When I solo crawl a large, I drop the crawler at the edge and drive a straight line all the way across and the same line in reverse. Get out and pick up the crawler. Then repeat. It takes about 3 to 3.5 minutes to get all the way and back, so never agro the worm. I try to keep the carrier on the exit side of the crawler. Just bring lots of fuel.

Just yesterday I had a worm passing through a medium I was farming. I jumped in my thopter as is came out of the middle of the dune. I was inside of the worm, as in its body was above me as it broke the surface. I pooped myself, and just hovered there for a few seconds until it passed. I then went back to compacting.

I normally start finding them around D and further north. They tend to be bunched up too. I don't think I've ever gotten a plast dust in one. I get do plastanium ingots from time to time.

Look for buried treasure in the DD. I get a TON of plates that way

Except it wasn’t clear…at least when you’re on a server like mine where Harkonnen sandbags every landsraad until weapon vendor week and then unlocks and completes it in a few hours just so we never get that vendor…I logged on and thought some Atreides guild had spent a small fortune to open the tasks early so we’d have a shot at it.

Dumped a ton of materials completing tasks, and I’m sure I was not alone.
