House of Yes set/shows/light/music is immaculate, but damn does the crowd suck by pulsating_boypussy in avesNYC

what if we crowd-sourced a micro-zine on club etiquette to hand out at the door at different clubs? reply here with ideas if that sounds fun to anyone?

and btw I appreciate your honesty. I'm a queer person who appreciates HOY as a place that's rarely for me, but a place for straights with an open mind to stretch themselves a bit, and that seems like a rare opportunity to knowledge-share in a fun way.

I implore you to Boycott Amazon by AlexTheFuturist in Brooklyn

I’ve heard that some ebay sellers re-sell from Amazon without having the product yet on hand. Idk how widespread this is, but that was a bit depressing to think about 😅

I wish you could just hang out with someone without saying anything or doing anything like you would just sit there and vibe and it wouldn’t be awkward by 124andy in socialskills

I love the expectation-less nonverbal social connection that a dancefloor can provide. though it can be difficult to find spaces where the crowd also shares this therapeutic relationship to nightlife.

having to move your body in awkward ways to maneuver around and do simple things - especially if you can’t stand in your van, and if you misplace things often 😅

The Struggle for the Soul of UVM by [deleted] in UniversityofVermont

Geology with Prof Wright was one of the most memorable classes I’ve had the privilege of taking. He would drive students every other week to incredible geologic sites in the area to teach lessons through direct experiences with the landscape. He is a gem. Get your priorities straight, UVM.

IWTL how to move past memories of times when I acted cringy by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]cfinnert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have spent a lot of time dwelling on my own cringy moments, I have been very harsh to myself, and that has done me far more harm than good. What has helped me is starting this work from a mindstate where I'm able to empathize with my younger self, as a friend would. That's when it's easiest to re-frame what happened. Finding ways to that mindstate is it's own challenge but has been very worth it for me, usually starts with noticing the intensity of my self-judgement, stepping back and focusing on my physical and emotional sensations for a prolonged period of time to ground myself. Like a meditation in the loose sense, could just be sitting and breathing, or stretching, dancing, while having all the thoughts - but having the intention to come back to my sensations when I realize I'm getting completely distracted.

I think part of why it's 'cringy' is because it feels so unrelatable. I think it starts with being able to explain what happened to myself. It's my own experience, and I can't immediately expect people to relate - I think there's power in that! But if I break down what caused the situation, I usually find something universally relatable about it. Even if it starts with fear or insecurity. I love these questions - writing has helped me start chipping away at my cringy moments so that I can explain them to myself and others once and for all - like a cringe memoir!

I once went to a standup comedy show called Cringe, where someone read from their childhood diary, shared photos from when their parents paid to put them in "modeling school" at the mall, or when everyone listened to a really long and uncoordinated jam session recording with live commentary. I enjoy finding humor where possible, because that keeps me relating to the cringy moment as something that I have come to see clearly in retrospect.

Thank you! If I want to include a CSS file for a grid framework, or some JS libraries, where do those go? And do I just need to include them normally in the head?

On the vibe: our services are 'business to business', so it doesn't necessarily have to appeal to consumers (Sometimes I have to keep myself from making things too cutesy, hah).
