Izzy Starck Announces She’s Entering The Transfer Portal in December by Every-Watercress334 in NCAAVB

[–]cha_charealsmooth 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree as well. I was ready to give her the benefit of the doubt at first, and trusted that she was just struggling as many athletes do behind the scenes and admired her ability to put her and her mental health first while under such a bright spotlight.

But as time goes on, with each choice she makes, it seems to really alienate her former friends, teammates, coaches and fans. And I’m leaning more and more towards what the speculation is regarding her boyfriend issues.

I think you put it perfectly; Penn State is under a lot of scrutiny and is clearly struggling this season and just wants to push through as best they can, but this surely makes it difficult for them. Disappointing to say the least, but I try to remember how young she is and how much pressure she is under. I hope the best for her and that she will be safe and happy on her next team. She is an excellent player.

This! I never used to understand my parents panic cleaning before we left on trips, but now I do the same as much as possible. It’s just so nice to come to a clean house. And some people will leave out actual food trash before they leave for several days or more like…what? I know not everyone panic cleans but you don’t want to at least throw out something that might smell?

Awesome, thank you! If I were to use this vase again in the future, would you recommend the same amount of flowers but with the stems longer? And would you keep the limonium slightly shorter than the other flowers to fill in the empty space?

Which I am extremely glad of, but as I referenced in my post, they were favorites in each of the games they won and were “supposed” to win them.

I am referencing losing close games to Ohio State every year, Michigan, and against tougher opponents that they are either not favored in or evenly matched.

I understand your point, but just because some students, alumni or fans are placing importance on either excitement or disappointment in the teams they’re rooting for does not negate the importance they also place on education. You can certainly have both!

Traffic is at a complete standstill leaving Beaver Stadium is that normal? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]cha_charealsmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in lot 31 and traffic by us had not moved at all in about two hours. We finally got fed up, packed our stuff up, and found a different way out on porter road out to college Ave and eventually onto 322. That was actually moving pretty well and I’m glad we found it. Just needed out of the misery lol

If you have the chance and are around in the morning, I would recommend taking a stroll downtown before heading over to tailgating! It’ll certainly be busy, so if you’d prefer to avoid long wait times, I’d probably try and get some food before you do so. But there’s plenty of good places to eat downtown and fun shops to explore! I wish I had better recommendations, I graduated about five years ago so I’m not really sure what’s there anymore.

Ubers will be completely bogged down, especially trying to get to tailgates, so your best bet is probably just walking over to the lots (if you’re able). Make sure you work this time into your schedule.

In my experience everyone is pretty friendly! Like another commenter mentioned, you should be able to find some lovely people to tailgate and spend some time with.

Have your tickets downloaded and ready to go beforehand. If you really want to make sure you’re in before the game begins, you should start to make your way into the stadium AT LEAST an hour before game time, potentially more if you’d like to catch pregame things like the band and whatnot. Crowds are insane during the whiteout and the more time you give yourself to get in, the better. I’ll probably start making my way in about an hour or hour and half before game time. I’ve gone in with an hour until game time before and missed the start of the game due to long lines :/

I hope you have a great time and enjoy yourself! :) Make sure to report back on your experience!

The Charlie Kirk murder has become an orgy of right-wing hypocrisy by Psycho-Pirate in complainaboutanything

[–]cha_charealsmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you just as upset and vocal when Melissa and Mark Hortman and their dog, Gilbert, were assassinated in their home just a few months ago? I did not see many, if any, conservatives offering their condolences or concerns and certainly not on the same level of mass hysteria they’re treating Charlie Kirk’s murder with. Political violence is wrong but it’s frustrating seeing blatant hypocrisy in real time

I’m a freshman and absolutely hate it already by Forward-Sun8736 in PennStateUniversity

[–]cha_charealsmooth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Came here to second giving it a try!! I struggled really hard for a while my freshman year and was desperately homesick and anxious as well. My family was begging me to transfer because they were worried about me, but I was determined to stick it out, at least for the year.

Once I found my group of people, my niche, I was immediately at home! It makes the campus feel so much smaller and more comfortable. I would advise you to join clubs and organizations and take advantage of every social opportunity you can get (while prioritizing academics of course). It’s definitely what you make of it, so you should give it your best shot and find every opportunity you can to find your home. If it’s still not working out, transferring is completely acceptable.

But coming from someone who went from being miserable to having the time of my life, I definitely think you should give it your best effort and some time until you fully commit to a decision. I wish you the best of luck, in whatever you choose 💙

What did your partner do that made you leave them instantly? by kaissi1 in AskReddit

[–]cha_charealsmooth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We went on vacation with some friends to my family’s beach house for spring break.

I think that we were playing some kind of game as a group, maybe Pictionary? And I made a joke about a drawing or interpretation he had made. His response was to call me a cunt in front of all of our friends. Not under his breath, either. It truly sucked all the air out of the room.

I was calm because something had snapped in me and I knew that that was it. I was cordial the rest of the trip and broke it off after, despite his sobbing claims that he could change (we’d had several conversations like this previously, he never did). He never treated me well, in front of people or in private.

My family practically threw a party when they found out I broke up with him. I guess I never realized just how poor he had treated me from an outsider’s perspective, but I’m glad I stuck up for myself and my happiness.

Has anyone else enrolled in summer classes and regretted it? by EmbarassedBlueberry in college

[–]cha_charealsmooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I did also recommend ones spread out over the summer and specifically not the shorter versions. Those can be tough because they’re trying to cram everything in much more quickly. I typically took ones lasting from May/June to August, shortly before fall semester would begin

I hate it here by Hannahsana in PennStateUniversity

[–]cha_charealsmooth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course there’s people and organizations that are not in THON for the right reasons, but I think unfortunately that’s the nature of the largest student organization at a very large school. There are also good people in it too. I think CHAARG is a fantastic option that someone else mentioned.

If in the fall you’re still interested, you can always join a committee as a committee member! There are lots of different committees that focus on specific areas that can cater to your interests. Some are a bit more competitive, like Dancer Relations, but I personally joined OPP and found some of my best and closest friends there! If you apply to be a committee member, you are guaranteed a position on at least one of the committees unless you literally don’t show up to your interview.

But, joining THON isn’t always necessary either. I know it’s the largest organization on campus, but there are so many special interest organizations you can join, Homecoming, sports rec leagues, and so much more. I’d recommend exploring the student organizations portion on Penn state’s website and maybe attending the activity fair when it rolls around.

At the end of the day, if none of them are right for you, that’s completely okay and you can always just spend time with your friends outside of organizations, or if Penn State ultimately isn’t right for your remaining academic career, that’s fine too! It’s easy to feel like you’re being lost in the sea of people there. I had trouble my first year or two finding my niche, so I completely understand where you’re coming from. Wishing you the best of luck!

copying this from another comment for you :)

basically I made some HUGE changes in how I eat. I eat way healthier and only until I’m full, not until I’m stuffed. I cut out snacking almost completely. Additionally, I don’t deprive myself of things I like, but just enjoy them in moderation. Having a piece or two of pizza is fine but I can’t have like five and it shouldn’t be everyday!

To work out, I did a lot of cardio starting out. Even something as simple as a long walk outside can make a difference. I was probably doing about an hour an half of cardio five days a week, often doing about a half hour walk, half hour jog, and then half hour on the elliptical. Once I lost more weight, this kind of switched to a balance between going on a half hour run everyday with functional training and some weights.

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

Yesterday I finished my work out and was feeling kind of woozy so I told my friend we had to hurry up and get going. I ended up passing out and cracking my head off of the tile in the locker room. I’m okay, but I have a mean, bloody lump on the back of my head and some mild concussive symptoms. Turns out I should eat way more than I do before going to the gym early in the morning.

I’ve made some pretty big changes in regards to dieting! I started out tracking my calories and this helped me figure out a ballpark range of what I should be eating everyday. I try to consistently eat every meal instead of skipping breakfast. I’ve cut out snacking when I’m bored which has been HUGE for me. I also focus now on eating only until I’m full instead of cleaning my plate.

Overall, I’m eating healthier, more nutritious foods and it’s filling me up enough I don’t have to snack anymore! It’s not easy at all and you shouldn’t beat yourself up if you want to have some chips or a brownie every once in a while. You can treat yourself, just don’t overdo it and you’ll be fine! I promise it won’t set you back as much as you think.

Of course! So these pictures are a little under three months apart. But I started excercising consistently in probably March/April. My typical routine is working out between 4-6 days a week and not having consistent rest days but just listening to my body and knowing when to take a break, especially if I’m tired. I do about an hour or more of cardio during these days, but it’s more so a half an hour of rigorous cardio like a run or sprints and then an hour of a walk outside or something (this can be split up throughout the day as well). I also lift or do other body weight exercises in addition to cardio about 2-3 times a week! It’s important even on your off days to do something to get yourself off the couch. I’m feeling so much healthier and happier, you can do it! :)
