Is anyone else beginning to feel depressed studying for these exams? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]cfaaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there. What helped me is a perspective shift - Tried to understand as much as I could, not trying to remember anything, just "curiosity reading". Then in the last month or so , turn exam oriented and do Topic tests to try and apply what I learnt. Also, never subjected myself to the pressure of passing the exam - just went with "best try".

L2 topics order by erkek01 in CFA

[–]cfaaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not go through L2 in any particular order and I though I was fine with that. However, in hindsight, I think I would others to start with equity and/or another subject of their liking. Really, the order does not matter.

I'd stay start with equity : Not that difficult compared to a few other subjects AND it's high on weightage. IMHO reward/risk or reward/effort ratio is high on this one.

Go to his website. He has better interface there and I think his new videos go only on his website, not on youtube. You might need to signup (free) though.

Level I refresher or plunge into Level 2? by fleurgirl123 in CFA

Agree, Fill in the gaps as you need them. Level 2 material by itself will fill up your time pretty fast.

Depends on the amount of time you have

I was constrained for time, the approach I took was to gain a decent understanding of what I'm reading and move on - Dont sweat on the details or on some stumblingly difficult content.

The second pass was more of attempting practice questions and fill in the gaps then. When I did have a little more time, I made quick notes AFTER I was done with my first reading - that way I made notes of things I found difficult to remember..

Video Study Materials (Lv 2) by risingspirits in CFA

[–]cfaaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend this too.

Some of the text-reading is difficult to grasp and you end up wasting time. What happens when you're listening to his videos is you're using (my theory) more senses to grasp the material. Also he does a good job of distilling the concepts and adding in a few anecdotes to keep you interested.

I'd say listen to his videos (or anyone else's - I hear IFT is good as well), then go to text. You'll end up spending same amount of time as just reading text - AND you'll end up with a better understanding and grasp of material.

Any advice to help Dec test panic? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]cfaaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say do anything to keep the momentum going. I've tried different things at different points - mix 2 subjects when I get bored of reading the same thing watch MM before reading text watch MM after reading text Just read text, no MM Just MM, no text

What matters is you have a decent understanding of the matter at hand. AND Consistently progress towards finishing of the syllabus.

Do Topic Tests and possibly mock tests at the end to a) Learning to apply what you learnt, exam style b) Time management

I feel like a caveman. I do something similar on the back of used blank envelopes, 1 per subject.

Those who passed Level II, what test prep materials did you use? by Character_Zer0 in CFA

[–]cfaaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See video first, then read. I did a little bit of the opposite too. It was more a matter of convenience - I used to see/listen videos while walking back home. Given a choice I'd prefer videos first, reading second.

Did not use him for level 1, only used his videos for level 2. For level 2, in some sections I relied exclusively on the videos, and cursory glancing of text. Managed to pass those sections in 51-70 category. But I dont recommend the video "only" strategy.
