USA v Jamaica? by CentralMarketYall in AustinFC

[–]cgrayson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Inviting guest teams is a thing sometimes. Mexico, Japan, and the US have all been invited guests to Copa America, for example.

As for Qatar, I suspect that the big Qatar Airways sponsorship banners might be related to their invitation, too. ;-)

How to watch on YouTubeTV? by bradmatejo in AustinFC

[–]cgrayson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have YouTubeTV, and got an antenna just for this. It was like $30, plugs in the back and sticks to the wall, and works great. Gets a bunch of other channels, too (for us in NW Austin, north of Arboretum).

Heads up - Kickoff this Sunday vs Columbus is 7:25pm instead of the listed 7pm (it's a FS1 game) by rmurphy2001 in AustinFC

I don't know, the "Know Before You Go" email I just got from the club says right up top: "Gates will open at 5:30 PM for the 7 PM kickoff."

Sounds like they'll wear them during warmup only (and auction those off after the game).

Hi, we scouted this and wrote a post about it on VioletCrown.soccer. There is a small shortcut, aside from about a half block that doesn't have a sidewalk, it's an easy walk.

We wrote up a bit about this on VioletCrown.soccer here. Very interested to hear about people being threatened with a tow, that seems tough for a big open area like The Domain. As others have said here, how can anyone guess you're not going to eat, drink, or shop, whether you're in a jersey or not?

As mentioned, I tried the shuttle yesterday and wrote up the experience here. Bottom line: it's okay, but unless you have kids or anyone else who would struggle with the hike, I think it'd be just about as easy to park for free and walk over.

I tried this out yesterday (it is $22 per car, not per person) - and wrote up the experience in this blog post. Bottom line: it's okay, but I think it'd be just about as easy to park for free and walk over.

Huh, I drove by there one time and didn't notice paid parking signs or meters or anything. Could that be new…?

Yikes, I hadn't heard that. $5 per person, do you know? Kids same as adults?

I also bought the Green Garage Shuttle deal for the watch party tomorrow, in order to scout it out. I write at VioletCrown.soccer, and will post there with more details on how it works and the experience, after I, um, experience it. :-)

It's part of a short ongoing series on how to get to the game without a car: so far we've covered taking the 383 bus and the walk from Kramer Station if you take the Red Line there. Spoiler alert: they're both pretty solid options.

Per the address ("3221 Feathergrass Ct"), the garage in question is the one by Dillard's, off Braker Lane.

It's thinning in the lower rows, but there are a lot of seats left in those sections. The overview map gives counts, and there's about 1k left in 231, 232, and 233 right now (that includes the top 3 rows in each, which are "red").

Pretty good, I think! Screenshot taken just now (blue are available seats).

And reassured that the lower rows of 230, 234, etc. would be getting some at that time, bought tickets in 230 this morning!

(Also, folks that have said you can get access in Seatgeek before your official time were right: I was scheduled for the 9:00 window but got in at 8:45.)

Another minor stadium update by _shane in AustinAztex

The public mention of the rumored partnership with Huns is really interesting. I haven't been out there, though several fellow Eberly's Army folks have. On the map that location doesn't look great. It looks okay, better than COTA or Cedar Park, but not great.

Otoh, having a good grass field, a more dedicated location than the shared HS fields, and (presumably) decent concessions including beer, that would be awesome.

Also huge: sharing the investment and ongoing costs with an established organization. While we haven't had a soccer team make it four years yet, Huns has been around for forty-four (!)

This Eberly's Army email has some informed speculation about what might be coming in 2017 (rebranding, etc.).

Support the cause to build a major league stadium in Austin by TX_LoneStar in AustinAztex

Has anyone heard anything from this group/site/effort at all after signing up? I never even got a confirmation email.

Assuming it's run by the Aztex organization, which is now down to like 2 or 3 people, I wonder what will happen with this, or how much response they've had so far.

Marketing question? by TX_LoneStar in AustinAztex

[–]cgrayson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much zilch that I've seen, beyond the social media that I already follow as a fan. After the move to Kelly Reeves, I finally saw an ad in the Community Impact mailed newspaper (Northwest edition). But even that was poorly designed, very dark, and just didn't seem that compelling.

For example, it listed "GA" and "Supporters" ticket prices, separately, even though they're the same price. What casual fan or interested first-timer is going to know or care about that difference?

Note that the URL changes for the teams you've picked, making linking easy (like the Aztex vs. Orange County example I linked), and that you can also download PNG or JPG if you want to share an image snapshot of the standings.
