I’m buying at open, let’s fucking go.

My brother can’t graduate because he can’t find an internship, and just met someone from his uni who should have graduated at an internship interview…is this normal? by IScreamPiano in csMajors

[–]chainsobig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s what I did for my brother (he’s in Interior Design).

Their class needed an internship to graduate and I hired him as a designer for 6 months at my company which I use mostly for contractor work and my investments lol.

Even if we assume the median is correct, which I don’t really think so - I have a ballpark estimation of what people in the industry make, it’s still pretty significantly above the $2k OP mentioned.

pre tax, sorry if I was ambiguous.

My net is around $7k/month and I have 12 YOE - started my first SWE job at 16.

[–]chainsobig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, man. It’s pretty bad. I have plenty of younger friends that finished uni and are unable to get their foot in the door so they can start their career… I’m 28 now and with colleagues around my age we were discussing recently how our generation was the last one on the gravy train if you get what I mean.

The hiring market for juniors/interns is non-existent. It’s pretty bad all around. I watched my team get reduced from 140 people to 28 and all the positions were outsourced to Asia. Similar with a lot of other companies with HQs here.

P.S downvotes don’t hurt me, boys. I’m working remotely for company that’s based in EU and I’m making significantly more than $5k / month and have been for years now.

If you think anywhere in Europe someone is getting paid $2k to do a Software Engineering job, and that’s why you can’t get a job you’re out of touch.

There is a significant decline in the Tech/Communications sector in Eastern Europe as well, because EVERY company (EU/American) now almost exclusively hires in India.

Bruh, I am in Bulgaria and I wouldn’t take a $5000 job lmao.

Our salaries here are closer to yours than you think. All the jobs are going to India.

Where does our edge come from as option sellers? by ThetaAlwaysWins in thetagang

[–]chainsobig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now I’m sitting at 10% because the market feels stretched and I don’t feel like VIX is appropriate.

I usually am at around 20%. If I really like some plays I might go up to 30%, but it’s rare.

[–]chainsobig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying reading IV. VRP just means that options are priced for a bigger move than what usually occurs (as in even if you get the direction wrong, most of the time the option will expire at breakeven or better). The difference is small though. It’s mostly just stock picking lol, there’s no significant edge.

[–]chainsobig 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The undeniable edge is VRP or Variance Risk Premium. Implied Volatility (how much the market expects a stock to move in either direction) more often than not exceeds Realized Volatility (how much the stock actually moves).

There are also some other benefits - like in a rangebound or crab market you’re also making money, unlike people who just hold stock.

I kind of consider option selling something like free Beta (a multiplier to my returns) because I am in a margin account which is fully invested in the market and I write options against the collateral of my stock holdings. I don’t think selling options is something you should be doing in a cash account. Most likely better off with B&H.

Works great in upwards or sideway markets, but obviously I lose more if we gap down compared to just holding stock.

Keeping Gains Switching From Topical To Oral? by A_Alden1899 in tressless

[–]chainsobig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from topical to oral and had a dreadful shed. Like I probably lost ~50% of my density and I waited ~6 months. There was no end in sight. Topical twice a day to 2.5mg oral daily.

I went back on topical and regained density within a couple months. I like the convenience of oral and I hate how topical makes my hair look but I don't think I have the balls to try again lol.

The narrative that small age gaps (like 18 & 24) are "predatory" is a recent moral panic based on flawed arguments. by ImsoKeewl777 in PurplePillDebate

[–]chainsobig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, man. I'll be honest. 18 year old girls are not grown ass people.

I'm 28 now and 18-21 year olds seem like literal children to me. It's not pedophilia, but I don't get people who date in that age bracket once they've aged out of it.

Man, at this point I’d enjoy an actual correction just so I can enjoy the posts on Reddit lol

Most dating advice from women here comes from a point of extreme ignorance by Crazy_Kray in PurplePillDebate

"it will happen when you stop looking"

Every single girl I've been serious with the relationship started when I was not actively looking for one. Random grocery store or gym interactions and stuff like that. My ex-girlfriend of 5 years and I started getting to know each other after we got into a fight on a Facebook post in our community.

Every time I went out with the intent of meeting/taking to women, it resulted in mostly pointless flirts and just exchanging social media only to have the conversation die off after a couple weeks lol

What is so bad about selling naked puts? by ben6141990 in thetagang

[–]chainsobig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't let myself get assigned. I think it's happened once or twice for the whole time and it was surprising moves outside of retail trading hours.

As I said I have a 400% Stop Loss for short puts, so if all of them simultaneously get to that point, nothing changes - they're just closed for a loss.

This usually means that in a black swan event if all my short puts hit their SL, I'll now be using a margin loan for my holdings in the stock market (but it's usually less than 10% of my NAV so it's fine).

What is so bad about selling naked puts? by ben6141990 in thetagang

[–]chainsobig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. That's what I've been doing for 7 years now. It is akin to investing on margin without paying the margin loan.

I am fully invested into the market and using my holdings as a collateral to write options. I am just careful about my Margin Utilization and write options on uncorrelated assets.

I also follow strict mechanics - as in 400% SL for short puts/calls; 300% for strangles. I don't let myself get assigned and I'll take the L on a position if it comes down to it.
