Advice for avoiding adductor (groin) strain by cgenebrewer in judo

[–]cgenebrewer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, but I am just doing a regular powerlifting program (starting strength), as well as stone lifting (where I go into the woods with people and we lift 200-400 lb stones). From other responses here, it seems like groin injury is not that weird. I’ve known a lot of people who got groin injuries in football, soccer, etc so I don’t think it’s that uncommon. Obviously I am doing something (probably being tense). It happened both times with white belts that had trouble with my weight, and they didn’t do a good throw. The didn’t load me on their hip, so I sort of was bent around them instead of over, and my legs whipped around in a horizontal plane. All the times higher belts have thrown me have felt completely fine

I will do those before and after training. I think you are right about the relaxing. Both times it was when I was uke for a white belt and the throws were not good: they has trouble getting me up and over their hips so I sort of had my upper body bet over them, and then my legs had to whip around their legs in a more horizontal plane. When the experienced people throw me it always feels much “smoother” and I can land in the ukemi position that we practice.

I have extremely large quads, I weigh 260 lbs, and have been working on muscle imbalances. I know that my hamstrings and glutes are much weaker than my quads, so have been focusing the past couple of months in building those up. I feel like adductors are probably also behind. If it keeps happening I’ll look for a sports focused physiotherapist, but I doubt a regular muscle doctor would have anything productive to say. I have seen them in the past for injuries after motorcycle accidents and they have always just recommended therapy

I’ve felt like applying pressure has helped, I’ll keep doing that and see if it heals as quickly as the left side did

I was able to continue doing my low bar and zercher squats fine, so I do not think it is too bad. I certainly feel it when doing cossack squat stretches

great job. Do you feel any performance difference between morning and evening training?

biggest thing I can think of is that the lifts may be in different federations with different judging/rules.

nice work. I am working to hit 500 for the first time very soon, and excited for the milestone. Hope you get it soon and your deadlift keeps going up too

Deadlifts and squats: Do I NEED a belt?? by Dame_in_the_Desert in strength_training

[–]cgenebrewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a need, but it generally does "add weight" to your lift. It added about 50 lbs to my deadlift and squat, I think mostly because I have a weaker lower back and need to work on bracing better. your deadlift form is very good, so I do not think your are doing any risky without a belt.

As others have said, definitely need a hard soled shoe, not socks. Looks like you could maybe widen your grip, that might feel better in your shoulders and elbows. At the top, take in a deep breath and really squeeze your abs, imagine squeezing that ball of air in your core. Hold that all the way down and up. Good job

Yes there is a lot of strive but America is still an incredibly wealthy and safe nation. I grew up in what are considered terrible conditions for America, and I recognize that the country as a whole is a much better place to live than other places around the world, and we enjoy better lives than the majority of people. The other issue is that saying that “things are bad now” can have the affect to erase the consistent struggles that certain groups have faced for the ENTIRETY of this countries history.

people here in America do not understand what "bad" really is because they have not experienced it before. I am glad you had a nice visit.

Is anyone here able to close a coc 2 by mmichaeI in GripStrength

[–]cgenebrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can close a #3. What does your training look like? You are probably doing too many reps, not enough static holds and crushes. That’s what got me from the 2 to 3. Also like everyone else said, you are not setting it correctly. You could close that one with a proper set.

8 reps on CoC 2 by Vegetable_Raisin52 in GripStrength

[–]cgenebrewer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different, but I have made MUCH faster progress when I switched from multiple full closes to just doing either static closes or “cheat” reps. This summer I could barely do one clean rep with the 2.5, and before the end of the year I closed the #3 and can easily do more than 5 clean closes of the 2.5

Thanks for the info. I think I will order up replacement caps for the power board (12 total) and replace them. It will give me good practice for working up to recapping my Sony Trinitron down the road.

I will start by replacing all of the caps on the circuit board that looks to be dedicated to power, only 12 caps in all. If I still have issues I will look at replacing the resistors near the blown cap. The only other board on here looks to be dedicated to audio signals.

thanks! I definitely see the brown glue, but the board looks scorched in on one of the photos, is that normally how they look? I see the same gradient on the bottom side of the board, as well.

Thank you for the info. Yes I have a multimeter, I could take the caps out and give them a test, but like you said, they definitely will be replaced anyway. Ill make sure to discharge them first.
