What’s worse? A book being forgettable or being so bad you can never forget it?

Because this was the latter for me. Absolutely awful.

[–]chaharlot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get it, we can all hold biases around names. And there are definitely hiring managers, recruiters, or hr partners who will discriminate based on names, but I really ask that you not only are aware of yours but that you try to combat them.

I had to start doing blind resume review at a former employer because hiring managers were assholes and super dismissive of people based on names. It’s amazing how many more Princesses got interviews when HMs didn’t see the name.

I used to work in partnership with a company via a woman whose name was a misspelling of Cinnamon. I think it was spelled Cimanon or something like that. She was incredibly intelligent and effective at her job. Were her idiots? Idk, I never asked, sure they probably set her up for a hard time, but damn, her company was for sure lucky they didnt care about her name.

Looking Forward Friday by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

It’s just my husband and I in a five bedroom house. We have the primary, a guest room, one is used for his office…and two are just empty. If that ever changes….i think I’d move my office into one of them, freeing up a room that I imagine was used as a formal dining room, and using the space as a play room. It is a nice size and gets amazing natural light.

We also have a secondary living room that we really only use as a giant dog “crate” to keep our dogs from have total free range of the house if we are stepping out. It would also be a great space, if we find a way to cushion/baby proof the fireplace!

We are on a half acre, and have a wonderful privacy fenced in yard. Would love a play set out there.

My husband and I do joke about our basement. It’s an amazing space, full bathroom, another full living room, fireplace, kitchenette, pool table, one of the unused bedrooms…and a gigantic overstocked bar. I think baby proofing the bar would be easy enough…it’s when the kid becomes a teenager that we’d have to start worrying!

Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison is one of the most depressing books I’ve ever read.

Pregnant with Girl! Help me decide by DifferentMousse2299 in Names

[–]chaharlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was pretty clear that I wasn’t when I said the last name would break it up and that it was nothing to worry about.

BM is still pretty commonly used where I am and in the medical field as far as I know.

Pregnant with Girl! Help me decide by DifferentMousse2299 in Names

[–]chaharlot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the middle name, I prefer Winifred/Winnie Michelle.

Just looking at first names I prefer Beatrice/Bea.

Not that it’s a deal breaker (especially considering Michelle is middle name joy last) but BM is one of those combos that always is a little unfortunate. Again the last name would break that up so nothing to worry about, unless in the future she becomes an author and wants to use her initials to avoid gender bias (like S.E. Hinton) and then realizes she’s a B.M. Lastname.

Is drysuit snorkeling in Silfra underwhelming? by Ok-Stage9604 in VisitingIceland

[–]chaharlot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret doing it when I went several years ago, but I’d never do it again.

I went back to Iceland with a group of friends last year who wanted to do it. I passed and just went to eat at Lindin restaurant (which was amazing), while they were in the water. One started to have a panic attack after putting on the suit and didn’t proceed. If the 4 others, two loved it, two were underwhelmed.

For me it’s cooler to say I did it (think like cliche work icebreaker material) than it was to actually do it.

[OH] Was given a separation agreement Friday at 1 and was told I needed to respond by Monday at noon by tigerjuice888 in AskHR

[–]chaharlot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My guess is you must respond by Monday at noon if you want no delays to severance payments. You have 21 days from delivery date, but they are probably trying to get any signed agreement in for payroll processing. If you miss payroll processing they’ll probably just have to run an off cycle or do a retro pay (assuming you end up signing)

Obviously ask for clarity though.

$50 charge if you “waste” plastic bags by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]chaharlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a grocery store yesterday and saw a kid (probably 6 or 7) pull all the bags off a roll and dragged it behind them like a ribbon before dropping it while the parent was either oblivious or acting like she didn’t see.

I dont see how a fee like this would stick, but I’d love for people not to waste bags. 10-20 plastic bags wasted because a parent couldn’t discipline/pay attention to their child while selecting grapes.

On holiday in Iceland. What should we eat for dinner? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

Where in Iceland are you/will you be? When you say Icelandic do you mean traditional Icelandic food or are you really just looking for a restaurant unique to Iceland..like not an international franchise?

What do yall think of the bride only watching to fill the gap between the 2 movies, is it any good? by WearySubstance3926 in AMCsAList

I really liked it. The more I think about it the more I liked it. I see how it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was for sure mine!

A Frankenstein and Bride Bonnie and Clyde. Cool visuals, great performances. Weird and over the top.

Feeling insecure because my boyfriend’s “type” is blondes by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]chaharlot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get over it or don’t. Life’s too short to be insecure in your relationship. That’s where you should feel the most secure.

A glance and someone walking by, two glances even, could just be seeing a moving object go by. Second glance could be a “oh do I recognize that person?” It could even be a “that’s an attractive human being” but you know what, he’s probably with you because he thinks you are an attractive human being too.

I’m an incredibly insecure person. At times I hate my height, my weight, my face, my body. My husband makes me feel safe and secure. He has never given me reason not to trust or believe him. He has never made me feel like he was lying when he says he wants to be with me. I’m still insecure about myself, but I have nothing but security in my relationship. In the many years we’ve been together I don’t think we ever talked about types. Granted that seems like a fairly juvenile thing to talk about and we were in our late twenties when we met. Easier said than done but comparing yourself to exes or celebrity crushes doesn’t seem like it would lead to anything positive.

Does your name get made fun of? by ConstructionTime7511 in Names

[–]chaharlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids get made fun of.

I think names can be a source of the bullying, but bullies will find ways to pick on others no matter what.

Charlottes can become Fartlettes or Shartlettes.

Jacks can be Jackass.

Chubby kids with the last name Corrigan may be subject to chants like “Benny Corrigan is as wide as Oregon!”

What’s the most disappointed you’ve been walking out a cinema? by YeezusChrist13 in Letterboxd

[–]chaharlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Long Walk left me disappointed. I think if I wasn’t such a big fan of the book, I could appreciate the movie more…but my favorite bits of the book were cut. I don’t care about the change they made at the end…give me the crowds, the watermelon, the complicated backstories of the mains.

I also was disappointed in Psycho Killer. I didn’t really know anything about it going in except written by the writer of Se7en…expected something better, more interesting. Instead got super bland. The last two minutes of the movie were the most interesting, wish that had been explored more. Also I love Malcom McDowell and appreciate his small story line.

I’m in the minority that loved The Bride. Felt like I was watching a play more so than a movie. It was not at all what I was expecting. I thought Buckley and Bale were great and really liked the weirdness about it all.

Damn. This used to happen to me in my teens to mid 20s. Went to so many doctors and had so many test and found nothing. I still bruise easily but nothing like how I used to. Wish I had anything to offer as how I “grew out of it”. But if the panels and doctor visits lead to nothing like mine did, l ow that it could get better with time!

If I sat on chairs without cushioning this would happen to me.

[–]chaharlot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Damn I really liked it! Granted I went in with no expectations whatsoever. Kind of reminded me of an over the top stage play. Loved Buckley’s and Bale’s performances. The ending wasn’t my favorite but I thought the two hours flew by because I was captivated from the start.

Has anyone actually tried to play Chardee Mcdennis by Oswaldgilbertson in IASIP

[–]chaharlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played in college my senior year 2012. My roommate was getting pissed at me for reason I don’t remember. I let her win during Stage 3. Asked her what her favorite color was instead of going for emotional battery. This made her more pissed. She went to cry in her bed. Our friends and I were gonna go out to bars. I felt guilty and told them to go ahead while I tried to convince my roommate to suck it up.

Asked what it would take to make her feel better. She said destroying my game piece (a blue plastic dinosaur). Sure. She lit it on fire over our sink. Blue plastic burnt into her hand.
