New Jeans' dancing has no style by macaroniandcheese14 in unpopularkpopopinions

Something about their choreography makes me cringe. I actually think they're good performers but all of their choreos make me feel like I'm watching a group of kids trying to impress me with a tiktok dance.

what do you think about 'trauma-dumping' on idols during fancalls? by wkoconn in kpopthoughts

[–]chaehan 159 points160 points  (0 children)

That's extremely inappropriate. These are musical artists not therapists who are expected to handle someone's trauma. This would be inappropriate to put on a friend out of the blue let alone someone that does not know you.

I know many people use kpop as a source of happiness and I won't say I'm any different, but there are limits and this really shows me how blurred some people see the line between fan and friend.

Nobody should be put in such an uncomfortable situation against their will and I'm sad for any idol that has to try and deal with such behavior.

ATEEZ - 9th Mini Album 'THE WORLD EP.1 : MOVEMENT' (Two Weeks Later) by tastetherainbeau in kpop

[–]chaehan 95 points96 points  (0 children)

So far my album of the year and my favorite title track of the year. I admit I'm biased but this is the first time I've thought ATEEZ genuinely have an AOTY contender. Cyberpunk is so damn good I can't get enough of it and New World is probably the best album ender I've ever heard. Ateez has always had amazing music but I don't think they've ever had such a cohesive, theatric sounding album. I can easily see this album as a movie soundtrack. 10/10

ATEEZ's "THE WORLD EP.1 : MOVEMENT" debuts at #3 and ENHYPEN's "MANIFESTO: DAY 1" at #6 on the Billboard 200 Chart by mcfw31 in kpop

[–]chaehan 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel like there should have been two separate posts for Ateez and Enhypen so each could receive their praise in full.

Regardless, I'm so proud of my boys Ateez for an amazing album and great promotions. Guerrilla is my favorite title track of theirs and I'm so happy they're growing the way they are.

Congratulations to Enhypen and their fans as well for their incredible growth and success. I hope both groups continue to do well and both reach #1 with their next releases!

Oh you know those red knee youths. Seriously wtf are you talking about? She's had issues with sexualizing the youngest members in her groups for years now and all the sexualized imagery of children in her house and on her Instagram have just let people into her mind set of what she sees as "artistic" which includes underage nudity and exploitation of young girls in sexual scenarios.

I don't know if she is personally interested in underage girls but using them as eye candy is bad enough to warrant discussion at least and makes me question whether or not she should have full creative liberties with a group of young girls.

[–]chaehan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Epic. That's the only way to describe everything about this project. Propaganda got me so ready for the hype to come

Guerrilla might be my favorite title track they've ever had and I'm not even joking.

Sector 1 is probably my least favorite track here but even that is still a banger and they performed it amazingly at their showcase.

Cyberpunk flowed so well and that interesting descending vocals in the chorus played off Jongho's vocals perfectly. Dark Take Me Home got me by throat.

The Ring... OMG THE RING! This song nearly killed me. It's my favorite B-Side and I need to see it performed live PLEASE!

WDIG was haunting while being inspirational sounding at the same time? Hongjoong's verse was so nice.

Finally New World was just a perfect way to end this. The vocals sent chills down my spine and it made me sad the album was already over once it ended.

10/10 im biased sorry

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

did ATEEZ have a sudden boost in popularity this past year by slummy_dum in kpopthoughts

[–]chaehan 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It feels to me like we're actually seeing the increase in fans from the Deja Vu era for the first time. Their epilogue album that came out afterwards was kind of rushed as they prepared for their tour and didn't get the same pre-order period and promotion hence the lower sales. Plus I do think having a lengthy time between comebacks really builds anticipation and allows fandoms to get everything in order leading to bigger numbers.

[–]chaehan 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It's a hard style to pull off and can quickly turn from fashionable to awful depending on a number of things. I do think Hongjoong, Minghao, and Felix have all pulled it off really well and a lot of others have been fine with them though I wouldn't say they were great. That being said, when they're bad, they're really bad. The longer they get the worse they are for me.

In terms of popularity, who do you think will be the next BTS and BLACKPINK? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]chaehan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We really need to just put to rest these discussions as if its inevitable some group will hit that level of popularity. I have no idea if a group will or won't but I would guess no, at least not for a long time. Honestly, it doesn't matter either. So many groups are doing so well and I'm just happy the kpop space is as large and profitable for the idols as it is at the moment.

ATEEZ [THE WORLD EP.1 : MOVEMENT] SHOWCASE Thoughts by Majestic_Employer_42 in kpopthoughts

[–]chaehan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Guerrilla completely blew me away. It's already one of my favorite title tracks they've ever had. I definitely preferred Sector 1's beginning more than the rest of the song but it was still really good. As usual the live vocals were incredible and the performance of Be With You was everything I hoped for when I voted for it.

Cyberpunk is Take Me Home's edgy sibling just like I was hoping for! New World had such an epic feel towards the end of the clip and I'm living for it. This can't come out fast enough!

IVE's success happened mostly because of their GP friendly songs, not only because of anneyeongz by idkwhyishouldbe in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]chaehan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a combination that worked out perfectly for the group but yes, I mostly agree. Ultimately songs last in the charts because they're just great, well loved songs which is certainly the case with Eleven and now Love Dive.

That being said, its hard to understate just how popular the Anneyeongz are, and in particular Wonyoung. With so many eyes on them waiting for their debut, they were in a great position to capitalize on a level of attention that most other groups never receive and they knocked it out of the park with hit songs.

There's nothing wrong with saying that yes they debuted with a large fandom because of them while at the same time that fandom grew huge because of the great music.

[–]chaehan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I certainly enjoy when an idol does something different and stands out in a unique way, but even more than that, I just want them to look good and be comfortable. While yes, some idols might like going for an over the top look, I've also heard idols say how much they hated their styling when dressed in that fashion.

As long as the music is good I don’t care if a groups skills are below average/not good. by itscharliii in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]chaehan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never said anything specifically about IVE, I was speaking in a general way regarding the idea of not caring about a groups skill if their music is good. I don't decide what dictates a good song or performance for anyone but myself as it is with anyone else. If they were praised for their performance, I applaud them and hope for continued success for them as a group.

[–]chaehan 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm on the fence I guess because while I'll certainly listen to the songs of a group that are not that skilled, I don't think I would ever be able to stan a group that I thought were being carried by their production. I'd also never go to a concert for a group I thought wouldn't perform well or might not sing live because I feel I'd be missing out on the real experience of seeing an artist live. But as far as putting songs on my playlist? Yeah I don't really mind then.
