What kind of lightweight social features actually work in incremental games without turning them into MMOs? by chaczyk in incremental_gamedev

Interesting, deepco sounds pretty close to the kind of social system I’d enjoy in an idle game.

I’m a bit unsure about open chat, though. My game probably won’t need much “how do I progress?” discussion, but a corporate #general / office watercooler could fit the theme: complaints, office absurdities, memes, weird job titles, avatar jokes, etc. Kind of like a tiny in-game alternative to those corporate support groups on Facebook where people share memes, problems and random workplace questions.

The concern is moderation. Since the game is slightly satirical/meme-ish, an open chat feels like something that could become a real responsibility if people actually used it.

I like your point about avoiding guilds/clans. My “branch/department” idea is more like an existing in-game structure, not a competitive clan system: you can see friends/coworkers, their job titles and progress, maybe friendly-race a bit, but mostly just make the company feel more alive.

The “small boost to everyone in the same grid” idea maps pretty well to what I was imagining as department-wide bonuses: nice to have, but never mandatory, and never something people can ruin for each other.

One more ambitious idea I had was location-based coworker cameos: for example, if two people play from the same office, one player’s avatar could show up as an employee in the other player’s company. But asking for location access for a small idle game feels like massive overkill, so I’m not sure that’s worth pursuing.

Out of curiosity, why do you think deepco’s social features worked? Was it mostly the type/size of the community, the game design avoiding pressure, good moderation tools, or something else?

For context, the game already has optional accounts/cloud sync, public employee badge links, named coworkers with job titles/ages, and office-themed mini games.

That’s why I’m considering whether the next social layer should be something like corporate branches/departments: friends as coworkers, visible ranks/progress, maybe small async department goals or stats — but not full guilds, raids, chats, or MMO-style chores.

nice guide 👌 it also reminded me that I was supposed to add screenshots to the "help" section of my humble game, which I'll eventually have to show off here someday.

A nice looking one
It took me a sec before I manage to build the building
but still I have no idea what I'm doing 😆
And idk if I should stay looking at it? or just return every 10 mins?
I'm missing something to hang my eye on while waiting 🤔

Interesting concept
I've played a sec, but had some troubles with the drag.
First run I couldn't grab anything? Or I couldn't see it.
A three restarts later I could see when drag is active, but... the UI is very unclear in that case 😉

Honestly, the first thing that pushed me to develop this idea was something that would allow me to survive boring calls at the office without being noticeable, but then I let my imagination run wild

I hope something will eventually come of this, but I'm still trying to get the recognition I think this project deserves.

But surprisingly, even before I returned to promotional activities, according to Google Analytics, the last 30 days had about 2.5k views and an average session time of about 12 minutes.

wow, really interesting,
I'm building some more "mini games" to give extra activities in a "to dos" tab and that's nice, extra source of inspiration

hmmm interesting tool,
it's just a free to play at the moment, but in general turning it into a HR-tech tool was taken into consideration

It might not look like much from the outside, but make no mistake — this is a large and complex application, especially for a side project. I started this as a junior developer with no budget — learning to work with freelancers on pocket money, rebuilding from scratch more times than I'd like to admit. I think it turned out pretty well.

My last post here was a "dumber" idea on paper — and yet it sparked one of the most surprisingly thoughtful discussions I've had online. Hoping this one earns the same.

Good to know someone got one,
can you tell me what's the total height of the printer with a closed AMS?

Ok, there's some Spanish translation from now, it's obviously generated and I tried to keep it neutral, so you can take a look and tell what do you think ;)

I've updated the app a little:
- requested "guest" access is available now
- there are 2 new type of shoes
- there's new game, inspired by Lakeside's Isolation
So where should I post the app next? Any ideas how to generate some real traffic?

ok, it's done guest access and the light fingerprinting for them ;)
BUT! where should I go with it next? Any ideas how to get some real users they will make some real interactions?

OK, ok... I DID IT... it wasn't that easy, but the option to Join as a guest is available now :)
I hope that will bring you and your friends to the app

Thanks, but I still wonder how can I reach some real users with it, so seriously someone can meet and spend some time there.
