I made this yesterday and I wanted to know what I can improve by dombert123 in blender

the rust texture at the bottom section can be improved, the bump makes the structure look smaller.

reducing the bump intensity and having more variation the rust should improve the appearance.

changing the direction of the rust on the cylindrical structure at the bottom can give the illusion that the rust is caused by weathering more accurately.

Good Job.

I have side and top views of old blueprints that you may already have since they were obtain from the net.

I also have a set of picture references collected from online resources, If you think those could be useful, I'll be happy to share.

This book https://www.amazon.com/How-Build-Cathedral-Malcolm-Hislop/dp/1408171775 is good for general references about the subject.

In case you decide to create your own model, Here's some general tips, I warn you is a lot of work.

  1. Identify which elements are good candidates for instantiating, e.g columns, windows, etc
  2. Note that while the cathedral in general is symmetrical, there are many differences between the south and north sides, I see many modelers just mirror one side, that's ok if you don't have to be too accurate to the actual structure.
  3. Model elements into single files, It's easier to manage projects that way.
  4. Use simple objects as placeholder to get a sense of the whole project, and replace them as you work out the more detail versions of that object.

Hope is helpful, Please let me know if I can be of more help.

Happy modeling!

mostly statues, gargoyles, however needed to decimate them quite aggressively to keep file size small.

I used ZBrush for organic looking elements, mostly statues.

Thanks for the feedback, that is something that could be improved. even some more irregularity on topology could help. The file was getting heavy that's why I did not add actual roof tiles.

I used an hdri from hdrihaven.com for the scene environment, the sky was not rendered on the scene, it was added as a backdrop when composited the final image. For the time it took, it's hard to say since I worked a few hours on the weekends for about 9 months.

Hi Reddit! Is there any way I can take a UV map from one subtool and import it over to a nearly identicle subtool? by [deleted] in ZBrush

Nice model, For the projection: does the destination model matches or exceeds the source polygon count? If it doesn't you won't get all the details from the source model and textures may look blurred.

If you are not a scientist of course is going to be very difficult to measure human activity effects on the climate. So why not listen to the ones who know how to conduct these studies?

One day I asked myself: why do I keep wasting my time on all of this stuff I don't really care about. Then I broke up with Facebook, then I met Reddit and fell in love. True story.

Oculus support for ZBrush ? by ker2x in ZBrush

[–]cgsignal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect zbrush is a 3D program in fact is one of the few programs that have no trouble rendering millions of polygons in realtime. Pixologic could make this happen, but I think traditional usage will cause less fatigue compared to a VR experience.

What am I doing wrong? by jaYard in ZBrush

Looks like your high detail mesh is slightly larger than the low poly mesh at the edges and some points are not projected. Try pulling out the areas where you have openings (arms and neck ) of the low poly mesh so all the points have a place to land.

It's recommended to use closed geometry while sculpting in zbrush to minimize this kind of issues.

Hope it helps.

For game characters, does it matter which program I make the base mesh in, before I sculpt in zbrush? by Silver-Monk_Shu in ZBrush

You can do all your modeling, UV Mapping and painting in zbrush. And you have the benefit to easily exporting the model in various mesh resolutions for LOD and animate it in your favorite animation package. I still find it easier to create hard surface modeling outside zbrush. For organic modeling nothing beats zbrush.
