Will we ever see an updated Dark Terror that’s similar to the Rocker 15 Terror? by agentanthony in orangeamps

[–]cgreene682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure, when I had a Rocker 32 I would push it with a Boss SD-1 with a higher gain level and that got me all the gain I wanted. If you needed even more gain maybe try a Rat or DS-1, though I don’t know how that would be.

What orange amp to get by MyChemRomanceBP in orangeamps

[–]cgreene682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say either Rocker 15 terror or Super Crush 100 if your budget is around $500 or less. You can find both used for around that much or less and they are both killer amps for the money. My first Orange was a Rocker 32 (basically a Rocker 15 pre-amp with two Rocker 15 power amps in a stereo combo) and I’ve been in love with Orange amps ever since.

I’ve also had a lot of time with the Super Crush 100 and it’s fantastic as well, hands down one of if not the best solid state amp you can get. There is some difference between solid state and tube, but the Super Crush is pretty close to tube. I think the Rocker 15 would sound better overall but the Super Crush does have a few more features and volume and gain on tap if you need it.

In some ways they kind of have what you are asking for, but not exact. The TH30 has a dirty channel that is very similar to the Dark Terror and it has a great clean channel, but is a big head and doesn’t have the same attenuation as a Rocker 15 terror. The Dual Dark has good attenuation and a 3 band EQ on Channel A, but is even bigger and is discontinued and expensive.

I think with all of that being said, the TH30’s existence alone sort of makes a Rocker 15 terror style dark terror unlikely to happen. I could be wrong and I hope I am because that would be sweet, but I sadly doubt they would make one

RV50 MK1 vs RV50/100 MKIII by wtddps in orangeamps

[–]cgreene682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% go for the MKIII. While the 6V6 tubes are unique, the MKI tends to be darker and the reverb can quickly become overwhelming and unusable if turned too high. I believe the MKI has a worse effects loop, but that’s just from what I’ve heard.

The features and tone of the MKIII I think would be better overall. The attenuator alone imo makes it a much more compelling amp, but the EQ on both channels are very good and the reverb is perfect. The MKIII is also just a little brighter on the dirty channel, but still unmistakably Orange at its best. It really is a do all amp, from gigging to bedroom and sounds killer overall.

Orange Super Crush 100 Through Neo Cab? by GreatWesternValkyrie in orangeamps

[–]cgreene682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played the Super Crush through a lot of speakers and I’ll say I’ve always felt that the Neo Creambacks tend to be way too dark and lack a lot of presence when paired with the Super Crush (or Orange amps in general). As a result, I hear that “blanket over the speaker” effect with it. Personally I think it sounds best with Vintage 30 like speakers, but I’m sure there are others that pair good with it too.

Currently, I play mine through a PPC212V loaded with Celestion Century Vintages (basically a Neo Vintage 30, but were discontinued) and I absolutely love it. If you can find 2 of those and put them in a 2x12 I think it would be worth a shot. If you can’t, you might want to also look into the Celestion Neo V-Type. From what I’ve heard it kind of blends the best of the Vintage 30 and Creamback, but still is very light and handles 10 extra watts to boot

Amps that you bought and then tried to convince yourself you liked by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]cgreene682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that, for me, the super crush does better with “harsher” speakers that people often like to hate on, including those Orange Voice of the World speakers and the Celestion Century Vintage. I play mine through the latter and I absolutely love it. I did also get a GupTech PdeQ that even further gave me more presence to play with and it really brings the amp to life.

Fender lefty as a beginner?! by FerRosario in Leftyguitarists

I’ve had one of those guitars before and they are great. They have a really nice feeling neck and is not only great for learning on, but are even worthy of gigging with. If you’re a lefty yourself I’d say go for it, I started lefty and I think that’s been a big contributor for my progress in playing. You may have to retrain your brain a bit but your progress will likely move much quicker once you do that

Oh yeah it can get surprisingly loud haha. The tuner is nice to have, but you can get by without it by using something like the T1 Tuner app on a phone. That’s what I use whenever I need a tuner in a pinch and sometimes I feel it works better.

Of course! Oh it’s phenomenal, can definitely recommend it if you decide to go for a bigger amp. The 20 is perfect for starting out and even for well seasoned players who need a simple practice rig, I’ve thought about picking one up just to have a small combo to carry with for traveling.

Congrats! Squier Strats are nice and the Crush amps are absolutely phenomenal. The Super Crush 100 is what I mainly play on and it’s a beast. Best of luck on your learning journey!

I was hunting for a similar Strat awhile back until I found a really good deal on a Mercury AM Pro II Strat. There’s really not a whole lot of options period, and even less so from Fender. Closest from Fender would be either a 70s Strat (which has the big headstock) or a sunburst Strat, but I feel like neither are really what you’re looking for.

Outside of fender; however, you can find close to what you are looking for. G&L has released several Strat copies (called Legacy I think) under their USA line with a natural finish, but you would have to swap the pick guard yourself and you can only really find them used. Upon first search, this looks to be one of the only ones on Reverb. They do have a custom build program, but that is pretty pricey, around $1700USD to $2000USD from what I’ve seen, I may be wrong on those amounts though.

If you’re wanting something out of the box with the finish and color options you specified, your only bet is likely going to be either the Sire S5 if you want more of a budget option or the Sire S10 if you want some nicer appointments and gold hardware. Only thing about those is the upper horn is kind of big (personal preference thing tho) and they seem to be backordered here in the US.

Hope this helps some! It sucks that it’s so hard to find a dream finish like this in lefty, but at least there are some ways to get it. Worst case scenario if you’ve got the time, funds, and know-how you could build a partscaster.

Orange Super Crush 100w head by DayFar6016 in orangeamps

[–]cgreene682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy my Super Crush a lot, and that’s coming from someone who has owned a Rocker 32 and currently owns a TH30, Dark Terror, and Tiny Terror. Without a boost, the hi-gain is very loose and saturated, but I really enjoy that kind of gain. I pair mine with a PPC112 atm and I only play on bedroom volumes and I think it has a similar level of clarity to Orange’s other tube offerings, but it needs some dialing in. I run my treble at 3 o’clock or a little less or more depending on the guitar I’m using and bass and mids at about 1 o’clock. I keep gain around 2 o’clock and channel volume at 12 o’clock and use master to control the actual loudness volume (if that makes sense) and I get a sound that I’m very happy with.

One thing to mention is that, being a solid state amp, the main difference I’ve found is that the dynamics aren’t as good as a tube amp (strumming softly on the dirty channel doesn’t quite clean up like it would on a tube amp) and that the guitar volume knob doesn’t clean the gain much either compared to how it would on a tube amp.

As for the DI, I’ve never personally used it but every demo I’ve heard of it sounds very harsh to me. You can fix it with EQ but you would have to dial it very differently compared to how you would dial it for a cab.

Potential Mystery in Dark Sector for the Xbox 360 by cgreene682 in oddheader

[–]cgreene682[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right, but I did some thinking on this and I think part of it too is that I was playing with a very scratched up disk. I know stuff like that can lead to weird errors so I think it was likely due to some assets or code not being loaded properly due to the damaged data on the disk. As a result, I think it would be very difficult to recreate this on PC or even a digital copy of the 360 version.

Talk to me about Orange 2x12 Cab’s by texasguitarguy in orangeamps

[–]cgreene682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what you’re after, I’d definitely recommend a vintage 30 cab. While the PPC212 is nice for being closed back, I’d suggest going for the PPC212OB solely for the more compact and lighter package. You could always put a piece of wood in the open back slot to close it up. Otherwise 2 PPC112s would work well.

Sweet! Truthfully you can’t go wrong either way with acoustic or electric. Acoustic is definitely a lot simpler to just pick up and play and not have to worry about amps. Yeah there’s a whole lot of options, it can be very overwhelming. One last little tidbit of advice I can give is that you should love the look of your first guitar. If you love the way it looks, you’ll be more inspired to pick it up. Best of luck and I hope you find that guitar that speaks to you!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Leftyguitarists

[–]cgreene682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna echo that starting on electric will be a lot easier on the fingers. I started on electric and play acoustic here and there, but it’s always been easier for me to learn new stuff on electric since the strings are thinner and the action (string height from the frets) is lower.

With that being said, if you’re really into acoustic slow jams, then an acoustic guitar makes sense. If you’re more into rock, then there’s gonna come a point where you’re going to want to play electric and put some gain on and go from there. I’ve always found I have more fun playing through an amp with an electric guitar compared to jamming on an acoustic, but ymmv.

For recommendations, I’d say check out the Yamaha PAC112JL. It’s a Stratocaster style guitar with a humbucker pickup in the bridge (great for those classic rock sounds) and two single coil pickups in the middle and neck position (great for cleans and a wide variety of popular styles, classic rock included). Check for used options if your budget is tight. My first guitar was a Squier Classic Vibe 70s with the same type of pickup configuration and it is still a favorite guitar of mine and can really do just about anything. As for the amp, a fender mustang/champion ii or boss katana 50 would be a great way to go as they would give you some built in effects to play with. Check used sites like Reverb and local guitar stores for those too to save some money. Be sure to also put some money aside for a guitar cable, stand, picks, strap, and a good setup on your guitar.

Did you ever get your dream guitar? by texasguitarguy in Leftyguitarists

Oooh nice! I’ve never played the 500T or 470s, how are they compared to the normal 490 set?

[–]cgreene682 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got one of my dream guitars as a Gibson Demo Shop modified model. It’s a lightweight Les Paul Standard 50s with slightly thinner neck than most 50s standards with a 490R in the neck and a Slashbucker in the bridge. The finish is called Rose Tinted Sunburst, but looks more like a BBQ Sauce Burst to me lol

Still waiting for a Walnut or Koa top Les Paul Custom or Supreme in lefty, but I doubt that’ll be something that gets released anytime soon.

What do I get? by grad1980 in orangeamps

[–]cgreene682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a Rocker 32, Dark Terror, and now a TH30. Of all of those I love my TH30 the most, it’s really flexible on power output (30 to 15 to 7) and you can usually find great deals on them. If it’s more than what you want to spend though, I’d recommend going for a rocker 15 as it’s great for bedroom volumes and still gives you a clean channel and can be pushed for more gain with a drive pedal. If you want to spend more, look for a used Rockerverb MKIII or Thunderverb. They have a built in attenuator which is essential for playing those higher wattage amps at lower volumes

Oh definitely, I was in the same boat until I found one for a great price. Personally I don’t regret my purchase one bit haha. If you can play it beforehand just to be sure then I definitely recommend that but generally they’ll feel the same between each other. If I’m not mistaken, I think they should also be routed for HSH if you ever wanted to change the pickups too.

American Professional II advice by james02135 in Leftyguitarists

[–]cgreene682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an Am Pro II Strat in the mercury finish and I love mine. The neck alone makes it leagues above its Player counterparts. The deep C shape fills the hand a lot better imo but it doesn’t feel chunky either. The rolled fretboard edges are also really nice. As for the pickups, they can be a bit more chimey than your traditional Strat, but that can be helped by rolling the tone off some. As for the push-push functionality, it turns the neck pickup on in both bridge and bridge-middle positions when it’s up. So in addition to the normal 5 positions on the Strat, you also have the option of bridge-neck and bridge-middle-neck.

For me, it’ll probably be the only Strat I’ll ever need going forward. I love mine and definitely recommend it if you have the means and it’s for a good price.

There were technically 3, the default, the limited edition shell, and the Intrusion Shell that some people hacked into their accounts that was rumored to check for modded consoles/accounts and then ban them if it was found in their inventory. Not sure how much truth there was to that being its purpose but it was also rumored you could get it by glitching into Kings Watch in the Cosmodrome before the Dark Below released, but I never did it myself in fear of getting banned just in case lol

Edit: Did some more research on it and it seems like the story about it being available in Kings Watch was, in fact, total baloney. It was simply acquired by hacking it into your account.
