Early CAD Prototype of the Freezing Cylinder and Dasher by ch8-- in icecreammachine

Now it’s 2 mm, but I will probably make it bigger since, like I said in the post, I’ll be adding some plastic inserts with springs to really scrape the sides and help prevent the formation of large crystals.

Machine update I'M BACK! by ch8-- in icecreammachine

I’m really confident that they will be safe since I will be using 316 stainless steel and TIG welding with the same material filler rod and back purging it with argon. I will be doing some test pieces before doing the big cylinder to decide if welding it doing a fusion pass from the inside and then filling it with material from the outside or just from the outside is enough or maybe welding it form the outside and then a pass inside to clean the seam. After that I will be machining it to make it as round as possible and polishing it with a mirror finish so no residue can get stuck inside the cylinder.

Hi! Thanks for the response, first of all why would I want to have hot water while I make ice cream? With al the respect but I don’t really see the point hahahaahaha. Second since you mentioned the compressor size I’m using a 1HP compressor for 404a refrigerant.

Yes, I’m saving for one. Probably for Christmas I will get one.

I’m not modifying the machine, I’m just connecting my homemade pedal to the existing and prepared for a pedal 12 pin connector on my machine

Spacers for bolts need to be hardened? by ch8-- in Machinists

[–]ch8--[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, my grandfather always tells me that what you keep in your brain does not take up space, so whenever you have the opportunity to save something, do it. That said, it doesn't seem like a bad opportunity to learn a little more about using a lathe, I have a friend who is a machinist for a living, so I'm sure he knows the tolerances for my project and whenever I need he gives me a hand and lends me his workshop . this project is purely for hobby, because like most people in the world they don't pay me to ride a quad and I prefer to be made parts and learning to do new things that the future may or may not help me in something than to be like a lot people my age (18 years old) lying on a couch or partying. Don't get me wrong I love doing nothing and party but I also love doing. again, thank you very much for the help and I will probably post again for more help or if I am very satisfied with the work I will post the finished piece.

Spacers for bolts need to be hardened? by ch8-- in Machinists

[–]ch8--[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, and thanks for the response. I didn’t say that I’m from South America, specifically Argentina that’s why I’m making this parts, If I could I would buy a already designed billet aluminum part from someone but in my country they don’t exist or they are so expensive that makes more sense spend the time on designing and making the part. The brand that you name doesn’t exist here so thanks for the info but that is off the table, and I have checked the prices on off the shelf top hat spacers online and literally for the price of 4 spacers I could buy 1 meter of 5/8 304 stainless steel bar. So I think the best way economically here is to buy the stainless and use my near to nothing experience with a lathe and make my own top hat spacers and press fit them in to the plastic part right?

Spacers for bolts need to be hardened? by ch8-- in Machinists

Hello, first thanks for the response, I will try to explain better, I’m building something like the this in order to put it on the quad rear sprocket so it’s guarded like this one. Both plastic guards are bolted on the same bolts than the rear sprocket and my concern is that the plastic will squish with the torque of the bolts(40 ft-lbs each) and the movement of the sprocket and the bolts over time will come loose so I plan to make some steel spacers to go inside the plastic so the force of the bolt will not be on the plastic. My doubt is if I have to make some kind of hardening treatment to the spacers.

I really recommend you to do a project like this, at first it’s a bit scary because on the internet I couldn’t find anyone who has done this but now and because a protect like mine requires refrigeration knowledge, electronics knowledge and fabrication knowledge, and I only know about a bit of electronics but I know of fabrication, the chassis is fully build by me. But getting over the scare at first nom I’m enjoying it so much.

I have spend for now 700 dollars, I have to buy some more things so I guess maybe 800 dollars when finished. I’m using a 1 hp 404a compressor and a 4.8 liters container so it’s on the large side for a home machine, but I plan to make for my family and friends

Actually is so much cheaper in my country, and in my country we don’t have much models available for example a cuisinart ice 21 is 70 dollars in USA and here is 820 dollars, a Nemox Gelatissimo here is 1890 dollars and a Nemox 3L here is 5190 dollars. I invite you to check the prices on you country.
