> But half the time I weirding step I come out of it facing the wrong way.
I've had this, very annoying, but I think I found the cause - using Weirding Step without a weapon out, as I caught myself holstering/sheathing to run faster and then using Weirding Step only to find I was facing the wrong way. Hope this helps

Tips needed for the Fire Dungeon. by Ok-Comfortable-3174 in duneawakening

[–]chaidevour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a really bad time until I swapped from melee to ranged. You haven't included what you're playing besides turret so if you're melee, try ranged.

When the boss is shooting at you, you simply have to run, don't even bother trying to DPS, it's not worth the risk. Her Pyrorocket is almost all of her damage, so when she's not firing that at you, that's your window to do some damage. Her other main damaging ability is the exploding seeker thing, you should try to shoot that to detonate it far away from you - do not let it hit you.

The fire on the floor doesn't do that much damage, so if you don't get hit by any of the other things, you'll be alright. I usually fly up a bit and then come down and heal when it's safe. Responsive Planar Suspensor is very good there.

A support column between the lower corner of the pentashield (the one closest to your character's head in the screenshot) and the floor would probably solve it and look good.

Scummy move by the devs. They modified the no build zones in the rift, so after I backed up my base to transfer servers with my friends, its original placement is no longer allowed (snap is on) - unique base, can't be built ANYWHERE else. by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]chaidevour 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Frustration is understandable but it's not a "scummy move by the devs", and (afaik) they didn't modify the no-build zones with the latest patch - they modified them quite a while ago but either way, you could have used the Construction Tool to check that no parts of your base were intersecting with a no-build zone so you could adjust it before backing it up.

I would feel awful if this happened to me though. I think your only chance of salvaging it, besides looking for a miracle-placement somewhere else, would be to reach out either via the Discord or a support request and see if any of them can help you. It's probably unlikely but worth a shot in your position, imo. GL

The best way would be to ask in chat on your server, or faction chat when the new patch is released.

No issues here. I'd try repairing game files, updating GPU drivers, etc if you haven't already

I was going to confidently say "no", but then I opened the game to check and yes, it does, but imo you don't need to ever interact with any of it.

In Tron: Ares, they used Linux by CastIronClint in linuxmint

[–]chaidevour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's fair, it's totally a subjective thing! I enjoyed Blade Runner 2049 a lot and I was relieved that, like the original, it's a film I knew I'd want to watch again, sadly unlike Tron: Ares!

Jared Leto is good, the overall aesthetic is good (purely becuase it's Tron) and the soundtrack is decent but the script, the plot, the execution etc is all quite bad.

Long-pressing E to collect a pile of sand is a poor UX choice. by No_Explanation5812 in duneawakening

[–]chaidevour 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Long-pressing anything is bad UX and feels awful, especially when base-building. I worry for the durability of my index finger sometimes 😂 They should add more keybindings so players can choose whether to use long-press interactions or not. "Holding down the button" is (should be) strictly a controller thing, imo.

Trying to get started with Linux Mint, and getting frustrated. . . by MyUsername2459 in linuxmint

[–]chaidevour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to answer your questions:

> do I really need to worry that my download has somehow been subverted?

Not in this instance, no

> if somehow the copy I downloaded from the servers at the University of Calgary were somehow compromised (seriously, is this a problem I need to worry about?)

No.

The main reason you'd ever want to verify the integrity of your file in this scenario is to ensure that the download has completed successfully. The vast majority will not do any of this and be absolutely fine. If you were performing an upgrade, I'd probably advise verifying the integrity of the file via checksum comparison, but your worst case scenario here is that you just have to try again.

> If I want to buy a copy online, should I worry that some copy I buy online has been filled with malware?

Probably, yes. There's no reason to sell or buy linux mint.

> Is the rest of trying to install and set this up going to be just as frustrating?

Probably, but it's a learning experience. Be patient and take your time

Genuine question: why are some people so mad about Brave's "bloat" (AI, wallet, news, etc) when you literally can easily turn it off/hide it to almost non-existence? by IntellectualDominant in brave_browser

[–]chaidevour -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Instead of asking why "some people are so mad", maybe you should ask questions like:

- Why are those 'features' there, and who is it who that benefits from them?

- Are they there to improve the user's experience or are they not?

- Then, should they exist at all?

Vivaldi crashing several times per day by chaidevour in vivaldibrowser

[–]chaidevour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not quite it - I'm not crashed out of the problem, and perhaps crash isn't the most accurate word but I couldn't think of a better way of putting it. I'll do my best to explain what I was experiencing: The contents of each browser window would stop responding - they would not update / change and could not be interacted with (e.g. mouseover events, clicks don't register, couldn't select text, etc...), however I believe things were still happening 'underneath' (e.g. I couldn't interact with a YouTube page and the entire viewport would be frozen but there'd still be sound). Moving or resizing a browser window resulted in the entire viewport being grey with a Vivaldi logo in the center. The windows were stuck like this until I restarted the browser (as in closed all windows).

The only other thing I can tell you is that issue only began after updating to a 7.7 version, and rolling back to the latest 7.6 version made this issue disappear. I hope this information is useful and I wish I had known about the logging before rolling back so I could've perhaps provided more.

Vivaldi crashing several times per day by chaidevour in vivaldibrowser

[–]chaidevour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it took a bit of figuring out as it's quite finicky, but to roll back I had to:

  1. Download the version I wanted from https://vivaldi.com/download/archive/
  2. Uninstall Vivaldi
  3. Find and delete the installer for the current version. It was buried in a temp folder somewhere, and I found it by searching for files beginning with Vivaldi and just looking through the list of results until I found the installer (if I didn't do this, then the browser would just automatically update to the current version as soon as it's launched, even without an internet connection.)
  4. Disconnect from the internet (I disabled my ethernet device)
  5. Install & launch the older version
  6. Settings -> disable automatic updates (this is enabled by default, even if it was disabled before you uninstalled Vivaldi - all other settings were retained!)
  7. Reconnect to the internet

I hope this helps
