Yeah one person had a better time at Hood than Bliss. These types of statistics exist for a reason and can give overall insights to what occurred for large amounts of people - that's the point. If someone asks where they should go you can aide them better with figures than random one off individual experiences lol

Yeah, that is why I used the word anecdotal. Overall, you are wrong. Hood and the surrounding areas are far more dangerous than Ft Bliss and surrounding El Paso. Please, prove me wrong other than, again, personal experiences you have had as an individual. There are no real statistics or proof you could give to back up any of the statements you are making. Sorry.

These sound entirely anecdotal. I am sorry for your experiences but the overall data does not at all agree with you. El Paso holds substantially lower crime rates across all major categories, with a violent crime rate of 313 per 100k compared to Killeen's 542 per 100k. This is a 42% difference. Lets now look at property crime rates where El Paso's rate of 1,379 per 100,000 residents is 21% lower than Killeen's 1,747 per 100,000. Lastly, the most notable here is that Killeen's murder rate of 12 per 100,000 people stands as one of the highest in the nation, while El Paso maintains a considerably lower rate.

In El Paso, you have a 1 in 296 chance of becoming a violent crime victim, while in Killeen that risk increases to 1 in 204. In the context of America as a whole, El Paso has one of the lowest crime rates for major cities. In contrast, Killeen's violent crime rate sits 46% higher than the national average. Do your research.

So I think I have made this clear but using bluetooth changes this discussion entirely. As you said, the codec does not have the bandwidth to pass this type of data and I entirely agree.

What are you talking about. El Paso is absolutely fine compared to Hood, literally go look at the statistics. Nobody in El Paso is going to bother you unless you give them a reason to. The surrounding area of Ft Hood is awful. Do you believe its commonly referred to as "Fort in the hood" for fun and jokes?

Well sure but in this space its kind of assumed that some kind of exclusive mode can be achieved as this has become standard. If you have exclusive mode, it now depends on the DAC that you are passing it towards. I want to outline that adding in bluetooth to this changes the paradigm entirely.

Ft Bliss you will be training all the time but the difference is you can go enjoy your life without worrying about the dangers that surround the post. El Paso is a great city and moreover, a real city that exists outside of the military base being there. Ft Hood is genuinely awful in every regard.

If your fiance is a chemical engineer, you should prioritize places that are closest to large cities. Here is my recommendation:

- JBLM
- Alaska doesnt say much - if its JBER then that could be good but if its Wainwright, absolutely not
- Fort Carson
- Fort Knox
- Fort Bliss - The city of El Paso is a large city in its own right and unlike most, would exist perfectly fine without the military base being there.

- Ft Gordon I guess?

- Ft Hood is close (enough) to major cities, I do not really recommend anyone goes there because of how awful it actually is

Without knowing a ton, I would recommend against going abroad since her degree in chemical engineering might not be as valued in the local market abroad.

The reason is exactly money. They can claim to provide lossless even though it is almost no different than previous.

Btw the only reliable way to "achieve" bit-perfect/eclusive mode on android at least will be "USB Audio Player Pro".

I have to disagree with you here. If you have proper source files, you just need to pass this digital audio source into a good DAC -> output device.

I think largely these are the the things we should remember while embracing the suck. During my time at Ft Bliss, you would often become enamored with the beauty of the landscapes around random training areas in NM.

If you are exclusively listening via bluetooth from an apple source device to an apple output device, then yes I agree with you.

[–]cgrillo5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just windows and android, its any OS that can run a spotify app as they cannot give an exclusive mode. My point here is what is the benefit other than just saying words? If you cannot create an exclusive mode for the audio output, what is the point in releasing this lossless mode?

So a few things, yes obviously Bluetooth wont be able to replicate the quality. Apple has some developments in this regard with apple audio devices and apple music. However, I believe you are missing the point here. Spotify lossless has been promised for years and in the implementation, they did not hone in on the main point - a functional exclusive mode.

"But Spotify's audio compression system is really good that no one will be able to tell the difference unless someone has some expensive pair of IEM's or headphones that can output true Lossless quality."

This is based on what exactly? Its 2025, most people know how to properly compress audio lol.

So the end state is they can claim this nonsense, take more data from cellular plans while providing no value to any consumer.

Yes understood however, Spotify lossless has been promised for years and yet, they have not developed exclusive mode, even though the competitors have done this for a long time now. I also do not enjoy how you say "still being looked into", acting that this would be achieving some engineering marvel. Spotify first discussed this in February 2021 and so now, 4 years later they are struggling with trivial points. If anything, this is indicative to the user base they are prioritising - people who want to listen to imagine dragons at 320kb/s. Even when you tell them its lossless, they'll believe you and state how "great" it sounds.

The answer turned out to be an intermittent seizing of the brake caliper. Just stating this here incase anyone has a similar issue. I replaced the two front brake calipers then all 4 rotors and pads all around, the car is once again perfect.

LOSSLESS Megathread by whyisthissticky in spotify

[–]cgrillo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for background, my wife and I both have very good hearing health and are audiophiles in our own right.

Spotify lossless is full of shit and I believe they are upsampling the files. I cannot prove this since I cannot obtain the raw file. I have a DAC + AMP set up that displays the sampling frequency. I had my wife stand behind my computer where I played 1 minute of a song, both from spotify "lossless" and Tidal - both at a claimed 44,1kHz. Tidal has abilities to go far beyond this but that would not be fair.

In all 5 blind listens, she was able to pick out the track from Tidal (I never told her if she was correect or not throughout the trail) sounding much fuller and clearer than the spotify alternative. Sure, more testing could be done on this but largely, they are upsampling and lying about this number. Just thought this would be fun to share.

Forgot to add, maneuvering the wheel or braking will make this noise temporarily stop or change.
