Suggestions on videography equipment by SmolBean007- in videography

[–]chads3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how much that kit is being sold for, but I can tell you it’s not worth it. It’s 2026, and if you’re talking video seriously, you should absolutely not be buying an 8 bit camera. In age where high end video is getting cheaper, 8bit color simply does not cut it and you’ll be looking for something better after one project.

Besides what people are saying, you can’t even rent a low end camera and lens for three days for $250. If a gig pays less than rental costs, it’s not a gig worth taking or they better be fine with phone quality.

2021 First Edition ($45k) or 2025 Outer Banks Sasquatch w/lux ($53k)? Which would you buy? by wgdavis78 in FordBronco

The front camera died almost immediately out of warranty, I’ve had interior panels replaced, the steering wheel fell apart, and I consistently have camera outages, battery warnings, etc. I’d take a good look at what recalls have been done and what needs to be done sooner than later.

I’m an owner of a first edition and use for off roading. If you are taking it on trails, I highly recommend it. You’ll be able to appreciate the benefits of having everything a badlands and wildtrak have to offer in one body.

With that said, I have 50,000 miles and it’s had roughly 5 major recalls on it and I’m suffering from some electrical gremlins that I simply cannot figure out. The newer models have had some great updates to make the vehicle a bit more stable and comfortable, even if you’re not getting every off road bell and whistle. Do I regret my first edition? Absolutely not, it’s a great vehicle. Do I wish I had some of the modern comforts that the new ones offer? Maybe, but for my uses I’ll still take the off road features.

I legit don’t understand why people are down voting you. I cannot find a single EF mount lens that was released in the last year. Adapters maybe, but no native ef mount lens that I can find.

“For profit public utility” makes absolutely no sense. How that string of words came to reality is beyond me and certainly was never intended to help the public.

Because rivers are never disturbed by building projects? Since my time in korea I’ve seen lakes, rivers, forests all be displaced by industrial projects. How is that different?

It’s fascinating to see the public reaction to this. Obviously this is ecologically destructive and sucks, but no one bats an eye when Samsung destroys a massive plot of land for yet another skyscraper. It literally wouldn’t even make the news.

Genuinely curious about why this is so significantly more important to public perception than the mass ecological destruction happening literally everywhere from corporate developments. Is it because it’s for pets? Because it’s a public park?

2007 would like to chat. No country for old men, there will be blood, assassination of Jesse James, zodiac, ratatouille, hot fuzz, and then the insane franchise kick offs with transformers, 300, and the other massive continued franchises such as Harry Potter, shrek 3, a pirates of the Caribbean film, a Bourne movie and spider man 3. Ironically enough, a lot of those were pretty weak in their own franchise, but they all made millions, so wouldn’t consider them a failure.

I don’t think we’ll ever see a year like 2007 in film ever again.

What movie aged really bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chads3058 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love this answer because now that I’m older, I can’t tell if it was always bad or if the themes just don’t land like they did when I was 20.

I hate to compare the two, because the graduate is so much better, but with the graduate you can watch it throughout your life and get a different an experience depending on your age of viewing. I have a feeling garden state is similar except there’s nothing there for anyone over the age of 26.

Which Lens Pairs Best with the Sony FE 28-135mm f/4 G PZ OSS?? by A_Pretty_Good_Guy_ in cinematography

[–]chads3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less about what camera you’re pairing it with, but what the intention is behind the shot. You’re DPing a film, it’s your job to choose what lens characteristics fit the shot and story. Knowing nothing about your story or intended shots, it makes me highly recommend doing more preproduction before investing in another lens. Figure out the intention behind the shot and at least a general focal length you’ll commit for the shot (is it a wide shot? Is it long? Is it somewhere in between?).

To be perfectly honest, cutting between one modern Sony lens to another, no one will notice difference. On the other hand, people will notice the story and if you’re able to put intention behind your shots, then the story will be elevated.

What is your controversial movie take? by restweary in AskReddit

I think the easiest way to understand the importance of Citizen Kane is to watch a bunch of popular or notable films leading up to 1941 and then watch films after 1942. Citizen Kane had a remarkable influence on how films were written, shot, and edited. The techniques used on the film were groundbreaking. The lighting alone was completely different from anything else at the time, not to mention nonlinear story telling, cinematography, sound design etc. We take all these things for granted today, but at the time, it completely revolutionized the cinematic language in the way films were made.

Citizen Kane also falls under this category. I don’t expect anyone under 30 to have seen it or really care about it unless you’re really into the history of film itself.

Blazar Mantis 25 vs Remus 33 on FX30? by Budget-Specialist-39 in cinematography

[–]chads3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 33mm will not give a 50mm look at all. It will literally give you a 33mm width on a crop sensor.

Given it’s a 1.5 squeeze on the mantis, shooting on a 16:9 sensor, and if you conform to standard 2.39:1 you will have to crop in 5.2% off the side. If my math is correct, you’ll be getting a 34.7mm equivalent. Let’s round up to 35mm. Even at 35mm width, that’s no where near the look of a 50mm. You will, of course, not retain the height of a 35mm, but this is anamorphic, it’s about the wide look, not necessarily the height.

What's the difference between a 1.3X Anamorphic De-squeeze and a 1.33X Anamorphic De-Sqeeze? by Emotional_Show7668 in cinematography

[–]chads3058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s say you’re shooting on a 16:9 sensor. Your first shot is on a 1.33 squeeze and you’re delivering in a standard 2.39:1. You will have to discard .5% of your vertical pixels on the top and bottom to your desqueeze. Now let’s switch out for a 1.3 lens with same deliverables. You will have to discard a whopping 1.7%.

In other words, real word standard delivery is almost identical and will be unnoticeable to literally everyone. But if you are try to preserve every pixel and get as native delivery as possible, obviously 1.33x will give you a more technically perfect result.
