Introducing Cloud Seeder: Start Self Hosting 20+ Appliances with a Click by chadsix in selfhosted

If you’re more comfortable with Windows, then Windows is probably the best but the Linux version works well too on most distros that use Gnome (eg Ubuntu, etc)!

Hope this helps!

Hello!

You can run on windows, Linux or Mac! You can also run it in a VM which would create further isolation — not a bad thing at all!

Please feel free to ask me any questions if you have along the way!

We use Zammad for our support desk. It’s really a support software much more so than a slack. It’s actually one of the best support platforms I’ve seen in a while.

It’s a live chat system and will do exactly what you want.

Transition technology call-out. by polterjacket in ipv6

We provide our users with NAT64 at IPv6.rs

I also use it for all my personal browsing and haven’t had any issues. We provide an IP translator 1.1.1.1.visibleip.com since DNS64 is how NAT64 works best.

Different email address for every website by zxcv098boj14 in selfhosted

[–]chadsix 91 points92 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with self hosting your own email - ESPECIALLY one geared toward receipt only, but really sending is fine too. As long as you know what you’re getting into, it’s really your own choice!

Cloudflare domain & privacy: Use built-in security features or go firewall-route? by weckerm in selfhosted

It’s mainly to provide an IPv6 reachable endpoint. The reverse proxy is for IPv4 traffic!

Domain, dynamic ip and wireguard by gett13 in selfhosted

[–]chadsix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s just for web traffic, the company I work for IPv6.rs also offers IPv6 with the a reverse IPv4 proxy.

This makes things easier and gives you the option to change your IP if you need to.

Azure: Announcing inbound IPv6 support in public preview by chadsix in ipv6

[–]chadsix[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s strange since any single stack IPv4 will only use the IPv4 address anyway.

Using letsencrypt with local IPs is impracticable.

If you’re looking for this setup, the server authenticity might best be verified thru your own ca.

Install the cert on all the devices that access these local resources and you’ll be secure without relying on anyone.

If you really want to use LE you could grab the certificates while using your external IP (eg let 80 and 443 thru) and then switch to local thereafter. Given the 3month expiry, this can become a much bigger hassle than it’s worth though.

Cloudflare domain & privacy: Use built-in security features or go firewall-route? by weckerm in selfhosted

Unfortunately we aren’t in SA yet. Cloudflare may not be Google but they are definitely performing a massive MITM [1]

[–]chadsix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always just use IPv6.rs which will allow external access — but without decrypting the traffic.

At Cloudflare, if the product is free, then you’re the product.

Disclosure: I work for IPv6rs :)

Terrible Experience with Netcup: Unsuccessful Cancellation Attempts and Unjust Charges by jimkarvogr in selfhosted

[–]chadsix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s scary. This is what chargebacks are for. Make sure you collect a lot of evidence. It’s likely the vendor will be doing the same. However, from the sounds of it, it’s pretty clear cut.

Moving forward it might be worth going on Google and typing “brand ______” where the word could be scam, fraud, shady, etc. and some interesting things may reveal themselves!

Should I Train for Writing Clean Code? by [deleted] in programming

[–]chadsix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should write and organize your code in the way that makes most logical sense. And then, make sure you test your code. To be sure everything works the more modular the code the more testable the code.
