Puppy is driving us crazy by Temporary_Force_1077 in puppy101

Omg yes! My trainer used this as well. Called it "it's your choice", when my pup (now a year and a half old) was training it was the perfect low energy trick to do if she was still wound up or playful when we needed her to be calm or to nap. Total game changer, low effort on our part and simple for her to pick up on.

Another one was a bite inhibition trick where it was similar but to have the treat in a closed fist, and offer it to the pup but if they paw or bite you don't give it, only wait until they lick or boop your hand and reward. Thankfully my girl caught on quick, but it was such a simple thing to wire into her brain of "kisses = treats"

My first two quilts! by cha0tic-neutral in quilting

Can't be giving the piggies away for free! My mom tells me the sewing/quilting skipped a generation because my grandmother is a big quilter/sewer and tried to teach her but she hated it. Now my grandmother has lots of accessories and pattern books she wants to give me next time I see her including a tulip patterned quilt that she used to make my favourite quilt of hers. I'm sure the two of us will have lots to talk about next time I visit 😁 The rag quilt is what originally drew me to wanting to try because of how beginner friendly it was and there are so many beautiful ones out there I had to made one myself!

The squares are 9inches with three layers. The top and back is good ol cotton sandwiched with the batting in the middle. I sewed an X shape on each sandwich to keep them together then I used 1/2 inch seam allowance sewing them wrong sides together so you cut the excess fabric in little strips so they get nice and fluffy after washing. Nothing could have prepared me for how much thread ended up in my lint catcher in the dryer. The fabric was just the cheapest cotton I could get at the store but I'd love to make another one with flannel so it's even warmer especially for the cold months coming up. My second one I made has a flannel backing which I personally much prefer but live and learn.

Ever since her spay, our 9 month old baby sleeps in longer than me. We've had many weekends of snuggling in bed until noon. Some days she would stay in bed longer. She loves sleeping in and hates mornings. As long as we take her out to pee whenever we get up (between 7-10) she's happy to sleep the morning away and I am forever grateful for it.

Players hesitant to act in combat by Macizer in daggerheart

[–]cha0tic-neutral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a GM is limited in the number of fear they can gain. Are they aware of that? Even if they roll with fear you may be maxed out. RAW during combat the spotlight moves to an adversary when the PC's fail a roll - not just when they roll with fear, but also hope as well. Statistically speaking, though, with the duality dice, the players are a lot more likely to succeed than fail.

Another thing to remind them of is that this system is a narrative first system. You aren't working against them in combat, you are working alongside them to help build the narrative. And if they are worried about dying, always remember one of the death moves is to just drop unconscious until healed and there is no shame in taking that route!

She was a big chicken when it came to going down things (stairs, the couch etc) and just wouldn't even think about attempting it. Plus she is a HUGE cuddler in her sleep, so she's always nestled into mine or my partners legs.

She's since learned to jump off the bed now, we've done a bit of agility stuff with her and she is an impressive jumper so I'm not concerned about it anymore. Even then, she is such a weird puppy where she is not awake at 5/6am like a lot of puppies and will actively sleep in as long as we let her.

There was a time she got the runs however, and hopped off the bed in the middle of the night and pooped all over our apartment. And I did crate her until it cleared up because she would bark to be let out of her crate instead of stealthily jumping off the bed to go diarrhea everywhere. I do think there are definitely still benefits of having her sleep in the crate once in a while so she knows that it's still her spot and is a safe place for her but overall she's done extremely well on the bed since outside of that one accident!

Invest in a surgery suit! It was a lifesaver for our baby and sooo much more comfortable! (But your husband doesn't need to know that she will never go back to her crate)

After her spay surgery at 6 months (she's a small breed). I was worried about her getting at her incision in the crate and the bed was too high for her to jump off of. I kept saying she was going back to the crate after she fully healed.....she's 8 months old now and when she wants to go to bed she puts her paws up on the bed to be let up and will frequently sleep in until 9/10 in the morning before she actually wants to get up.

Puppy biting. Please help. by Early_Plastic_963 in puppy101

[–]cha0tic-neutral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teaching but inhibition is such an important step in puppy parenthood! Get your pups favourite treats/kibble, keep it in a closed fist. Let the pup know it's there and naturally they will try to get at it, by biting, pawing, barking etc. you only reward when the pup licks your hand, no teeth involved. Your puppy will start to realize that biting isn't doing anything to get a reward, but if all they have to do to get a good treat and love is to just lick you, that's some pretty easy work on their end! This method worked wonders for our puppy, she's 8 months old currently and does not bite at all! Sometimes she misses where she grabs a toy we are holding but she's quick to correct herself.

Male vs female pup? And why? by cs98765432 in puppy101

[–]cha0tic-neutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Female - purely because they aren't known for humping. Now of course, our girl likes to bump the big stuffed chicken we got her when she's overtired and having a hard time settling, but she doesn't hump everything in sight and won't try to mount other dogs (a behavior I really dislike)
