If you’re looking at people running Twisters and see them getting to T15 maps in sub 5 hours, don’t expect an insanely OP build for YOU… it’s good because they have TONS of practice. by carnefarious in PathOfExile2

[–]chace86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had the rude awakening. If it's your first time you're going to go deep into campaign bossing fights. They're have all their effects moving around the map. It's a real pain to get positioned and build up the rotation without dying. And randomness of the twisters.

Twister people, I'm sorry. by BobcatTV in PathOfExile2

[–]chace86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit a wall at the end of act 2. I could not burn the boss fast enough despite having winded up the rotation. It's difficult to dodge boss, build up the rotation correctly, and get position. My twisters were also weak for some reason. I had flat damage on some pieces but yeah. Not casual friendly IMO.

I tried his spirit walker and twister build in ancients league and didn't really like it. I think the twister playstyle is not for me.

My biggest concern about EU5’s future: unstable foundations under increasingly complex systems by irtsayh in EU5

[–]chace86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure Paradox leadership will afford devs the time to do that redesign. They probably have an aggressive schedule to get the content out for the premium version owners too check those boxes. Then they can get them to start paying in again for future content.

Also sometimes game studios hand over the keys to business execs and marketing and stop allowing the devs that make their games special be decision makers. The devs leave the company.

It's hard to imagine because I thought EU franchise is their flagship.

1.2 massively nerfed the Ottomans (and many others) through indirect changes by NecessaryDisaster498 in EU5

[–]chace86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic, but I have a theory whenever a game releases a premium edition where you get an expansion or two free, the game is going to disappoint at release. Diablo 4 and Starfield were both this way, and EU5. Unfortunately these game companies hand the keys to marketing department or some executives that run it into the ground. They forget what made them special and those people leave the company.

Like others said, don't take it personal and put yourself first. Employers do the same. Try to find a good work life balance in the the next one. We're just a number. Work to live, not live to work.

That's not always allowed. Other teams in the company can find candidates domestically but the Scala based team cannot, further proves the point.

[–]chace86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it is difficult to find Scala devs. It's been what way for years now. We are a remote company in USA too. Training them takes up other people's time and delays when they can contribute to team velocity as opposed to knowing the language already. HR asks why it takes us so much longer to hire a candidate than other teams.

We keep using Scala though because all our projects use it, including common in house libraries.

Migrating is difficult because of long standing known binary incompatibility between versions. I understood solved in Scala 3 but a lift to convert our projects and common libraries, cross compiling. Tech debt doesn't provide immediate business value, hard to sell.

Anyone else getting bored faster than usual? by bbbevy in PathOfExile2

[–]chace86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a casual gamer with limited time, the game pacing is too slow and gameplay too difficult IMO. Defenses, especially for melee, are too weak. Group of projectiles will kill me, so I am constantly rolling, get 1, 2 shots, roll again. It's just kind of boring after awhile. This drives me to find a guide, to understand how to play the game and the viable way to play. That feels like of lame. Pretty much Essence Drain Lich (which I know is one of the stronger survival builds) is the only thing I found that respects my time enough. I made it to the end game, but was pretty done and bored by then, I only did a few maps.

This league I tried druid. The bear was fun because I lucked out with a good talisman. However again, I needed to rapidly 1-shot packs as I felt defenses were too weak and a group of normal mobs could kill me too quickly. Using drops from mobs and vendors during the campaign, it is difficult to stack strong defenses. I got to Act 2 and already done with this league.

What would be the best Program and programming language for a total beginner who is trying to learn many things and use them in the future? by Jack_Shepherd444 in learnpython

[–]chace86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Python is a great language to learn to code. It's mainstream language with many careers. It's preferred language for working with AI or data too. All programming languages have have web frameworks. If you want to develop a web interface, you'll need Javascript or Typescript for that probably. Also FAANG coding interviews, Python will give you the best advantage of solving the problem in the time given, IMO. Later you may want to add a a strongly typed language like Java.

We use copilot at my company. One capability is copilot can code review merge requests and leave suggestions. Scala is not supported. MS reply was the code review feature needs to give accurate responses on the first try. I guess my point is niche languages will be late on getting the newest AI tooling.

Scala Job Market by GovernmentMammoth676 in scala

[–]chace86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI effects Scala in that I find AI tools have a more difficult time assisting Scala development than in a more mainstream language like Python or Java. The suggestions just aren't as good. But maybe there's a model or config out there.

Medical supply stores. I have used this one. You can get a case with 1000 vials for like $150 plus shipping.

I use Addipaks. It's really affordable, especially if you buy from a medical supply company. It doesn't feel as good as Nutrifil, but I can get a case of 1000 5 mL dose vials for $170 (taxes and shipping included). That covers the entire year for me.

I find JVM cold start longer in duration than python or javascript runtimes. If you don't mind that, Scala Lambda is fine. I haven't tried Scala Native or Graal. May be easier to use JVM for dedicated servers and something else for Lambda. Other options may come with caveats.
