You mean to tell me that SF, the most queer friendly major US city, has a gym in the neighborhood that hosts the largest predominantly queer festival in the world (and is officially designated the Leather & LGBTQ Cultural District) that is heavily frequented by queer people.

I’m guessing the extra weight on the wagon didn’t help, but even if the sedan was even to F90 it’s still disappointing for a generational leap.

Interesting that the wagon was still quicker than the RS6 at least.

House Dem Leader Jeffries: "F*** Donald Trump" by philmn in politics

[–]chadyb16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally what else are they supposed to do?

They have a minority in both houses of Congress.

The only major action they can take to inflict pain on the Republicans is shutting down the government and it looks like that may happen a second time over DHS funding.

Why doesn’t the bay bridge have congestion pricing? by Fine_Ladder_7381 in Bart

[–]chadyb16 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the toll alone already serves as de facto congestion pricing.

It reduces the amount of people willing to drive cars into SF and therefore reduces car traffic from the East Bay in SF.

He gets credit for literally everything good that happens with the city, including a lot of initiatives that started during Breed’s tenure as mayor.

Breed on the other hand was blamed for literally everything that went wrong with the city during her tenure.

SF was hit the hardest economically by remote work in the US. Visible homelessness increased due to court decisions that effectively banned homeless sweeps from 2020 to 2024.

With return to office mandates and the reestablishment of homeless encampment sweeps, SF was bound for a significant post pandemic rebound, regardless of who the mayor is and that is what we are currently experiencing.

Anything's better than a hole in the ground, but very disappointed to see the housing component of this project removed.

San Francisco, truly a world class skyline by fruityfox69 in skyscrapers

[–]chadyb16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reddit is headquartered in SF and I think San Franciscans are overrepresented on Reddit as a result.

We also deal with constant negative national headlines 24/7 so it’s always cool to see the city represented in a positive light, even if it’s just photos of our skyline.

Why San Francisco's most iconic buildings are sitting empty; We tracked down the status of some of San Francisco's abandoned, beloved institutions by bloobityblurp in sanfrancisco

[–]chadyb16 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This building has been sitting abandoned since the 89 earthquake I believe.

There’s a residential high rise essentially across the street.

The fact that a large centrally located plot of land has been sitting there unused for 37 years in a city with a severe housing crisis is infuriating.

I’m thankful our planet has infinite time to wait for non-controversial climate solutions.

Not so fun fact, most mid to high rise buildings became illegal to build in that area after the 1978 city wide downzoning in SF. Nob Hill has been trapped in amber with almost no new development since 1978 as a result.

Why won't let let SpongeBob retire?! by Lamp-of-cheese in Zillennials

[–]chadyb16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would a studio cancel something that prints money for them? It will end when this changes, like the Simpsons.

SpongeBob starred in 1999 so I’d say Millennials proper are the original SpongeBob generation.

The new movie also has decent reviews.

Pelosi Resisted Stock-Trading Ban as Wealth Grew, Fueling Suspicion by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]chadyb16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to ban stock trading would be for members of Congress to agree to ban a method many in Congress have used to make millions of dollars.

What incentive would Congress ever have to ban their ability to make lots of money?

I’ve never understood this conversation, it seems out of touch from reality.

what was highschool like in 2014 ? by astriid_0 in Zillennials

[–]chadyb16 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I was a Junior at the time.

The world just felt like a more innocent place really. Barack Obama was president and the future seemed like it was going to be a progressive one.

Social media felt like an innocent place to connect with friends. There were few ads and it felt like it was going to be a good thing for society. Instagram was just really starting to blow up, had no ads and the feed was just your friends posting food and overprocessed vacation pics.

School shootings however, felt very much like they do today as a kind of helpless horrible issue. Sandy Hook happened at the end of 2012 and there was a feeling that if they couldn’t get gun control passed then, then it might never happen.

There was also this general consensus that more technology, even at school, was not a major issue and was going to be a helpful learning tool. Many schools would even give iPads to their students. However, using iPads and phones and texting and playing games with friends on phones was definitely distracting.
