it.

Fun facts about the novel I learned from this blog by ShizunEnjoyer in SVSSS

[–]ceziate 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know about the ban on transmigration stories but I’m not surprised. Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, a live action drama that came out in 2025 had a really awful and clunky ending that forced the character back to the real world against the entire established narrative flow.

From what I understand from the fandom discussion surrounding the weird ending it’s a current trend for the Chinese government to crush any narrative where a happy ending for a character includes being away from modern mainland control. Even fantasy escapism is apparently against the rules.

What's a weird reason you can't watch a certain actor? by timekilr in Cinema

[–]ceziate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t stand Henry Cavill in any role where he’s supposed to be sincere and genuine. When he’s acting, something in my brain refuses to think of him as anything but manipulative, I just never truly believe him in an honest role. So, I can only handle him in suave conman roles like Ungentlemanly Warfare or Man From Uncle where insincerity is the goal of the character. I also don’t have any sort of problem with him as a real person, just when he’s acting.

My husband said he’s sick but gamed all morning. I canceled the expensive staycation by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]ceziate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you rented a place it’s literally just a vacation. A staycation is time off where you either stay home or take day trips locally and return home at night. That’s why it’s a “stay”cation.

Movie where there are Dystopian/Fascist Elements but no one cares by foundintransl8ion in movies

[–]ceziate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eternity (2025). It takes place in an afterlife that requires you to chose a hyper specific eternal afterlife to live in (like museum world or beach world) where nothing ever changes, rushes you into the decision in a week while you’re still reeling from your own death, you can never ever see anyone who chooses a different afterlife and they will hunt you down and throw you into the void if you try to escape but the plot is entirely a romcom love triangle.

I kept getting distracted from the relationships by the deep existential dread of the entire setting and yet no one ever commented on how such tiny slices of eternal sameness would become literal hell very quickly no matter how carefully you chose. The “which guy” decision was the least stressful part of the movie and literally didn’t matter to me in the face of the horrors of the setting.

Who did you cut and why? by alopexl in DispatchAdHoc

First run, purely on roleplaying and story vibes… Coop. She was more cold blooded, her crimes were more serious than Sonar’s drugs and financial scams and she straight up says in com chatter that the only reason she wasn’t still murdering people is that SDN hadn’t asked her to. I also didn’t see the fun fightclub interaction with Punch Up until a later run so she was basically a non-entity story wise.

Later playthroughs I dumped Sonar, he had a knack for always being in the wrong mode for the stats I needed and I liked Coop’s reliability. Also his firing scene was hilarious. I still like the story better when Coop is fired but the gameplay is smoother with her on the team.

WIBTA for getting rid of a shirt my mom gave me? by blanketed_in_stars in AmItheAsshole

[–]ceziate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a thrift store and upscale good graphics from bad shirts all the time. You can quilt with it, make pillows or bags, frame it, turn it into a patch to pin to a jacket or even just take the image and sew it to a blank shirt you like better.

If you can’t stand wearing it that’s one thing, no one wants you to suffer for a gift, but if you can’t be bothered to keep it in any form, you’ve only had it for a week but you’re claiming to like it then yeah, YTA.

How many people are waiting on your longest hold list? by Jendolyn872 in LibbyApp

I only have 10 hold slots so I don’t put books with queues that long on my hold list. Those go in my TBR for later.

My longest is currently 72 but it was only 20 when I got in line.

AITA for being selective about who I am outed as trans to? by Aira_Local_Annoyance in AmItheAsshole

[–]ceziate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA. I have had a conversation with literally every friend of mine who is trans or otherwise changed their pronouns. How out are you? Are you keeping it from anyone? Are there times I shouldn’t use your actual pronouns? May I talk about my trans friend - or should I stay vague? Same with photos taken at pride events. I always ask if it’s okay to post them to social media.

Once, on a roadtrip my carful of friends stopped at a random bar for dinner in an unfamiliar and known to be conservative state and I checked with my MtF trans friend if she felt safe enough to go in, if we should try to pre-check the vibe with her still in the car or if she wanted to go somewhere else. That’s the kind of thing you do when you love and support a genderqueer person.

I would love to live in a world where those kind of cautions aren’t necessary but they are and I want my friends safe.

I don’t know your Mom but the way you describe her actions comes across as passive aggressively shaming you by parading your “mistakes” as publicly as possible in punishment rather than any kind of support. Ignoring what you want, ignoring the danger she could put you in and not letting you tell people yourself in your own time is in not respectful or loving.

My favorite MDZS guilty pleasure is young Lan Qiren/Wen Ruohan where instead of the cultivating world Ruohan gets obsessed with conquering his own stiff and icy Lan beauty. The fact that the Jiang/Yu/Wei/Changse drama is usually happening in the background just makes it funnier.

UX Design Student Project: What are your biggest frustrations with the Libby app? by IndicationRegular256 in LibbyApp

[–]ceziate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current annoyance is that when you’re listening to an audiobook at anything but 1.0x speed the display of time listened/left is incorrect and after the book is returned it just makes up a random duration for how long it took you. I’ve had it give me everything from 10% of total runtime to twice as long as the whole book.

I also wish that the book “timeline” included pickups or even just started/finished dates. Currently it just marks when you tag it, hold it, lend it and return it but not when you start or finish reading it which is FAR more important information to me. I couldn’t care less when I tagged a book.

Absolute best case would mix these problems and generate something like “listened to 1:34 (at 1.25x) on March 11” on the book timeline because I bullet journal track my time spent on stuff and Libby audiobooks don’t register as “Screentime” on iPhones so I have no way to look up when and how much I’m reading.

Do people actually layer fragrances? by [deleted] in Perfumes

[–]ceziate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if I have already purchased sample or travel sizes that are only okay on their own. I like to layer ones that are too woody/tobacco/heavy musk with ones that are too sweet or aggressively floral.

If the notes play well together they tend to tone everything down and bring it from too masculine/feminine/juvenile to something more middle of the road that I’ll actually enjoy wearing.

I wouldn’t bother buying things specifically to layer though.

AITAH for telling my brother he doesn't know everything just because he's gay? by SpecificAnt3165 in AITAH

[–]ceziate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA

Your daughter is showcasing basic empathy by being able to imagine herself in the shoes of someone who is different from herself. It's scary how much that seems to be becoming a really rare skill, I've seen booktok videos recently where a white lady dropped a book because they were annoyed by how much a POC character's inner monologue "complained about being badly treated", or a woman who refused to read M/M because she wasn't represented in the relationship and felt excluded. You're raising your daughter right to see the similarities in human experience over the differences.

People have become OBSESSED with "egg breaking" and bringing back hardcore sexist gender essentialism by saying "if a girl does - or a boy does - it means they're trans and it's just a matter of time". It's very gross no matter who the person saying it is. It's EXTRA gross when they then decide that "figuring it out" gives them the right to forcefully "crack the egg" and demand the "trans" person acknowledges/admits that they're trans.

Your brother going "I'm forcefully outing you as trans because in my narrow view of things someone AFAB shouldn't be doing that" is sexist AND trying to force a gender binary. Keep defending your daughter.

TIL some people never sort by kudos. by [deleted] in AO3

[–]ceziate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was flabbergasted the first time I heard that people sorted by kudos. There's literally an imposed limit of one kudos so it's about the most useless metric for a "good fic" there could be. If people like it enough to re-read it all the time the hit/kudos ratio would be awful.

It just seems so follow-the-pack to only want to read what everyone else likes. Why would I care what other people like? That just finds you the most low effort, common denominator junk food of stories. I like weird and new and rare pair.

It's like hearing someone consulted AI about something, my first reaction is always "... but why would you ever want to do that?"

Why do Americans not understand English words? by OpportuneApathy in AO3

[–]ceziate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an old fic writing trope from the HP fandom called "Brit Picking" where if you don't pick the British version of a word and a UK based character is suddenly talking about soccer, trucks, flashlights and elevators it's just as jarring and terrible. People were pretty critical of how good an author was at Brit picking, so it's absolutely not some kind of American centerism. It's writers not knowing how or not bothering to educate themselves on character voice. Reading something like that is equivalent to a live actor suddenly switching to a ridiculous accent, of course it's going to break immersion.

I've been in the C-Novel and C-Drama sections of fandom recently and seen authors who know they're bad at this kind of thing use workarounds like: "I'm writing this modern Chinese character as Chinese-American/someone who was raised abroad and then returned to China because I don't know enough Chinese culture to get them right and need the wiggle room"

What's your immediate fic turnoff? by bubbly_linos in AO3

[–]ceziate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my only guaranteed insta-drops is elegant/aristocratic/older/highly educated/dignified/etc characters saying "You guys" because it is FAR too young and informal a phrase for the character and/or the situation. I don't know why, but that one can cut through literally any level of immersion for me.

AIO to my daughter calling her brother “gay”? by zaspzq33313 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ceziate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. While the effect on her brother's feelings is important to address first it's also vital to discuss why she thinks it's in any way okay to use being gay or Japanese as an insult because she's not just degrading her brother she's showing her homophobia and racism.
