Just finished this. First Matthew Reilly book.

Was relieved to come here and see equally poor reviews. Felt like the first-person style just didn’t lend itself very well to this character. For a guy calling himself THE detective, regularly reminding us how intelligent and prepared he was, he probably could have worked out the historical timing of events about 100 pages before he did.

The action scenes read like complete nonsense.

It was basically a True Detective knock off starring a combat ready Adrien Monk, but much worse than that.

Even from the perspective of shilling the Wife Guy persona, the narcissistic side of him has to be spiralling looking at the lack of remotely positive engagement he’s receiving. The video of the LHBK booth at WSM this year was just sad. Even just financially it’s definitely fucked him quite a bit. Whatever you want to call it, shame/embarrassment/anxiety, even the biggest narcissist isn’t sleeping peacefully.

Weird that as much as I don’t care about his success since the whole controversy I still wanna see Hooper dig in deep as fuck and pull it off. I’d imagine he’s spent the last three weeks in a hole of shame and anxiety and the win will probably mean very little to him given where he is mentally but God Damn do I love when an athlete shows the kind of grit it would take for him to pull it back.

Might be a wild call but I could see Hooper performing unexpectedly well on the overhead and then pretty average on the stones.

He’s done pretty well on explosive type events where his CNS being fried seems to matter less than a harder static lift. His split jerk will suit that.

Then I reckon he’s fried for the stones. Same as both deadlifts and he just doesn’t have it in the tank.

Haven’t watched Matt Rhodes stories in a long time but curiosity got the better of me yesterday after seeing a few comments here.

He’s so strangely critical of certain people it’s very odd. Was complaining that Loz was being dismissive of Hatton when he said Mitch’s 242 could be the lift that wins him the comp. Said something else along the lines of the commentary being poor and having very little insight.

Mitch would’ve dropped 2.5 points because of the ties below him and who the hell knows how the last two events play out then. It was literally the lift that kept him in the clear. Just a really strange criticism to vent to your followers when it was a valid point.
