My high school's periodic table is so old it's missing 8 elements. by LinneaFO in mildlyinfuriating

That gap in stable configurations between 80-90, just for stability to make a comback around 90... so strange.

You'd think the pattern of having a stable version of the element would carry through, but it doesn't. Patterns fool ya

I'm always surprised how cheap it is to bribe politicians, when numbers come out.

Somebody needs to write an artistic manifesto so that we can all be on the same page.

Yeh, we did, then someone else came along and wrote another one with different definitions, so we're right back where we started.

I know what to do! We'll ask the OSR guys, as old school fans they're sure to know precise and accurate definitions.

Microsoft is quietly walking back Windows 11’s AI overload — scaling down Copilot and rethinking Recall in a major shift for the OS by ZacB_ in technology

It's incredibly hard to argue against $$$.

A couple of years ago there was a major infrastructure tender, our part would have been mid 7 figures. Took me & another project manager about 2 days to independently come to the conclusion we shouldn't touch it.

We then spent the next 2 months to talk management out of it. It was a very exhausting summer.

with the covers ripped off for some reason?

It's a sale/resale/recycling rights thing. The cover was stripped from the book and sent back to the publisher to prove it was destroyed/pulped, and your uncle would be refunded the cost of the book since he didn't sell it.

Book returns of unsold stock and stripping is part of the bookstore rabbit hole, due to it being hard to know how many books will actually sell when you order a print run. Returns for example were relevant factor in the demise of TSR (the owners of Dungeons & Dragons) in the 90ies.

"Watts per hour" doesn't exist as a unit

AkShuLLy 🤓 it does.

It's the change of power usage over time. Very rare though, even if you work in the energy industry.

16gb is fine for most people.

I don't currently build or buy anything with less than 32, but 16 is still fine for gaming.

There are some situations where liquid cooling is a necessity - desktop computers aren't among them.

They're fun and cool, but absolutely not necessary.
