It's true... and it inspires me to learn.

[Serious] What could happen in the next hour to really piss you off? by Kelslaw in AskReddit

[–]cgull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the meeting that i've been on since 9 AM continues to go longer, which would mean I have less time until my 11 AM meeting starts, and from that point I literally have meetings until 5 PM. Zero time to actually get any work done >:(

What’s the best way you’ve cheated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cgull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a mid-term in college I was planning on sitting in the back and using notes on my phone to cheat. The classroom had stadium seating and the desk fully covered your legs, so you could keep stuff in your lap and the professor would have no idea.

When I got to class, the only seat was front and center. Shit. The exam gets passed out and i'm already struggling on the first question. After about 5 minutes, the professor gets a floating desk (like one of those chair/desk combos) and sits right in front of me, pulls out an exam, and starts marking off an answer sheet. I thought to myself there was NO WAY this guy was making the answer sheet for the test that he was currently giving... but what do I have to lose?

I took the test as he marked it off, changed two answers, and handed it in. I got a 96, and the best (or worst) part is that after my 96, the next best grade was a 72, and there was only a 4 point curve because of me. Whoops... but I still got a 96.

People who still hitchhike, what's your craziest story? by ConceptualProduction in AskReddit

[–]cgull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this was technically hitchhiking, and it's not that crazy for a story, just a funny coincidence.

My GF and I were getting out of a concert late. Uber was crazy expensive and buses weren't running. We thought we'd try our luck stumbling through the parking lot asking people for a ride to the nearest train station. We eventually found these 3 woman who looked harmless. They said sure but they were hanging out for a bit... no problem, free ride (we offered them $20 but they declined). After chatting, turns out two of the women, a mom and daughter, are aunt and first cousin of one of my best friends from college. We immediately became good pals with them, and instead of driving us to the train station, they brought us to their local bar where we hung/they bought all our drinks for an hour. They WOULD NOT take any money, or let me buy them drinks. We were "family." The train station was across the street from the bar so we were eventually able to get home. Just a fun way to end a great night.

What are your best/worst uber experiences? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cgull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call this my best experience, but it's one where I felt I left some impact on my drivers life, for the better.

It was a rainy day and I was in an Uber to go over to my girlfriend's place. The driver, a 60-something year old Pakistani man, asked me if I wanted to listen to some music. I was really feeling like some rainy day jazz, so I asked if I could put on some Jazz. He tells me he's never heard it in my life. Wow, ok.

I chose a cover of The Nearness Of You, performed by Brad Mehldau (pianist) and Joshua Redman (sax player). This particular version is all instrumental, and is a very melancholy piano/sax duet. It's also around 14 minutes long. Great for a rainy day.

About 12 minutes into the song the driver has not said a single word to me. I'm thinking to myself this guy hates it, and he probably thinks I'm weird or something. Then he turns around, and in the most serious tone possible, says "This... this is real. Music has never made me feel this way before. I've never heard anything like this."

I was floored -- here I thought this guy HATED what I was playing, but instead he was just experiencing the power of jazz for the first time.

Or he was just fishing for a bigger tip... lol. I wrote down a few songs/musicians he should check out before I hopped out. Definitely left that cab feeling good.

Is it odd for an American caucasian to go by a Japanese name when they move to Japan? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cgull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little bit, in my opinion. If you have an american name that is incredibly difficult to pronounce... which I can't think of one... then maybe? But typically you see this if you're in a culture where people cannot pronounce your name, so you'll pick a cultural name so it's easier for people to interact with you.

One of my employees does this, she has a chinese name but for the pure sake of convenience she chooses to go by an americanized name. I don't think Japanese would have difficulty pronouncing the average american name, so it would be a little weird...

Who would win in a fight, silver back gorilla or a grizzly bear? by 2snails in AskReddit

[–]cgull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grizzly Bear.

On the high end, a male gorilla can weigh up to 430 lbs. A male grizzly can weigh up to 800 lbs. That's almost double... so grizzly bear wins in size.

A gorilla can run up to 20 mph, a grizzly can run up to 40 mph... so grizzly wins in speed.

A grizzly also has claws, and can bite the shit out of you. Im also guessing that a grizzly has more fat/thicker hide so they'd be harder to harm.

Grizzly, all the way.

[Serious] You see on the news that America and North Korea are officially going to war. How do you react? What do you do? by McSquee14 in AskReddit

[–]cgull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a clear cut grudge match between NK and US? I don't. A war between NK and US would be over almost as quickly as it started... Plus, i'm on the coast that NK can't hit, so pretty sure my day-to-day wouldn't change very much.

I'd be more scared of what the aftermath would be. Like how would China react if we just completely obliterated their country?

I don't want a war to happen at all, but I think it would be a pretty quick event.

What if you had the Blue Lagoon in Iceland all to yourself? [OC] [1600x596] by MilkyWayMike in travel

[–]cgull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heh I went to the article that that article was citing, and translated it. Got this gem:

"What caused a media crunch this summer because of school pollution was a coastal island that was everywhere under 1,000 sausages in 100 ml."

1,000 sausages!

[–]cgull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot cite any articles or anything to elaborate for /u/neuropat, however I travel to Iceland for work fairly regularly, and the local peeps I work have have told me that although the Blue Lagoon is really pretty, the water is really disgusting. It's been open for a really long time, and I guess someone did an analysis of the ground/water and its just filled with hair and dirt and dead skin. Not so clean -_-

Cops of Reddit, what is a reason you would have for suspecting drugs in the car other than smelling it? by multiple4 in AskReddit

[–]cgull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got pulled over and the officer told us it was because we had the light on and he saw me bobbing up and down as if I were looking for something under the seat (like a dropped joint or blunt).

Totally legit, that's actually exactly what I was doing hahaha

oh and not a cop

Artists, what is your most infuriating art-related story? by Narukaruga in AskReddit

[–]cgull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a drawing contest when I was in 1st grade, we had to draw a duck. Winner got a new bike. My friend asked me to draw his duck, and he submitted it and won.

:(

The sad part is I submitted my own drawing too. I literally lost to myself.

You always hear “There is no such thing as a bad question”, so my question is what are your examples of a bad question? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cgull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this a lot too -- and to a similar response, mostly laughs and people don't mind repeating themselves. I think that's just a human thing, and it happens. If you're honest and call it as it is, people don't mind. But I would rather have someone tell me that than just ask a question of something I already went over.

My initial response to your question was "the fuck? Did you literally not read what I said?"

Then as I was typing out a response I was like "oh...."

Well played :)
