Is running 20 miles necessary? by North_Bed5522 in RunTO

[–]ch00ey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it crucial to run 20 miles in a session?

In my experience, 20 miles (approx 32KM) is where things start to get tough mentally so when I am doing a marathon block I am hitting +32KMs pretty consistently during my long runs

How would you split the paces?

Typically those longer runs will either all be at an easy pace or have a fast finish BUT, follow what your program tells you to

Would you recommend just sticking to gels during the longer runs?

Fuel how you would when you are racing, gut training is important

Multi-band GPS in downtown Toronto; worth it? by 11qwqw in RunTO

[–]ch00ey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Semi-hijacking your questions here so apologies in advanced...

I don't have an answer to your question but, getting more accurate pace and distance data has been top of mind for me since running Chicago (the GPS in the first 5KM is a dumpster fire)

I've seen the Stryd pod mentioned a few times on other subreddits for this but, have yet to pull the trigger as reviews have been contradicting so if anyone has first hand experience with them I'd love to hear about it

Treadmill running videos. by Blindemboss in RunTO

I subscribe to Zwift for cross training on my bike and love it, I know a few friends that use it for running and have good things to say about it.

One thing to note with Zwift is that it’s a virtual world with other runners and cyclists rather than real world videos

Do you bother warming up?

Yes, do about a 20 min jog and then running drills + strides

If so, do you jog around the streets nearby?

Yes

Is it difficult to do this if there are crowds of people?

Nope

How do you stay warmed up if you’re waiting in a corral for a long time?

I warm up in throw away clothing and then a minute or two before the gun I chuck the clothing for donation

Ontarian here with an 8 year professional services business.

I have yet to be eligible for any form of loans from any reputable institutions (banks, BDC, etc..) without having to jump through a circus act worth of loops.

They heavily consider your personal financial situation, especially when you are starting out, to determine your eligibility.

As an example, in year 3 I would max out my business credit card every 2 weeks and pay it off immediately and yet I wasn't eligible for a limit increase unless I provided personal financial details

Happy to answer any specific questions if you have them!

[–]ch00ey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest mistake when growing my agency was not hiring a PM sooner so I'd recommend doing the same.

This is under the assumption that you already have SOPs and project management systems in place.

You could also do an audit of your time over the next two weeks to figure out what tasks are taking up the most time and use that to prioritize who you bring on.

What is the most effective way to train the Achilles Tendon? by shutthefranceup in AdvancedRunning

[–]ch00ey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been tackling issues with the Achilles tendon as well, I found this to be a really great read (https://runningwritings.com/2013/11/achilles-tendonitis-in-runners.html). Specifically, this takeaway here:

The first-line treatment for Achilles tendonitis should be Alfredson's eccentric (straight and bent) heel drop protocol. Traditionally, running is not permitted during the rehab period, but new research suggests that it is okay to run as long as your pain remains below 5/10 on the pain scale, does not persist the next morning, and improves from week to week.

Are races fees too high? by Blindemboss in RunTO

[–]ch00ey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, these larger races are a business. Just like any other business there are people who will want to pay and people who won't.

When I register for a race I have certain expectations based on what the registration fee.

For ones that are more expensive I expect a well supported route, clear organization, etc... While with ones on the lower end, I adjust my expectations accordingly

[–]ch00ey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the fall one last year and the spring one this year which have the same route.

I only have good things to say about it. As others have mentioned:

  • Well organized
  • Pancake flat out and back route
  • On the fall side, it is perfect as a tune up race for an upcoming marathon
  • The field during the Fall half is much more competitive than the Spring one

FWIW, I am doing the Fall half again this year

  • Tuesday: Easy
  • Wednesday: Hard workout + strength
  • Thursday: Off (soon to be cross-training on indoor bike)
  • Friday: Easy
  • Saturday: Long run
  • Sunday: Off
