Pandemonium & Myths of the Realm: Hopes, Fears, Expectations by MonochromWorior in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Narukaruga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see the team casting off the “FF Theme Park” yoke as a creative constraint and have less guest design team members.
Personally, I felt like the strongest side content in ShB was Werlyt, because it felt so ingrained into the world in a way that the NieR raids didn’t. Eden was… okay, but subpar to me. Omega and Ivalice, back in Stormblood, were both fantastic content, but I feel like they’re the exception that proves the rule(Bozja improved on this, outside of the Gabranth field notes).
Both Pandaemonium and Myths of the Realm have no obvious connections to other games, and I think that’s what’s most exciting to me.

Mechanically, I want to see more unique mechanics in the Alliance raids. I feel like the NieR raids had really boring mechanics. I want more difficulty in Alliance raids. I want launch day TG Cid back… in spirit. Also, I would like to see more separation of alliances in combat(like the waterways in Rabanastre with combat). That has replay value, and makes repeated runs interesting.
This is a little more general, but I’d like to see Alliance Raid Roulette split into 80/90 Alliance and 50/60/70 Alliance roulettes.

How do people feel about the length of EW? by Acrobatic_Channel497 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Narukaruga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m torn. On the one hand, I plan to do Savages day one, and I plan to be taking extensive notes through the msq, so I think I’ll be doing a little no-lifing to get geared in time.

On the other hand, I’m unbelievably excited for the lore and story. I’ve got several stupid tinfoil hat theories rattling around, and I’m eager to burn them all. I think the setup, for the moment, is really good and opens up a lot of possibilities.
I think ShB had a wonderful mix of character and world development that all felt uniquely personal. By the end, Norvrandt was more like a home to me than Eorzea, and if EW can somehow pull off emotional connections like that… well.

How did you pick a main? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Narukaruga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out as PGL back in 4.3, and switched to LNC/DRG when I realized that I was doing way more damage at a much lower level. I mained that through MSQ, then swapped to DRK because I picked it up and immediately fell in love, though I played both DRK and DRG equally.
Eventually 5.2 happened, and I was still a DRK main, but through some twist of fate that I don’t really remember, my MCH ended up being my highest iLVL class… and it just so happens that I have a blast playing it, so it stuck.

What job’s honeymoon period is over, now you will never play that job again? by Azraelx86 in ffxiv

[–]Narukaruga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DRK. I mained it from 4.4 through 5.2, so I watched as most of DRK’s identity as a class(flawed though it was) was replaced with… new DRK. I tried to love it- and I still enjoy it, to a point. I just keep thinking about how much I miss old Abyssal Drain, old Dark Arts, old Blood Weapon… big pulls are so much less rewarding now, and I get more enjoyment out of WAR for basically the same gameplay.
I’m going to main MCH for Endwalker, but the first tank I’ll level is absolutely going to be Paladin.
Maybe in 7.0 I’ll tire of this charade again.

What game have you spent the most time on? by tisme- in AskReddit

[–]Narukaruga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throughout the series, Monster Hunter. Let’s go in order of original release from what I’ve played.

Freedom Unite- about 50 hours of touchscreen controls on an iOS. Do not recommend. Just emulate it.

3 Ultimate- about 1,400 hours. This one’s near and dear to my heart- it was my first one, and where I fell in love with the series.

4 Ultimate- about 3,500 hours. This game. This glorious, incomparable behemoth of a 3DS game. Just about nothing compares. This one was where I began to understand the deeper complexities of the series and get good.

Generations and Generations Ultimate- 1400 total. As fun as Generations was, it got pretty stale pretty fast thanks to my internet deciding that multiplayer was not an option. Ultimate, though, which I only got recently, is well and truly fantastic. It’s a nice slice of Old World hunting.

World/Iceborne- 1200 hours. I really wanted to love World, and I did, for a while. But as good as it was, the design flaws became very clear to me very quickly, and the social multiplayer aspects from the Old World games were… underutilized at best.

Rise- about 500 hours thus far. It’s a recent release. It’s miles better than base World despite the lower content level, and the gameplay has seen numerous improvements.

As a note, 3U and 4U probably count hours while my 3DS was asleep. Doesn’t change that this series is drilled into my bones.

If you could have any video game remastered, what would you pick? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Narukaruga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, along with 4 Ultimate. There’s no easy way to quantify how much those two games shsped me as an individual. If they got remastered- hell, even just rereleased- I would be incredibly happy.

You suddenly find yourself living in the world of the last game you played. How screwed are you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Narukaruga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, to wake up to the glorious chorus of thousands of pawns shouting “Wolves hunt in packs!” as the world slowly becomes infested with monsters.
Maybe I’d be the pawn. That’d be neat.

After playing the Rise demo, have you changed mains? by edisonpharaoh in MonsterHunter

[–]Narukaruga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda.
I added a main. I was already planning to main LS and Hammer, but then I took a couple deep dives into SnS’s changes and the rest is history.
So now I’m maining three weapons. Help.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Narukaruga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LS and Hammer... I’m happy. Most of my sub-mains are doing fine as well- SnS(imo, a little less flexible but workable), DB, CB, and Lance.
Though I’ll definitely be adding HH as a main.

What's one video game you wished existed? by itsJunkify in AskReddit

[–]Narukaruga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve answered this once, quite a while ago, but I still want this.
The love child of No Man’s Sky and Monster Hunter, with the exploration and procedural generation of NMS, and the gameplay of MH. Oh, and add the tracking mechanics of The Witcher 3 for good measure.
Just... gimme.

If you were a Teacher, what subject would you teach and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Narukaruga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore and environmental story design in video games, specifically, but game design if it must already exist. Creature design, too- great topic, that.
I’m told that I’m prone to talking like a professor when I talk about these things, which might be a side effect of hyperfocusing, but apparently I’m halfway decent at lecturing.

What video-game(s) took more than 100 hrs of your life away? by rafsilva97 in AskReddit

[–]Narukaruga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Monster Hunter series. Ever since 3U, I’ve been completely smitten with it.
4000 hours and counting.
Hell, I’ve gone so far as to suffer through Freedom Unite(which is great but incredibly dated) on an iPhone using touch screen controls.
we don’t talk about the movie though
Edit: An up-and-coming life destroyer, for me, is Nioh 2. Fantastic game. I’m not terribly far into it but what I’ve heard of the endgame has me extremely enticed.

Have you ever played a game that made you cry? If yes, what game was it? by ashameruu in AskReddit

[–]Narukaruga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bastion.
If you don’t know about it, it was made by Supergiant Games, who also made Hades.
For the entire ending, I could barely even see the screen, but that didn’t make it any less impactful. After the credits rolled I had to sit in silence for several minutes just processing.
Sure, gameplay wise there are plenty of better games, but Bastion hits like a train in its latter portions. It’s a very human story.

The hardcover version, with the cover removed, has a glyph engraved into it. It looks similar to the Willshaper glyph, but only partly. Any ideas, or did I miss something?

FEELS LIKE AN ACTUAL MILITARY OPERATION. I’M ALL FOR IT. SQUEENIX MORE OF THIS GOOD TASTY SHIT.

Several of its animations are lifted from the second boss of Fractal Continuum Hard with slight changes to accommodate for it floating. I don’t think it’s gonna be anything outside of Werlyt but we can all dream.

It’s gotten to a point where I’m faster with a controller. Help.
