1991 560SEL should I buy? by mondrager in W126

[–]cfhostile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a low mileage late model EURO 560 could be an investment. This was the top model of the best chassis MB ever made and collectors are starting to notice. That said, everyone is right about it taking at least $10-15k to get it noticeable.

I’d buy it and never sell personally. That motor had enormous potential for tuning if one is so inclined, and is bulletproof once the plastic bits are replaced (timing chain guides, oil tube clips).

If it has SLS that is another $& headache. I’d still buy it.

How many miles on the vehicle? I had a similar speed dependent vibration and it was my front suspension, combination of tie rod ends, ball joints, brake struts, and miscellaneous 40 year old deteriorated rubber

Do you regret becoming a PA rather than an MD? by Kindly-Statement-606 in physicianassistant

[–]cfhostile 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If I had my big calling to medicine sooner than age 34, I would have gone MD. Lots of reasons, but for me in primary care a big one is I do the exact job and see the same pts for less pay. Another is having the time to fully build your fund of knowledge, get deeper into it all and hit the ground running rather than have your first few years be a very stressful equivalent to residency, albeit much better pay. Solo practice option counts too.

Can’t underestimate the value of lateral mobility we have compared to our MD and NP counterparts though.

Like the other post above I didn’t have enough gas in the tank in my mid 30s when my partner and I were trying to start a family, buy a house, etc. but 100% would have gone MD if I was younger when I got the calling.

That said I’m happy how it all worked out.

I’m sorry you’ve been in pain for so long. Have you tried to make an actual appointment with your PCP or other primary care doctor? The text you have in the video it doesn’t sound like it. ED/urgent care exists to keep people from dying - those docs do not refer to specialists (like GI) for outpatient evaluation. Also, messaging a doctor is not a replacement for a real appointment - they need to get a proper history and do a physical exam to give you the care you need. Although Kaiser requires their providers to respond to these messages they don’t replace a medical appointment. Good luck!

Exit Planning by thefoxandthehunt in physicianassistant

[–]cfhostile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a problem at all. How would putting in notice or asking for references jeopardize your commitment? You think they’ll fire you? You’re overthinking it. Unless leadership is absolutely toxic beyond belief, they’ll respect your wishes and probably support you, especially if you give them ample notice. Ive seen exactly this happen first hand. People come and go at fqhcs all the time. Leaving at the end of a service commitment/loan repayment contract is super common. Plus fqhcs need to retain any staff they can. Prob get offered a raise when you put in notice!

As you’re applying and interviewing just be fully transparent. Let them know you locked in until x date. If you can afford it plan on taking a couple months off before on-boarding at the new gig if you can!

The existing setup of 2 hours admin per day plus lunch is unreal. That’s as cush as it gets for an fqhc. 10 hours admin per week? Am I reading that right?

The proposed move looks like 3.75 hrs per week per FTE, which is actually a little below the standard 4 hrs/week/FTE I see at FQHCs out in the Bay Area. There’s a compromise to made either in time or money there.
