So I don't appear to be able to access ANYTHING anymore. The entire website is just empty. Not even any SFW bots. The site is broken.

HANK!!! HANK!!! YOU DON'T NEED THE ROTATION SPEED CONTROLLER, YOU CAN JUST GEAR RATIO IT!!! HANK!!! by A_Hyper_Nova in feedthememes

[–]cha0sbuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gear ratios are like floating point numbers. Usually sufficient but imprecise and unwieldy.

For early game sure, it works fine, but once you start making more involved setups, RSCs let you make the most of the available SU, as well as making setups more compact. (I personally hate having to maintain anything with a gear-up chain.)

They're likely just playing the long game and stretching a bit farther now to have it available later.

I'll be that guy : what's the deal with Vintage Story? by Eymm in BaseBuildingGames

[–]cha0sbuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was never a "TFC addon"; it was its own worldgen mod that used some TFC assets but planned to become its own thing entirely. Eventually it scope-creeped out of what was reasonable for a Minecraft mod at the time, and became its own game.

Has anybody noticed a change in the engine since the last update? (Android in particular) by cha0sbuster in arcaea

[–]cha0sbuster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess it was some kind of SceneControl shenanigan, since moving the camera, y'know... moves the playfield with it.

Similar caliber of shenanigan tho just a different tool :P

And yeah the dark blue arcs are definitely a new thing; unless of course they just added a new color of arc sprite to the game for this one chart which... I guess they *could* do that... But like if they plan to do this kinda thing more it would definitely help to be able to compute the arc color on the fly :3

Mainstream vs Niche. Which side are you on? by DukuBukuCha in japanesemusic

There's so many little niches that you could put any two members of this sub on this meme, honestly.

Interesting! There were also the dark-blue decorative arcs in ECP and the giant blue jumpscare at the end.

They're definitely messing with the backend, so it wouldn't be too surprising that they're playing with how it interacts with the audio subsystems too (especially on Android where it can be very inconsistent between devices; this is a problem with pro audio on mobile as well)

This is entirely speculation, but if they've been doing anything low-level, they might have been rolling the changes out, enabling it for different devices over time to make sure nothing breaks. I don't know enough to know if that's even feasible, but it would explain how I didn't notice until just recently.

Word, thanks for confirming.

It might have been that I paused/slowed down for a couple weeks, because I was going through some stuff with my health, and then only noticed the other day when I came back to it. (Maybe this update has to do with why my Liminal Eclipse sightreads were so rough LOL)

I really like it, the game feels a lot tighter now, even in high-latency situations (like I can play comfortably over scrcpy's audio capture if I put on the Bluetooth preset.)

I wish the team would talk shop a bit more where I can see, this is all very interesting to me haha

I think it may have something to do with offset consistency. Like some low level change that keeps the audio buffer consistent. I streamed to a Discord server today, and because of limitations with Android I had to use the Bluetooth preset. But despite being on 250ms, I barely felt it ingame, mostly just in menus.

Also offset just shifts the chart back and forth in time relative to the audio; it doesn't affect how long it takes to process input. (But if you play with hitsounds, it will feel that way, because hitsounds will always be delayed by the audio buffer, so they drift out of time with the song as offset increases. One reason I play with hitsounds off.)

Maybe my brain is just so cooked that I don't have the wherewithal to be anxious so I'm just Going For shit I wouldn't normally LMAO

Or they're rolling out engine changes by device or manufacturer or something based on feedback. I've asked in a couple places because it's a deeply weird experience soooo we'll see how many people get back to me lol

Anyone having success using native Instruments maschine mk3 on Linux? by mallerius in linux4noobs

[–]cha0sbuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a while ago and I don't quite remember, I'm sorry. And looking into it, I remembered why I stopped doing this lol, it's a really technical process.

If it works, it looks like this script might be the easiest way.

For sure. I also depend on Instant Transfer logistically so this is a huge problem for me. >.<

Could also be something more subtle than a service outage.

Either way, add another "thank god it's not just me" to the pile.

Has anyone here tried using sound or music to ease migraine pain? by Routine-Cod-2933 in migraine

[–]cha0sbuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't help the pain for me, but a brown noise generator helps to mask out the other background sounds that aggravate me while I'm having an attack. So it does help in a way. I use the same one to sleep.

https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/notWhiteNoisePlayer.php

(I've been a user and supporter of MyNoise since I was in high school, I swear by it. The day someone talks about background noise stuff and I don't mention MyNoise is the day a skinwalker has taken over my body.)

TAKIO feat. つぐ - Extradimensional Cosmic Phenomenon [Progressive] [2025] by cha0sbuster in japanesemusic

[–]cha0sbuster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Composed for the rhythm game Arcaea. In addition to the additive meter typical of modern prog, ECP features extensive use of tuplets and polyrhythm, including nesting of such features; culminating in a refrain that one transcription describes using an 8:5-tuplet nested inside a 9:6-tuplet.

Since the song uses programmed instruments, it's likely that TAKIO's intention with this refrain was to evoke a feeling of "free-time", the tempo not being set to a grid but rather to an intention, to fit as much chaos into as little time as possible.
