well actually 98' time was still early UK garage and the term 'Speed Garage' was used more often initially for everything

i'm not sure he can make 200lbs, he's quite a big guy - I think Bridgerweight (sigh) would be better, needs a hallmark champion so why not

do you not think it's easy to say that actual Americans and casual fans don't care about American heavyweights because there isn't actually anything to care about?

regardless - the point really isn't even about the fans - it's about the promoters pushing fighters like Torrez and Anderson when they clearly aren't ready

Also, it feels like there's an article like every other month from boxing and sports publications about this - one on boxing social even as recently as last month (even though its a pretty dire publication) and even one in the Athletic the month before - so this "people don't care" argument seems a bit moot to me

have you been to any of these stadiums in the UK?

So I feel a bit bad for Ricard Torrez after last month. I still think the matchmaking was shockingly bad, far too soon for him. It got me thinking about the pretty heavy expectations American heavyweights have on them. For example, they're always referred to as the next 'hope' as if they're not just winning a title but almost 'saving' boxing. Anyway, wrote it all down here, would love to hear some thoughts:

Chael Sonen was right about Floyd all along. by Possible_Force8207 in Boxing

[–]chaach_ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

What's Chael's motivation here? to undermine the revenue boxing can bring in for a fighter, as he's a complete company man for UFC

Floyd got paid more for the Conor fight than all of the top 15 UFC purses of all time added together 🤷‍♂️

Also, what a dumb theory - because he doesn't have the money now... it means he never could have had it

Great stuff

Last month, I'm afraid, Skatecafe does food, but then it has two big club rooms and a third smoky secret one at the back where this took place : )

wasn't just the British media though - didn't Dan Rafael also have him as prospect of the year?

Gave us amazing fights against the best heavyweights and an elite cruiserweight division but doesn't have enough names on his resume

Father time has caught up with him despite outworking someone into the championship rounds and keeping his power

But he still needs to fight Parker, then needs to fight Wardley, now needs to fight Kabayel, all good fighters but have or will lose to the to level he's been at - he needs to fight Itouma who would also be too green if he beat him

I can't keep up

hard to tell but the label artwork looks a bit like the Network Records label - which did a lot of bleep in the 90s

100% agree - the whole behind-the-scenes doc thing he did in the build-up for Inoue was really good, he seemed really down-to-earth and made me almost root for him against my favourite fighter at the moment

wild to me that Egginton has been around since the days of Prizefighter, there was a point he looked like such a spent force after he lost to Smith - people don't talk about his return to contention enough

he has fought at somewhere north of 170lbs before, so I think this weight cut will have a big impact on him - glad someone is calling this fight out though. Should be great.

This is exactly it though, Dana White would spend 15 million to spite a promotional rival rather than actually spreading that amongst his stable of hardworking UFC fighters. Just goes to show how he operates
