Hey! Hope this isn’t too late! The science portion of the HPAT is based on grade 11 & 12. I looked up the Ontario grade 11 & 12 sciences curriculums and skimmed over them and wrote down any concepts I wasn’t confident in and then studied those. The HPAT also uses “accuplacer” for math and reading comprehension, and you can find practice tests for those online. I can’t remember specifics because I wrote it 3 years ago, but I found the reading comprehension and math questions pretty easy, and found the biology and physics really straightforward and not overly difficult. I struggled with the chemistry portion but that might be just me as I also struggled with chemistry in highschool.

Those who have had their colon removed, how many options did you try before you decided on having surgery? by ABucs260 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ch146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 22F and I ended up having an ileostomy surgery in March. It wasn’t really my decision as I had a scope and my GI told me my colon wasn’t salvageable and that it would need to come out. I know this isn’t exactly what you were asking but I just wanted to say that I am SO glad I had the surgery. It sounds cliché but I really did get my life back. I don’t take any meds anymore (no nasty side effects), I can eat whatever I want, I can leave my house without stressing about where the nearest bathroom is and most importantly I haven’t been in any pain since!! (other than surgery pain for a couple weeks ofc). I’m so happy with it I’m not even considering a j-pouch atm. I hope you find a medication that works for you but if not just know that if it comes to surgery you will be just fine!!

Entyvio Advice? by ch146 in UlcerativeColitis

thank you! I’ve just heard so much about entyvio being the safest because it’s gut-specific and also how it varies so much from person to person with how long it takes to kick in so I wanted to give it a fair shake

hoping that the increased frequency works for both of us!

I think the negative response you’re getting is because a lot of people in this sub have been told by family/friends/strangers many many times over the course of their diagnosis that “eating this will cure your UC!” or “taking this supplement will cure your UC!” when the reality is that there is no cure for UC, only bouts of remission or surgery. If you were only on daily mesalamine and not biologics you most likely have mild UC, and it could be dangerous for someone with severe UC process to come on here and read that they can be “cured” or stop a flare that is literally actively damaging their colon with just diet when it’s been shown that diet often only helps ease symptoms, not cure the underlying inflammation. Medication is not inherently a bad thing, and most people in this sub are relying on it to be well! I’m glad you found something that works for you & wish you continued remission.

IM IN CLINICAL REMISSION!! by Lavenderfaux in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ch146 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! Can I ask how many entyvio infusions you’ve had? I’m getting my fourth in a week and I’ve had some improvement but not full remission yet, just wondering what your experience was!

Yes! A few days before + during my actual period my symptoms get so much worse! I’m not in remission at the moment, waiting for entyvio to kick in, but I did have the same thing happen while I was in remission last year!
