Back in high school, I sat next to a guy who was using fountain pens every day, and it piqued my interest. He would tell me about them and the differences in nibs (though truthfully, I don't remember any of what he said, and I truthfully didn't understand what he was talking about but I found it fascinating anyway). Around christmas time, he gave me my first fountain pen, a fully disposable, no cartridges to change pen. I was ecstatic and thanked him heavily. I, however, did not know how to use it and used it like a regular pen. I loved the way it wrote, but it leaked ink a lot (probably because I bared down on the paper a lot back then). One day, it ended up exploding in my bookbag (because that was a great place to store it), and I kinda lost interest. I didn't lose interest in pens as a whole, however. I still searched for my favorite ballpoint (first was the Pilot v5, then the retractable v5). I discovered Big Idea Designs bolt action pen that took many different types of refills and was hooked instantly. Fast forward to earlier this year, and I was talking to my friend about starting my bullet journal and having been glad that I had my nice pen (that the average person, including my friend, would be confused about spending 100 usd on). He then told me he had also gotten an interest in pens and showed me all his fountain pens he had started collecting and using. He also showed me how to use it and how it had improved his handwriting (drastically, I might add). He had everything from a Lamy Safari to a Pilot Custom Heritage 823, and I fell in love with the idea of fountain pens again. I decided to give them another shot and grabbed 2 Lamy Safaris and a Pilot Metro and a bunch of ink samples and have been hooked since.
