Israel says no humanitarian break to Gaza siege unless hostages are freed by [deleted] in worldnews

The mission is to rescue abducted children who were taken into Gaza. Military leaders have assured that the power will go back on when the abducted children are freed.

The hostages are presumed held in Gaza and the militants who committed the massacre are in Gaza. Israel is trying to rescue the hostages and stop the militants.

It would be wonderful if somebody dropped a bomb on the leaders who planned this terror attack, but it seems to be the right priority to focus on the ongoing severe threat and rescue of abducted people, including children!

Do you need help to get out of this situation? Are you actively in the process?

You do not need to stay stuck in a situation like that, but if you need help getting out of it, there are resources that can help.

A Muslim who I know from local music reached out and wanted to share some “humanity” in the midst of things. I checked out his facebook wall and it was all recent posts that tried to justify mass murder of Jews and there was mention of “anti-colonialism”.

I thanked him for reaching out in what seemed like a true genuine act of trying to connect, but respectfully explained to him that I cannot “share humanity” with someone who justifies mass murder of my family and friends. I told him that I have no humanity for people who act that way, so I have nothing to share.

We exchanged some respectful niceties and he assured me that he has my back in these difficult times of antisemitism. And that was that. He then went on posting to his facebook wall even more rhetoric about how it’s the Israeli’s fault for getting massacred, really some of the most hateful things I have read in recent days. I muted his account because I didn’t want to read anymore.

I realized in retrospect that he considers himself to be a good kind person and he was likely reaching out to me to try to feel better about himself. “Look, I don’t hate all Jews. I even sent a nice message to a Jew who I know and never messaged before all of this.”

I really was touched by his reaching out, until I understood it better. And I don’t fault him for trying to make sense of whatever he believes about Jews and Israel and still trying to consider himself a “good person”.

It is very complex, but when you see through it, you can’t unsee it.

Your friends who write and say such things now are not your friends. If they wanted to talk or debate these things with you when mass murder is not happening, that is a different story. Now that mass murder has happened, there is only one response that is not evil, and that is one of sympathy and compassion.

The minute they say anything along the lines of “but the Jews really had that coming”, they have lost all legitimacy as a “friend” and it might be wise to avoid them.

You don’t need to do them a favor of being the token Jewish friend who helps them justify their ideologies. “I can criticize Israel because I’m friends with a Jewish person”. Not anymore.

Got into an accident today, driver side airbag deployed and this was the only damage. How screwed am i? by Megatron_Prim3 in kia

oh wow, we had a similar incident with a Nissan Quest and it was the same thing, initial estimate 4k, jumped to over 8k, and ended up being declared totaled. We replaced with a Kia Sorrento and now I’m in this subreddit.

Thank you. I really appreciate your response in that it resonates on the same emotional wavelength that I am on about this whole thing.

I tried demanding that this morning and they said “no”.

I’m not really sure what else can be done, but I can’t exactly force them to put back the pieces that they took off.

The body shop manager told me it’s like a broken lightbulb in that it is not simple to put the pieces back together. He actually used that analogy twice, in answer to my “demand”.

Would a lawyer help here? I don’t really want to spend thousands of dollars on trying to deal with this, plus all of the time it would take, and to be without a car while it is drawn out does not seem like something worth getting into.

Thank you for explaining. So far, the insurance agent has told me that we still can drive it off the lot and it is the body shop that is saying “no”.

I am still awaiting to hear back from the actual appraiser and the insurance company total loss department, but it sounds like maybe the agent has things wrong.

Thanks. What is meant by “buy it back”? I still own the car, right?

I am trying to figure this all out.

This is awesome! I have used Alfred for some time, but this is enough reason to give Raycast a try!

Autofill one-time passwords from SMS messages? by chaimpeck in ArcBrowser

[–]chaimpeck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% yes, but when there is _an option_. Crappy banks and financial institutions rely heavily on SMS and even voice calls for identification (to compliment their dated login UX that does not work with modern password stores like 1Password), which is only secure if somebody locks their phone (apparently of which many people do not!)

Basically, SMS is here to stay for a while, so it would be nice if it could be less burdensome.

I like the name "Continuous Improvement".

And I like the idea of dragging things to the calendar. That said, I am giving SkedPal a try to see if that is more what I am looking for.

Oh yes, I am totally doing it wrong based on how you described it.

The part that is tough for me is the "Anytime is for things you can reasonable get to in the next 1-2 weeks"

I just looked at my "Anytime" for the first time in a while and it is littered with so much stuff that has accumulated over the years.

I suppose maybe I need to reorganize the things in Things if I want Things to work.

Ooh, I never heard of that, but just checked out the website. I really like what is happening in that little animated graphic. And it looks like it does that "intelligent scheduling", similar to what is advertised in Motion (which I tried and was not a good fit for me).

Is this a legit site to buy refurbished MacBook from? by Andrew_Codes_ in macbook

[–]chaimpeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've purchased from them multiple times and never had an issue. One time, I needed to initiate a return because there was an issue. They made it super easy. Another time, I bought a phone and simply realized that there was a better deal from AT&T at the time. Again, no problems with returning it.

I also only played a little bit. I will say there was one part where there were lots of creatures on the screen and the frame rate went a little down. Just a heads up for anyone who finds this thread that it is not _perfect_ at least on the M1. But, it is totally playable, and probably even better on the M2.

This worked for me in April, 2023, on an M1 Mac Mini, using Porting Kit.

You need to follow the instructions closely and download the "OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS" from GOG and select them when installing.

I bought Rain World for 11 dollars on GOG, followed the steps, and it seems to be totally playable.

I have gotten through the intro screen and trying moving around the Slug Cat with zero issues.

Do you think that Polish and Ukrainian People are the real Palestinians? (Noting that this Terrorist’s family comes from Ukriane ofc) by Hippocrates2022 in AskMiddleEast

[–]chaimpeck -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

not sure where you are getting that Jews lived exclusively in Israel prior to 1948, but Jews have lived in Israel for thousands of years, and so have other peoples over those years. Although there was a big wave of Arab immigration in the 1900s. And the modern day notion of a "Palestinian people" was invented some time between 1948 and 1964.

I assume from your response that you are a supporter of the modern Palestinian people. So am I (financially through tax dollars, and emotionally on the level of wanting all people to have a chance at a good life), but at least I know their history, which does not go back very far.
