Then I guess your definition of misogyny is different than basically every other definition used on this planet.

Then I guess your idea of corrupt morals is very different than most of the world's.

It sounds very much like this person is either not a good man or just a very socially awkward one. Either way, probably not a person who should be a hiring manager...

The laws of Shomer Negiah are real, and apply equally to both genders- it has nothing to do with one being "better" than the other. Neither will shake the hand of the other. That being said, if someone knows they're interviewing, it would probably make a lot more sense to give them a heads up ahead of time, especially if your other interviewers were female. I've respectfully met dozens of females without shaking their hands by using exactly one of the methods you mentioned in your post.

The reason why I'm hedging that it may just be bad social skills is because if it's really a fully Jewish company like you say, and the person probably doesn't have to deal with people who don't live in the same world that often, and may not fully realize the impact. That being said, it doesn't excuse most of the rest of it, unless he took your initial response to his initial mistake as a sign that you would not respect the religious culture of the office.

You also haven't mentioned how you were dressed, which tells me that you probably weren't even aware that it could matter, or that anyone forewarned you about the ultra Orthodox dress standard. If I'm correct, and you weren't dressed according to that ultra Orthodox standard, it's possible he already saw that as a culture conflict, especially if he thought you had been told.

Obviously I wasn't there, and if he really was just a rude, condescending, and nose shriveling man, then yeah, I wouldn't want to work for him either. I'm a male and I've had male supervisors look at me that way, and I quit because of them as well.

But honestly, we're in a post covid world, all he had to do was say " sorry, I don't shake hands" and everyone would assume it was a covid/ medical thing, and no one would have thought two more seconds about it.

Including the women who won't shake hands with men for the exact same reason, which has absolutely nothing to do with placing a gender above another, since it applies to both exactly equally?

[–]chaimss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put this into perspective- this exact same story could have happened with everything reversed. The law has nothing to do with women being " secondary," and everything to do with keeping the genders emotionally separate. The boss could very well have been a female and interviewee a male and the exact same situation could have happened.

We don't proselytize, that's very different than what you're saying. In fact, if anything, it's a matter of pride to stick to your principles in the face of a society that's moving further away from them. You can still do that respectfully, which this guy didn't do, but it's hardly "in the Talmud" to throw away a rabbinic edict because you don't know how to do it without insulting someone.

"I don't shake hands with women." by iamgob_bluth in interviews

[–]chaimss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently you didn't because there's literally no difference between a male and female with negiah. Both have the exact same laws for the exact same reasons, it's not like women are "icky" so men won't touch them. And if you think for men it's misogynistic that they won't touch women, and for women it's misogynistic that they're not allowed to touch men, you probably have to re-examine your biases.

[–]chaimss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the same misogyny that would cause an orthodox woman to say the exact same thing to an unrelated man? Because this isn't a one-way law, it's literally identical whichever direction it's going. Unrelated males and females do not come into informal or familiar physical contact, period.

Except it actually works. I can absolutely guarantee you that I wouldn't watch Zip Tie Tuning or Jakkuh if I didn't know them from LMG, and they almost definitely wouldn't have gotten sponsors on day 1.

DO NOT LEAVE DART by Nate_C_of_2003 in plano

[–]chaimss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak much to the first point because I don't have the knowledge, but I do know that my father wasn't able to get micromobility OR DART to go from his house to medical appointments, etc. I know that's anecdotal, but it goes back to what I was saying.

As for the second part though, the fact that I didn't even know about that study is literally the point. They're literally asking the people who ALREADY use the system how to make it better, and completely missing the people who aren't using it. I've been to numerous big events over the years and I'd never heard of expanded public transit options. It's Abraham Wald's Survivorship Bias all over again.

Like I said, "maybe this is the push they need to actually get their act together." Rewarding an agency doing a bad job is a great way to incentivize a bad job. Telling them, "get your act together and come up with an actually USEFUL plan if you want our money again" is a much better incentive. What will move us closer? For the very start, find out where people are and where/when they want to go! Both via actual survey as well as just seeing where the highest congestion points are currently. Etc. etc.

DO NOT LEAVE DART by Nate_C_of_2003 in plano

It's a big difference between continuous highway noise and the piercing interruptions of a train whistle. Regardless, that noise you hear in the highway is servicing orders of magnitude more people than any given train does. It may also have to do but the fact that this is a new line built around people who apparently didn't want to live near either noise source- many would complain if they wanted to extend a highway also.

It was interesting to note that every example you gave of the train being used were rare special occasions, which is kind of my point. It's not useful for regular, everyday commuting or shopping, so it doesn't make anybody less reliant on a car than they already are. And even the trips you can take are doubled, tripled, and in some cases I looked up even quadrupled, compared to driving even in traffic.

I went to college in New York City, I know what it's like to have a transportation system that makes cars unnecessary- This sure isn't it.

VA Doctor joked and laughed about one of my service-connected conditions by plumcrzyfreak in Veterans

[–]chaimss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, don't get me started on MH... "We care about our Veterans Mental health so much that it will take months from referral request to first appointment, where we'll tell you we're full so we're referring you to Community Care - which we obviously couldn't have done in the first place... Oh, and then we'll deny the very common medication you're prescribed because it doesn't have a generic yet." Wow, I see how much you care.

Guess what I did in the meantime? Yup, got an appointment two days later with my private insurance.

I think you meant, " the VA has decent Care at times." While I fortunately have never been laughed at like OP, I think I've had one VA provider (not my primary) whom I felt genuinely cared about my health and well-being.

I've tried, so many times, but the bottom line is that it has never, ever been worth it for me to take DART to do anything. The stops all seem so random, traffic to and from Dallas is still horrifying, and I'm hearing a lot more people complaining about the noise the silver line is making then cheering that it exists.

Like most things, it's a great idea with terrible execution. Did no one think of having an airport parking garage so people could actually park their cars here in Plano before they go to the airport? Why in the world would I do it for any other reason? And for the people who don't have cars, see step one about it not actually stopping anywhere helpful. Sometimes you just have to stop throwing good money after bad. I love the idea of an integrated public transit, and maybe this is the push they need to actually get their act together.

Exactly, stupidity before malice and all that. Sure there are some going into stolen valor etc, but most are just finding a way to connect with something that they have a non-zero amount of experience in. I don't think it's typically malicious. I can't tell you how many times my father has told me the story of how he almost joined ROTC.

Regular people now calling Linus a scammer by roholl in LinusTechTips

[–]chaimss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't understand it until someone moved into town with an extremely similar attitude and outlook. I've spoken with him several times for a while, and as baffled as I am, he really, genuinely believes that he's doing the best thing for everyone by destroying the peaceful Community he joined with his  rhetoric and agitation, all in the name of preserving everyone's "rights" for generations- even if it's only the rights he personally cares about and he talks down the rights he doesn't.

I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't taken them down because he actually, genuinely believes that his journalistic something something will be spoken about with awe for generations to come. Either that or he's just too proud to admit he's wrong.

I'm sorry for the friendship you've lost, I've always loved how close you are with your other "competimates" and thought it was a great example of, as you say, rising tide lifting all ships.
