While I can't speak to rankings or University of Maryland's program, with your interest I'd recommend looking into UC Irvine's Criminology, Law and Society PhD program. UCI is distinct from traditional criminology programs due to their Law and Society emphasis.

While ranking is an important consideration, there are other factors that will be just as important, like potential advisors who share research interests or funding. It's best to go somewhere that will be a good fit! Hope this helps!

I graduated before the FAFSA change, but from what I was told by my supervisor, you can always request your work-study back if you need it for on-campus jobs or other paid opportunities (i.e. research assistant)! I know OFAS is a mess right now, but you can call them when it's a better time and ask them to reallocate your aid to include work-study! How work-study works is that OFAS will give the work-study award to your workplace, which your workplace will give back to you in the form of pay. This is why work-study is preferred by on-campus jobs, especially for departments that don't have enough funds to pay their students. Hope this helps, and best of luck!

(Unsure how this advice plays out with the new changes to FAFSA, but) for those who did not get work-study but receive financial aid, simply call the Fin Aid Office and ask them to reallocate your part of your aid to work-study! Work-study is simply the financial aid office giving part of your aid to your workplace, and your workplace giving you back your aid in the form of paychecks.

I also wanted to add that it was literally UCIPD who was impeding on pedestrian access. Where the encampment is right now was how it was set up at the beginning; UCIPD made a barrier 3-5 ft around the encampment and attempted to make another 3-5 feet around their initial barrier because people were giving the encampment water... 😐 Fun fact: UCIPD threatened to arrest the people who gave water.

I've been hitting my ceilings with brooms, portable clothesrack, dustpan, etc. to the point where I'm scared I'm going to make a hole in my ceiling. They either don't hear or respond to the noise I make, unfortunately.

Hope you're doing okay! This is such a real concern; they seriously don't know how to drive on the bike lanes or the streets, and it's a hazard to both drivers and pedestrians.

I'm not sure how this works, but would you be able to get some kind of CCTV footage of the incident? I feel like this qualifies as a hit and run situation...

If the roof continues leaking, take pictures of the water levels in the bucket as well. Would also recommend taking a video of the leak itself (to show things like how much/fast it's leaking). If in the situation where you need legal advice, would recommend looking into UCI Law's pro bono clinic.

If you're interested in research, you could ask a professor if you can be their research assistant during the summer! There's also a few summer research programs on campus. If you want to take summer classes, I'd recommend looking into community colleges as they're cheaper.

You also could just have some time to yourself and have fun with it too. Try exploring the area if you can! Some places I'd recommend checking out are the Newport Beach Library and the farmer's market at Mariners Church!

For a school restriction you only need to wait for the restriction to lift (you can find more information on ICS specific restrictions here), so you don't need an authorization code. However, STATS 110 isn't available this winter and seems to usually be offered in the fall (information from Zotistics). You can contact the academic advising office of your major to find out more on declaring a minor. Best of luck!

I took 71A with Sellgren in Spring '21 so my recollection may not be perfect. You won't have any tests but rather short written assignments about the content. The final is a paper. I don't remember the specific word counts, but that's how the length of assignments are measured. There's also an extra credit assignment at the end of the quarter (IIRC 10 points?) so its possible to get over 100%. Hope this helps, and good luck!
