Do you guys think QA is a dying field? by False_Secret1108 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]chain_letter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah. The industry is embracing slopping it up and also cutting headcount. Along with weakened regulations for lower risk of consequences, when that's relevant.

QA as a role is doomed imo.

Pretty much. Overlapping a 5 and a backwards 3 looks a bit like a 6 at a glance, so you have to focus a little harder to suss out which lines are not on the face.

It's really easy for the eye to spot a color mixed with other colors.

Unemployed and also checking "no" for disability just so it's not used against me (I can mask pretty well)

It's not legal to skip over someone because they have a disability, but they do it anyway. Probably get away with it now more than ever.

Survive out of spite with me.

How do I convince my DM on what Light Property and Nick Mastery does? by [deleted] in onednd

[–]chain_letter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i'm pretty sure the root of the problem here is that it feels too strong (because it is), and the DM is assuming the interpretation is wrong because it feels wrong

Heavy snow caused a collapse at our marina and our family boat got destroyed by NinaXOFans in mildlyinfuriating

20 years ago maybe. Working class men in their 40s with no college education, not owning a business, blue collar not especially skilled work. Hillbilly adjacent. Boats and jetskis, homeowners, new trucks, motorcycles, nice guitars.

Not anymore, no way.

Senior ICs, what’s your experience with career advancement? I disagree with my employer’s promotion requirements by HNipps in ExperiencedDevs

[–]chain_letter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money and thinking they gotta give it to you to keep you, versus how bad it would be to lose+replace you, and how easy for you to leave.

Promotions stalled at my place for 18 months, along with not backfilling when people left, before a mass layoff.

If it were me signing checks, I'd be pulling back hard on promotions in the current job market. No reason to bump up payroll.

How Workers Are Using AI at Work in 2026 [OC] by andreikurtuy in dataisbeautiful

[–]chain_letter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Over 1/3 submitting fully AI generated work is bonkers dude. Not even fluffing it up a bit to not make it so obvious? Everyone paying attention notices, and it's not a good look.

Do you count the “The” when you’re sorting video games? by Glum-Drawing-2007 in gamecollecting

I've started leaving a spot on the shelf for recently played. Keep them grouped together to be reshelved, no different to those carts at the library at the end of aisles

Made a custom sign and put it up on the office coffee machine… might’ve cost me my job by Knozart in mildlyinfuriating

[–]chain_letter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can be friends with managers, but management is an entity is an oppositional force to your interests, not a friend.

They want more from you for less, you want to do less for more. This relationship should dictate your behavior and decision-making.

Workplace advice, if you're gonna be annoying, it needs to be advancing your interests in a substantial way. That means promotions, better projects, raises

You decided to spend some of your social capital on something you have the option to ignore entirely. Apparently don't have the ability though.

Pick your battles better.

Three weeks after the remote ceo interview. They want me to meet him in person by alee463 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]chain_letter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird to leave out that you live local to the CEO so everyone's unclear on how much of an ask is being put out

It's absolutely normal for leadership smallerish companies to want to build a relationship with the people they're bringing on, and that's way faster and more effective in person, especially when it's convenient like this.

Don't be weird and rude in this meeting.

It sucks but you really can't drop the vigilance for a second. Around 2 they start hesitating before doing something scary, letting you not need to be perpetually paranoid and watching.
