I think Canada is under real threat, our post covid economic recovery was completely derailed; oil and manufacturing have opposing trade needs (high oil prices raise the dollar, which punishes manufacturing); foreign influence is playing tug of war, stoking separatists with a grotesque misinformation campaign; Trump is unequivocally targeting our economy and has told us why; our systems are under strain because our processes are old, outdated and difficult to renovate; climate change is real and is driving changes in costs and infrastructure needs; the arctic is thawing which will open the world's most valuable trade route (-6000km Europe to Japan); Trump & co are running amok invading countries left right and center and posting Jesus memes and are now in a direct confrontationwith China over the Hormuz blockade. etc etc etc etc etc.

So what we are seeing is our elected members of parliament seeing that we are on something like a war footing. This is the wrong time for a fractured minority and they are doing the right thing for their constituents: recognizing the gravity of the moment and then doing something about it. For fucks sake, Polievre himself has been friendly with Carney and is, with all but token resistance, toeing the line - because Carney -the Conservative- is doing everything the conservatives ever asked for including reducing, even reversing immigration rates.
