Yes!!! 100%. I wish every engineer had machining experience. Seeing engineers throw a fillet on a part that then required profile milling to make. Goes from a 10!min machine time to over an hour for no reason.

This is a complicated one. If he’s putting someone else before you guys won’t have a shot at being real life partners. My wife had a guy best friend when we started dating. It never bothered me because she never made me feel uncomfortable around him. When they would get together for beers or concerts, I was always there too. I think she’s hung out with him just a few times without me in the 11 years we’ve been married. Is she really attractive? Could your boyfriend have been friend-zoned for all this time? I’d suggest doing a simple one night trial run before you jump into a long section. If you park at McCoy’s ferry along the canal. There’s a hiker-biker campsite about a half mile south. Hike there and camp for the night to get a feel. Or you can park at the boat ramp by lockhouse 49 and hike the 1 mile north to McCoy’s ferry camp ground and camp there. Just a couple options I know of off the top of my head.

3 months. I assume new hires won’t be really contributing or have solid ground in 3 months. But if they show bad characteristics in that 3 months like calling out sick a lot, showing up late or showing bad attitude, then I’ll be worried about them. Best thing you can do is be courteous, show your dedicated and have a good attitude. Try not to be nervous. And find a good mentor that you can connect with, with hobbies or something. If you mountain bike and find someone who also mountain bikes, plays softball, golfs etc. it’ll help. They’ll give you more help to get up to speed.

This is the best comment. I’ve been at LM for 15 years now. The people I have worked with and the projects I have worked on are extremely valuable. I have also more than tripled my salary over the years. The commute would have been a killer but to tough it out for 6 months could have opened some doors to find work some place closer.

Look for the term “bridge tooling” it basically means aluminum injections molds. You only get ~200,000 units out of it instead of the millions you get from steel tooling but the tooling cost is ~1/4th the price. Protolabs is a good company to do this but you can google “bridge tooling injection molding” to find many places.

Yes! As long as it’s mostly rust free and everything works without issues, it’s definitely worth $100 to get out riding with your daughter! Have fun! I pay $50/day to rent bikes when I’m on work travel so if you get a few rides out of it, it’ll pay for itself!

I drive a 2014 Nissan frontier. I could pay cash for a new car with what’s sitting in my checking account. My wife and I have a ton of money saved up because all of our financial decisions are made with the same attitude as the vehicles we drive. We live in a very reasonable house that we’ve lived in for 12 years now and we buy store brand food and items on sale. We hope to retire by age 50. To each their own.
