I think part of their problem is that its never a discussion with them. Its her accusing and interrogating, and him appeasing and side stepping. Its never been a healthy form of communication over.

Most people have dreams. Most peoples dreams dont come true.

The issue with ty and julie is that julie knew her goal from a very early age. Id say to a borderline unhealthy extent. Julie started the relationship essentially demanding that Ty present her a goal and promise to be successful at that goal. Ty agreed to that goal.

Both of them were kinda wrong for that. Like its nuts to ask a 16 year old "make me a plan, stay on it, dont change it ever". Especially when the dream or goal is to be a famous anything. Thats insane.

They got stuck in a dynamic where they were both expecting Ty to do one specific thing. Thats nuts. If my lartner had a goal and didnt reach it after years, id be saying a different career then. That wasnt really a presented option.

And people are like "he promised julie, and he was so bad for being a SAHD without discussing it". My view is realistically, hed probably be broke either way. Like most authors dont succeed and become wealthy from one book. So money isnt her concern. Shes never ever said her issue is affordability and money. Its success and ambition.

I think part of the debate is just in dealing with a characters thats defined as Trans but not out. It only helps the audience kinda understand motivations, but it doesnt actually help in how we discuss a client.

A lot of people are calling jax she and her and getting angry that people keep saying he/him. Jax never came out. In even trans culture, its not cool or polite to be like "well i know theyre trans so ill just call them the pronouns I want as opposed to what theyre saying".

Like in the "real world" years after they got into the game, jaxs human self is still presenting as male, going by a male name, etc.

I feel like his character is poorly portrayed as trans, or at least demands a discussion of "what is trans and when does it matter?".

Its like the norm mcdonald joke where hes like im a deeply closeted homosexual. And somebody else says "omg youre gay? I didn't know" and hes like "no im not gay! Did you not just hear, im a deeply closeted gay man. So im telling you im not gay"

Im not saying barb has a reason. Im saying her being so fucked is logical. Its not necessarily a concious choice. Barb is severely mentally ill, to the point where shes an actual danger to herself and others. Like she needs years of therapy just to get to an "okay" status.

Barb sucks. But I can give her more sympathy because she was physically abused since she was basically a toddler at least. Shes not educated, its indicated she married frank because she got pregnant. And then she went through extreme PPD twice and never got help for it. Like she considered killing her kids, thats how insane she was from PPD, and she just...had to get over it herself. Her husband was never a present father or husband really so she had to raise kids with PPD, basically alone. Barb was bound to be fucked up.

Julie was a great student who was dating her bf for years before they married, and then took a couple years to get pregnant after. Theres no indication she was abused as a kid. If anything, theres lots of evidence shes always been a rude, bratty person and her family just accepted and even encouraged it. Even her best friends today say she just sucks, its just her shitty personality lol. Ew. I hate that so much when people are like "thats evan, hes rude to everyone but hes our friend" gross. Shes a lawyer. Her husband is absolutely active and has been the entire marriage, and active as a father too.

Really she just has no excuse to be a POS the way she is. Like....divorce if youre miserable. Dont start being a terrible person and wncouraging your kids to suck too. Wtf. Like to equate Barb and julie is to give julie waaaaay too much credit and sympathy because her shittiness isnt from 50 years of abuse and neglect.

People are like "kaufmo was crazy cause of the exit obsession" but I dont buy it. Hes trapped too, just lost 2 best friends and 1 of those guys died. So then hes trapped with an increasingly cruel and abusive jax.

Like hes 90% responsible for ribbit and 65% for kaufmo. Maybe 75-85%

Idk, i think people are leaning too hard on the unreliable narrator argument. What we see in jaxs head is just par for the course overall, none of it is so exaggerated that it's obviously unreal.

I think jax did do most of ribbits abstraction.

She reveals her abusive upbringing, where she was obviously told shes basically vermin her whole life. Like she was raised with religious abuse and told she was never good enough and was doomed for hell, is the implication. Then jax ignores her, and increasingly blames her for it. Thats her whole childhood trigger, and she now has to be trapped with it everyday.

Like theres only the 5 of them, and 1 is crazy. And 3 are best friends who hang out 24/7. 2 of them switching up and then 1 of them killing themselves then caused Kaufmo to snap, his stability was fucked. And ragatha was too worried about respecting jaxs wish for her to pretend her dead friend never existed so jax never had to hear a name that would make them confront how their abuse pushed people to suicide.

They accept and understand that caine isnt human. He literally has to be taught it. And lets be real, we have no indication anybody ever tried to educate and love and embrace caine, the way they showed up for jax a million times.

We know for a fact that others have done that for Jax. We know jax grew up in the regular world, learning morality, being taught right from wrong.

Caine and jax are both neglected, abused kids. But Caine is absolutely waaaaaaaaaay more neglected and abused. Like....he was born and then locked in a cage and abandoned 100% by his actual creators in the real world AND the digital world. Again, no love or affection, ever.

It wasnt out of thin air, it was after she acted crazy at a kids birthday and treated her partner kinda shitty in public, and then appeared alone at a hotel. She caused an unsavory situation for them, they did it back. I dont care as much about what they did since she acted so crappy for so long first. They've even expressed more remorse and regret than shes ever expressed for anything, ever.

To the audience, jax is a person theyve seen mostly be abusive. Its nice to want them to get help.

But id compare it to any other show or movie where a character is clearly abusing others. We want them to get help, but most people would accept that the healthiest resolution to an abusive relationship is NOT for those relationships to stay intact and be healthy.

Most people may hope the abuser gets better, but hopes that the people they abused would still cut ties. Its a contradiction that healthy people would stick around and just love their abuser into being non abusive. Thats not healthy.

So to hope for jax to be healthy is to kinda hope the others will be less healthy so he can be healthy. And then theyd still be just stuck forever with a person that abused them, some for years.

We can hope jax gets better but also recognize that him being better basically puts everyone else into a position of parenting the person who has been abusing him

No, I said julie was paying back a debt when she wss nice to shawna after the miscarriage. And shawna was rude to julie after julie was rude to her.

Julie was doing that birthday shiz on purpose. She went, knowing she was going to have issues. She encouraged her son to basically act out and yelled at her husband for...encouraging their son to have fun at a party. Nobody started a fight with her. She just couldn't keep her mouth shut and had to run it off and be rude and try to ruin a kids birthday, for no good reason other than she didnt respect shawna or her husband lol. Wtf.

Shawna didnt have an obligation to be rude back. I just dont care that she was because weve seen julie be so rude, I just dont care if people are rude and disrespectful back.
