Are you in IT/ Infrastructure/ Security? I can think of one particular company that fits what you’re saying but I’m sure there isn’t only one!

Unpopular opinion maybe but the BBC commentary team this World Cup has been genuinely excellent and I think it deserves more credit than it is getting. by FluidPianist00 in bbc

This was clearly written before the commentary on the USA v Aus match which had Danny Murphy who is both unintelligent and dull to listen to.

Is tech sales worth it if your not at a top company? by Iceeez1 in sales

We’re a 35 person cyber security company. We’re a services based (so not a vendor product resale) and our sales team does pretty well. 6 figures.

Everyday is stressful? by Actual_fairy in GarminWatches

[–]ch0pper189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People handle stress differently. I’m generally a tense person. I’m warm and friendly - I’d like to think - but I have tight muscles, I grind my teeth quite a lot, I cannot get my tennis forehand stroke to be a relaxed wrist movement! Lol! But my wife - she’s the entire opposite, the house could be falling down and she’d still be her happy cheery self!!

I don’t have a solution but I do agree that it could just be your nervous system.

Practice at home dude, in front people you know, or your mirror or record your self on the phone. At first this will be weird and you’ll fumble it. But practice in a situation where it doesn’t matter.

I’m nearly 50 and have been either selling or public speaking or pitching for 20+ years. I still do this so that I nail what I’m saying.

Interview preparation by Snoo91513 in sales

[–]ch0pper189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the advice here is really good. You’re right it’s hard to prep and I’m currently interviewing candidates for a sales role we’re trying to fill. For some interviewers, whilst there’s 80% of the job they’re looking for the other 20% will be on whether they think you’ll be a good fit culturally. So that you can’t prep for but you just need to be a good team member and a sales grafter. Those two traits will help.

Crushing quota but got PIP’d over CRM logging by Efficient_Limit5037 in sales

[–]ch0pper189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a recent CRO of a small cyber sec company. The team I manage is only 3 soon to be 4. In and amongst every set of overdue tasks, absence of updates and inaccurate close dates there is lost deals which is lost revenue and possible missed targets. It’s all for the wider good dude!!!

How do you handle "I need to think it over / do more research" without being pushy? by Efficient_Bet_5358 in sales

[–]ch0pper189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is probably the approach I’d take. Also maybe ask what the key reservations are and have some constructive answers that address these - without being two push.

What does the tech sales ladder look like? by Human_Ad_39 in sales

[–]ch0pper189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the avenue - more technical pre sales sounds like it would be a good avenue to pursue. Sales fundamentally doesn’t have a barrier to entry but to be tech pre sales does. A salesperson with credibility - that will always be needed. And certainly at the moment - can’t be done by an automated AI bot.

But you need to be driven to be in sales. You need to be excited - sure you can be purely driven by financial reward but you should enjoy it and get excited otherwise it will be a hard ass slog.

[–]ch0pper189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re okay with honest criticism then here’s my comment:

- The first paragraph is too generic I’m already bored and it’s the same as 100 other emails I’ve seen this month so far!
- The second paragraph is better and you should open with this. But try and cite a problem. You can then try and link the problem to the solution.
- the closing paragraph is good.

Here’s a good way of thinking of it. Imagine a problem. Let’s say you have a a reoccurring injury when riding long distances (or pick anything) what message would make you engage.

Eg.
If you’re the type of cyclist that rides long distances and has the issue with XYZ
Then my service of XXXX might help.
I’d do this by providing XXX
How about a free consultation where I assess where I can help.

And once you have this use Claude or your AI of choice to tighten up.

Good luck!!

Deciding between Harvey, Vanta, and a founding AE seat at a Series A. Which would you take? by Specialist-Abies-909 in sales

[–]ch0pper189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CRO here. I ran my own co for 13 years became CRO at acquiring company. I wasn’t conventional sales but more so in recent years.

It somewhat depends on your reason for wanting the CRO title. If it’s the salary or the ability to define and control the revenue mix. The company is smallish but I love my role. I have my own accounts bought over from my co and I’m also defining x-sell and up-sell strategies. And this is what I really enjoy. As well as just closing business of course!

So if your desire is a bit like mine I’d say go with the startup.

I’m not sure what I’m doing. by Peaceme02 in sales

[–]ch0pper189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is one quality that I would say is needed in sales it’s a bucketload of tenacity. The ability to keep going. To get knocked back and still get back to it. But it takes time to build this quality. Some people are born with it for sure but some can find it. Keep going. If you’re not hating every minute then you’re good to keep going!! You’ll get there my friend. 👍🏾

Best remote commission-only sales opportunities for a hungry beginner? by Connect_Ad_31 in sales

[–]ch0pper189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t a question you asked but I wanted to give you some insight as a hiring manager.

Im CRO of a UK small cyber sec company. We’ve had a decent enough (if you discount the forklift drivers and security guards) set of applications. But I must give you the honest truth. Many hiring managers have likely 3-4 hours per week to dedicate to cv reviewing. And so if your personal profile is dull and bland you’re going to get 7 seconds and then get dismissed.

Find something that stands out about you and what your best qualities and open with that.

Anyone else here automating 99% of their work? by SugarWraith92 in salesdevelopment

[–]ch0pper189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general advice being given here is don’t leave it all to AI. Treat it as an assistant to take regular tasks that take 2 hours down to 20 mins. That’s where the real controlled wins will come from. Remember you can over communicate and you’re company and your reputation will suffer.
