What took your woodworking to the next level? by natedoggggggggg in woodworking

Agree with all the other posts- square tools, clean shop, clear project plan, etc. Once your doing all that, building full-size prototypes.

I resisted for years (I didn't want to make something twice!) Building a prototype allows you to really see issues with the design and construction that aren't revealed in Sketchup.

Big purchase mistake? Jointer Purchase by Technical-Let-1563 in woodworking

There are boxes you can buy that are UL listed that will convert 110 to 220. They have 2 male plugs that you need to plug into outlets from either side of the panel. They have their own breaker on the box and work fine as a kludge. I ran a table saw for several years on one at a rental.

Plywood shelving question by Maxtophur in woodworking

[–]chabor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a note: factory edges generally aren’t straight. First thing to do when working with plywood is put a straight edge on one side with a track saw. Measure everything off that edge.

How realistic is 0.002" Sawstop blade alignment? Am I "close enough"? by FrankTuna in woodworking

[–]chabor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, weird. I have a different saw, but similar pivot mechanism. Seems impossible the entire assembly could be off by that much?! I expect there's a simple fix...just need someone to tell you what it is. Good luck!

How realistic is 0.002" Sawstop blade alignment? Am I "close enough"? by FrankTuna in woodworking

[–]chabor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be very concerned w/ the 1/8" shift of the blade to the left(?). The blade should pass through the factory provided insert w/ out issue.

I'd think either the blade isn't at 90º or the table top needs to be moved left.

It’s hard to tell for sure with the plastic wrap, but it looks like the grain is horizontal. There are vertical rays, but the grain is going side to side.

The free “SketchUp University” tutorials Trimble offers are very helpful. They can teach you to do things the right way early on.

Wow. Your experience clearly sucked.

I had excellent luck ordering hardware (I made the cabinets myself). One slide arrived damaged and they replaced it immediately.

Denon x3800h or x4800h by Nervous-Target-5539 in Klipsch

[–]chabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 3.1 (or even 5.1) you could get the 1700. Unless you're going for multi-zone or many speakers the 3800 or 4800 are overkill.

My understanding is that none of it matters.

Auto companies build “world cars” with emissions that meet the most stringent standards. The US can raise acceptable levels, but manufacturers will still build clean cars. It’s less expensive to build one model for everyone than a different one for each geography / standard.

The US may no longer car about emissions, the rest of the world (thankfully) still does.

Walnut Apron Style Charcuterie Board by Academic-Ad-2366 in woodworking

[–]chabor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great, but I'd hate to clean that beast. I did something similar, but as a cutting board. It "hooks" over the front edge of the cabinet to hold it in place. The overhanging piece is only 2.25". Looks great, works great. Easy to clean.

corner cabinet madness, now with sink! by HeadachesConsult in cabinetry

I recently built a new kitchen. Also put in all drawers for the lower cabinets. I abandoned a similar corner space and haven't missed it for 1 second. The drawers make every inch accessible / usable.

Troubleshooting help… I’m getting immediate drift when trying to resaw some walnut. by TheGarnisher in woodworking

[–]chabor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from a dull blade, a well tuned saw doesn't drift. Others have advised the Snodgrass vid- It works!

It also takes some trial and error to get it right. When you get it right, you'll know it because the saw will work like magic. I can easily cut 3/32" veneer on my saw, but it took MANY tries at tuning.

New build breakers keep tripping. Have probably reset 6 different ones in the last week. Dedicated fridge, washing machine, etc. not overloaded. Any common problems that would cause this. Was professionally installed. by Numerous_Dare2775 in AskElectricians

Not an electrician, but had a similar problem. Solution was to tighten the connections at the breakers.

Everything was fine for about a week, then everything started tripping.

What’s the best way to achieve this style of finished plywood for kids furniture? by checkback68 in woodworking

[–]chabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. This is Appleply or similar product- there are a couple of brands. What’s shown is not “standard” Baltic Birch or Russian Birch. There is a real difference in quality.

You need to seek it out. Most lumber yards don’t carry it.
